These are all fairly straightforward queries to work on, so I am sure
it is just a matter of learning the way the software works. I have been
using this software for about five years and it is one of the best open
source packages I have ever worked with.

It may be more useful for you to sign up to the GIS forum at
stackexchange (gis.stackexchange.com) where the web based format is
easier to work with.

[Qgis-user] NAD27 to NAD83

Hi All;
This question was up not long ago and I have been speaking with Steve King
on it and made some headway but he thought I should repost to the forum. I
am going to try and be more clear; I apologize for not being completely
competition in communications lol.
Here in PEI I have old data and new data I need to map. The working CRS is
EPSG 2954 a 3D realization of NAD83 in a Stereographic Projection for PEI;
PEI Stereographic Projection NAD83 CSRS. In the olden days we used NAD27
but there were 2 realizations of it NAD27 Stereographic Imperial and NAD27
Sterographic Metric. Because the province had definitions of these 2 CRS I
was able to make them easily in QGIS, so I have 2 custom coordinate systems
one NAD27 Imperial and the other Metric. We also have ATS77 Metrics which I
come across every so often but generally have a handle on. There is an old
XP based software used to transform coordinates from NAD27 Imp/Met to
NAD83CSRS but it only works on XP and we have completely removed those
computers from our network; so I have been trying to setup a transformation
in QGIS so that I wont need the older software.

I have a point with xy coordinates in both NAD27 Imp and NAD83 CSRS, what I
am trying to do is make a CRS and Transformation that will display both
coordinates in the same spot in their respective CRS.

So far I managed to get into the software and obtain the GSB file it uses
for the transformation, and apply that to my CRS;
+proj=sterea +lat_0=47.25 +lon_0=-63.0 +k=0.12 +x_0=152400 +y_0=213360
+ellps=clrk66 +units=ft +nadgrids=mar2783.GSB
Which turned out to be the same has;
+proj=sterea +lat_0=47.25 +lon_0=-63.0 +k=0.12 +x_0=152400 +y_0=213360
+ellps=clrk66 +units=ft +nadgrids=NTV2_0.gsb
But the when use it one the same coordinates transformed by the software
they are consistently about 23cm away from each other. We determined that
it is because PROJ4 assumes gridshifts are always from X datum to WGS84,
but NAD83 uses GRS80 so my question is, is there a way around this?
Should I use a NAD27 to WGS84 gridshift and let QGIS reporject it to NAD83
CSRS? Or is QGIS running on the notion that the 2 are coincidental?
Thoughts?

[Qgis-user] Basic Help

I don't know if this is the correct format for asking these questions, so 
please re-direct me as needed.

I am used ArcMap for many years to perform pretty basic stuff, but I am not 
finding QGIS to be as easy of a transition as I had hoped. I am now 
self-employed, doing some part time consulting for a few clients and I do not 
have the budget to buy ESRI products, especially when QGIS has such promise. 

In the past, my normal use of GIS was to pretty focused on being able to 
connect dots from GPS data, digitize features using aerial photography and 
other basemaps. Producing a variety of maps for projects that included exported 
tables of that data to show coordinates, lengths, area or other characteristics.

I downloaded QGIS version 2.14.19-Essen. I am not familiar with programming 
languages, scripts or other behind the scenes stuff. When I have looked at 
tutorials QGIS has, the screens do not match what I see or the process does not 
work as expected. I don't know if I am missing something with the install or 
just need a friendly guide to point the way.

Right now, I specifically need help with four things: add basemaps from 
external sources (aerial, street, usgs quad), calculate/display area of 
polygons in attribute table; add X,Y coordinates of existing points to

Ciao Totò!
Ricordo che l'anno scorso, per Natale, QGIS ha avuto un nuovo logo, molto 
simpatico. Poco tempo dopo qualcuno ha venuto in questa lista con l'annuncio di 
un plugin che cambiava di tanto in tanto il logo. Purtroppo ho perso il plugin 
quando o reinstallato QGIS. Non so nulla sui plugin, ma penso che basti 
inserire in libreria di quel plugin il nuovo logo. Oppure...no?
Farò degli scavi per trovare il nome del plugin e l'autore.

Ciao Gabriela,
non credo sia semplice in quanto sia il logo che lo splashscreen (cosa che
ho provato a personalizzare) non si trovano in nessuna cartella o meglio
occorre modificare la sorgente, cioè ricompilare tutto.

ma lascio la parola ai più esperti.

There are soem simplification parameter, but specific to Rendering I think:
in Options/Rendering

Not sure why this would effect your DATA though...
But it is worth trying to uncheck those?

This isn't geojson either, it is just plain json.

You would need some javascript (or python) to load such object and then
based on the polygon or rectangle create n FeatureCollection/geojson
object from it (check it here: http://geojson.io).
Note that your polygons do not close (last x,y is not first one), and
your rectangles have only the bottom and top corner. So you need some
coding..

If you save that to file you can just load it into QGIS as vectordata.

[Qgis-user] pasted gpx line simplified

I loaded a gpx file (Vector - gps - gps tools - Load gpx file).
I selected the line just loaded, then Edit - Copy features and then Edit
- Paste features - New vector layer (or new memory vector layer).

The pasted line is different from the gpx line, it is a simplified
version of it.

Is this a feature? Is there some parameter to set?

Per me, la scelta del logo e la traduzione, sono due iniziative parimenti
lodevoli e degne di essere supportate. L'una non esclude l'altra e alla
fine, avere un software con un'ottima traduzione e un gruppo di utenti di
questo software che si riconosce sotto un bel logo, mi fa più piacere che
avere un software mal tradotto e un logo brutto. Una era geologica fa, ai
tempi di Gigi Riva e del cagliari che stava per vincere il suo primo ed
unico scudetto, un giornalista televisivo radical chic intellettualoide
alternativo della serie "so tutto io" se ne andò, per conto di mamma RAI,
nell'entroterra sardo ad intervistare un pastore su di uno sperduto monte e
gli disse " ...ma a lei, che sta qui da solo, su queste montagne sperdute,
lontano dalla civiltà, ..che il Cagliare vince lo scudetto ...che cosa
gliene viene?" e il pastore, saggio come un solo un pastore può essere, gli
rispose "...e pperchè, sse lo pperde, cche ccosa mme ne vviene?".

io sono contemporaneamente su qgis 2.18 e 2.99 e la fine è ancora lunga,
tra traduzione di stringhe appena inserite (altre 400 nella 2.99 proprio
due giorni fa), omogeneizzazione tra le due versioni e correzioni di

[Qgis-user] Use a thermal image to identify hot spots automatically. convert to Point

Dear colleagues,


I am working with thermal image raster data, and I would like to isolate
from the total pixels in the image those that form a group of values higher
than the average of their environment.

The basic idea is to identify those groups of pixels with high values,
hotspots, to convert them to points.

 In short, use a thermal image to identify hot spots automatically.

Any suggestions?

contestualmente rilanciare su twitter, FB e liste varie il sondaggio.
quanto al concedere il voto solo agli iscritti alla ML, mi sembra
limitativo, soprattutto da quando abbiamo fatto l'import su nabble e quindi
chiunque "partecipa" in maniera silente alle discussioni.

Hi,

It seems that your data is JSON encoded.
I would suggest to write a very small Javascript (using node, for
example) to convert it from JSON to WKT.

of them have more than one chunk to the polygon. The format is not wkt format 
but is probably convertable.  Is there a way to get these into qgis and do the 
area calculations?

[Qgis-user] Layer definition file - default order bottom of layer list?

Hi

I have noticed that when adding in layer definition files they appear to be 
added to the bottom of the layer list by default in QGIS (using 2.18.13); I am 
wondering if this is for a reason or just how the software currently deals with 
these layers?

Ideally it would be good for these to be drawn at the top or how the other 
layers act (i.e if you have a layer active then the new layer appears above / 
below this).

I am not sure if it is just me or not but I am wondering if this is how the lyr 
files do act?

Però se gli utenti della lista non hanno partecipato a mio avviso va
considerato il parere dei 76 utenti che hanno votato.
Attualmente prevale il logo con pedice...
