[QGIS-Developer] Is QGIS on Android?
Hi, For years now, the main page of QGIS website (https://qgis.org) claims: Create, edit, visualise, analyse and publish geospatial information on Windows, Mac, Linux, BSD (Android coming soon) coming soon And looking at the download page ( https://qgis.org/en/site/forusers/download.html), there's an Android section that brings to a version of QGIS in the play store. Unsurprisingly, that version is old and not functional. And unfortunately, there are people trying to download it. Which is not good for the project imho. So is QGIS really on Android? [Qgis-developer] New qgis for android installer
Hi all, So I'm finally back on working on QGIS for android. Currently thanks to the QGIS usergroup Switzerland and norbit.de I'm porting python QGIS to android. So stay tuned on that one. On the side, due to a bug [2] in the latest release of necessitas I created a workaround version of qgis. the problem is that many people install the latest release and miss al the menues. So today I decided to upgrade the qgis installer and added the possibility of seamlessly downloading the nightly builds and to clear the cache to save space on the device. For the moment the nightly build is just the custom workaround package but once the bug is gone I'll restart pushing real nightlies. now I'd like to ask the translators if you can have a shot at updating the installet strings (about 15) you can use github to edit xml and pull request or .po files and pull request or just a plain email to me. here [1] more infos on the translation process for the installer thanks a lot to all Marco [0] http://android.qgis.org/qgis.apk [1] http://hub.qgis.org/wiki/android-qgis/Installer [2] https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=304240 -- Marco Bernasocchi http://opengis.ch ___ Qgis-developer mailing list Qgis-developer@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-developer
[Qgis-developer] Fwd: QGIS for android
Hi All, Finally (for android QGIS) I'm back home. I've spent the last two weeks getting things up and running and updating QGIS for android and its whole infrastructure. Here the news: - pulled QGIS master - updated al code to the newest necessitas version - created an installer that will download qgis for you the installer is ment for the market, since the market seem so have troubles with big apk (althoug I just read that google might have changed that) so when i publish a new version of the installer, the market would notify the user of the available update. At the moment android QGIS is alpha and so it is not on the market. so you will just have to start the instller now and then to se if there is a new version or to get the latest nightly. - new website android.qgis.org (not fancy, but up-to-date) - solved some bugs, discovered others :) - sent pull request to get the android specific stuff accepted into master What works: - postgis (no SSL) - shape files with numeric attributes - spatialite - raster - wfs - wms - C++ plugins (all but Globe and Georeferencer) - most dialogs What doesn't: - postgis over ssl - shapefiles with string attributes - right click - gps tracking (might get founding for that soon) - pinch zooming (zoom works like with a mouse, click=touch - drag and release) - stability issues - python so here it goes to the installer: http://android.qgis.org/qgis.apk Here a Screenshot : http://hub.qgis.org/attachments/download/4087/qgisOnAndroid.jpg ciao Marco -- Marco Bernasocchi www.opengis.ch attachment: qrcode.png___ Qgis-developer mailing list Qgis-developer@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-developer

Marco, I tried installing Qgis-debug.apk on an HTC Thunderbolt (Android 2.3.4) and get "Application not installed" after about a minute of the "Installing" progress bar (which never shows any progress). I have enabled "Unknown sources" on the Settings/Applications screen. Is the app supported under Android 2.3.4? [Qgis-developer] porting QGIS to Android?
Hi all. Android, although not really free, is a very interesting platform for mobile. A range on cheap and reasonably powerful tablets has been announced by various HW vendors, eg http://www.archos.com Is anybody interested in porting QGIS to Android? Does anybody have an idea on how difficult this could be? What are the major issues, apart from resizing the dialogs? It depends on the aim (gps tracker, field editing, etc.) but a mobile gis is far from being a simple scale-down of the software, I would say that it would requires a complete GUI overhaul to fit with the reduced space screen and the limited user input. If you have the opportunity, give a try to Trimble TerraSync, this tool is an ergonomic masterpiece for small screens. ___ Qgis-developer mailing list Qgis-developer@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-developer
Re: [Qgis-developer] porting QGIS to Android?
Hi Paolo, I would personally wait a few months to see how much sucess the Meego platform (http://meego.com/) has. It is a very promising choice for QGIS mobile, since it includes QT as the standard GUI library. It's supports Atom based netbooks and the first tablets are coming... Regards Pirmin P.S: As an Android owner I would naturally support a QGIS port ;-) Am Mittwoch, 1. September 2010, um 19.32:09 schrieb Paolo Cavallini: Hi all.
