Re my just-posted message: never mind. Sorry. I just stumbled across the
answer. I was in SGIS with GRASS. Now I'm in SGIS only.

[Qgis-user] interface

2017-10-28 Per discussione Lerissa Patrick
Hello: I'm a complete newbie. When I launch QGIS, the interface doesn't
look like the ones I see in the help files. My interface has two windows.
The map canvas is one, and the layers window is the other. The
functionality of the buttons is not parallel, either.

Is there another user guide with the two-window interface? Or is there a
way to join the two windows?

Thanks.

Buona sera a tutti,
somministrato sui social: facebook e twitter).
registrato.

Tutto ciò per una serie di motivi:
1. evitiamo di invalidare voti;
2. pubblicizziamo QGIS, la mailing list e quindi il nuovo logo;
3. se il trend è quello ottenuto in questa ML rimarrà tale anche nei social;

saluti

[QGIS-it-user] [Evento] L'Associazione GFOSS.it alla Settimana della Consapevolezza Geografica, Padova 12-18 novembre 2017

2017-10-28 Per discussione skampus
Ciao a tutt@,
GFOSS.it è parte attiva nell'organizzazione.

l'Informazione Geografica Libera-GFOSS.it sono:

[1]
http://www.mastergiscience.it/en_US/2017/10/24/settimana-della-consapevolezza-geografica/

all'indirizzo:

https://github.com/qgis-it/qgis-it.github.io/wiki/QHF-IT2

dell'Associazione Italiana per l'Informazione Geografica Libera;

4) Martedì 14 abbiamo quattro workshop a partecipazione gratuita proposti
da:
- PostGIS a cura di luca lanteri e rocco pispico (arpa piemonte, GFOSS.it),

[Qgis-user] QGIS to Blender - Converter / free global elevation mesh dataset

2017-10-28 Per discussione Michael Nolde

Dear mailing list members,

I'd like to announce 'geoTriMesh', a Python module I wrote to convert
GIS data to the Blender 3D suite. It has full support for donut and
multipolygons as well as coordinate systems. It works by creating a
topological mesh by triangulating coordinate information from the
polygon and merging it with elevation and color raster data. The result
is written to X3D to be imported into Blender (or other 3D modelling
environments). VTK unstructured grids for visulisation in ParaView are
also supported.

It's free (Apache License) and available as Python Module (installable
via pip) as well as QGIS Plugin:

https://github.com/flatpolar

Also, I used the library to create a global elevation mesh dataset
(spherical and flat projection), which can be downloaded here and used
for private or commercial 3D modelling projects (CC-BY license):

http://flatpolar.org/tocomee.html

A detailed description of the dataset is available here:
http://ijsdir.jrc.ec.europa.eu/index.php/ijsdir/article/view/455

I'm happy to receive feedback.

Cheers, Michael

[Qgis-user] Can't delete features of shapefile with pyqgis in QGIS 2.8.6

2017-10-28 Per discussione Javier Sánchez Portero
Hello list.

I can't delete features in a shapefile layer with pyqgis using QGIS
2.8.6-Wien and GDAL 1.11.3. The same code works properly in newer versions.
I haven't found any issue in the tracker or message in the list about it.
Could you confirm if it's a problem with my code or it's a QGIS bug?

The code is below.

Best regards, Javier

from qgis.core import *
from PyQt4.QtCore import QVariant

qgs = QgsApplication([], False)
qgs.initQgis()

fields = QgsFields()
fields.append(QgsField("first", QVariant.Int))
fields.append(QgsField("second", QVariant.String, len=20))

fn = "my_shapes.shp"
writer = QgsVectorFileWriter(fn, "CP1250", fields,
 QGis.WKBPoint, None, "ESRI Shapefile")
del writer

fet = QgsFeature()
fet.setGeometry(QgsGeometry.fromPoint(QgsPoint(10, 10)))
fet.setAttributes([1, "text"])

layer = QgsVectorLayer(fn, 'test', 'ogr')
pr = layer.dataProvider()

pr.addFeatures([fet])
assert layer.featureCount() == 1

to_clean = [f.id() for f in layer.getFeatures()]
assert len(to_clean) == 1

pr.deleteFeatures(to_clean)
assert layer.featureCount() == 0

Confirmed here (also in Master).

Though I do not use them that much, I think the behaviour should be the
same as 'normal' layers which (I think) is:
- add layer above current selected layer
- add layer in layer group if the current is a group (and make that
layer current)

I think it is worth to create an issue for this.

Richard Duivenvoorde

QGIS is for free, but it will cost you sth neverthelless: Time (while
ArcMap costs you money AND time)

In the past, my normal use of GIS was to pretty focused on being able to
connect dots from GPS data, digitize features using aerial photography
and other >basemaps. Producing a variety of maps for projects that
included exported tables of that data to show coordinates, lengths, area
or other characteristics.

I think this is what the majority of QGIS users do as well.

I downloaded QGIS version 2.14.19-Essen. I am not familiar with

QGIS has a very fast development, so resources often can't keep the pace
and get outdated. But as Patrick mentioned, https://gis.stackexchange.com
is good resource to find answers and learn, or even ask own questions
(after proving that you could not find a suitable answer there).

Right now, I specifically need help with four things:

In some parts, QGIS workflows still require the use of plugins.

add basemaps from external sources (aerial, street, usgs quad),
For adding basemaps, install QuickkMapServices (which by default only
ships a few basmaps, so you can extend it through the plugins settings:
Settings/More services -> Get contributed pack)

ArcMap folks tend to think that the ESRI-way is the only valid way to do
things. QGIS does not "pollute" your attribute table with the informations
you are used to have and now ask for, but you can add them quickly.

calculate/display area of polygons in attribute table;
Open attribute table, open field calculator, create new field "area", pick
format/field length/precision.
In the search field to the right, enter "area". The search shows you e.g.
"$area" under "Geometry". Just double-click on $area", it shows up in the
expression field -> OK

add X,Y coordinates of existing points to attribute table;
Do similar with a new x and y field: search for x, double-click $x (and
have a look at all the other functions available) etc etc.

Or even easier:
Click Processing in the Menu bar, Activate the Toolbox, Search for "Add":
Under QGIS geoalgorithms -> Vector table tools, you will find Export/Add
geometry columns.
This will not change your original dataset, but creates a new temporary
copy (which you will have to make permanent later by "Save as...)

search for and add points based on X,Y coordinates.
Right-click somewhere in the Menu bar and activate the "Advanced
digitizing panel"

Make your point layer editable
enable advanced digitizing tools (look at the popup-hints that show when
hovering the symbols. The x and y fields get active.
Enter your coordinates and lock them (with the lock symbol). You get a
cross-hair showing the position.
Digitizing toolbar: add feature. Click somewhere in the canvas, the new
point will be created at the cross-hair position.

Thanks!

Louise

Learn to search and use: Plugins Repository, Field calculator functions,
Processing Toolbox functions!

Did I miss sth?

Here are a few solutions from memory...

· add basemaps from external sources (aerial, street, usgs quad),

o Check out a plugin called Quick Map Services and also once you have that
loaded get the contributors pack that adds lots more sources for maps. Also use
the search function within the plugin

· calculate/display area of polygons in attribute table

o In the attribute table use the field calculator to add a new columns for
ObjArea, and then check out the Geometry expressions $area and area

· add X,Y coordinates of existing points to attribute table

o   same as above but check the expressions $x, x $y, y

· search for and add points based on X,Y coordinates

o cant remember this one at the moment but I think there is a plugin that
makes this easier

There are also lots of great youtube videos for many QGIS functions

personale e nessuna ambizione a risvolti vincenti.

argomento.

All NAD83 CRS inside QGIS have +towgs84=0,0,0,0,0,0,0 , so NAD83 and
WGS84 are treated as identical. You have to build a custom CRS if you
want to apply a NAD83 shift from WGS84.
