Hello Charles,

Thanks for chiming in. No idea what MRF and pyramid-ing rasters are, but I

Many thanks, Garth, for your information. The areas I research include some
large protected areas in West Africa (The one I am working on right now is
15,000 sq km), so some rasters and polygons are humongous (> 2-4GB). I have
three external hard drives (4TB, 2TB, 1TB) plus iCloud, so storage, so far,
is not a problem. If miraculously, Mac Pro's (with AMD) price is slashed by
half (won't' happen), that would be ideal.

Thanks, Maria,

Thanks for your suggestions. Everything you are saying makes sense. The
main problem is that I can't upgrade the RAM of this Macbook Pro. I am
leaning towards a Mac mini with 3.2GHz 6‑core 8th‑generation Intel Core i7,
but let me try what you suggest before investing (removing non-GIS stuff
off the SSD. Part of the problem may be that all the GIS data are in a
non-SSD external drive). And of course, I will wait until the Sept. 15th
event for their announcement about anything new.

[Qgis-user] Mac computer configuration

2020-09-08 Per discussione RMG
 Hello QGIS users on Macs,

I would like advice on purchasing a new Mac. My Mac is 5 years old and
cannot handle heavy-duty QGIS procedures. I process many satellite images
and some vector files with 30 m grids have millions of features, for
example. To process anything is taking too long. I know there has been a
discussion on ARMS hardware, but that seems a few years away. So right now,
what would you recommend? I plan to partition the hard drive to handle
ArcGIS as well. I do not think I can afford a dream machine like Mac Pro,
though. Is a Mac mini something that you guys use and recommend?

Best wishes,

[Qgis-user] Automatically ordering layers & best practice for transferring data

2020-06-16 Per discussione RMG
Hello,

I have a lot of layers that are often similar in names and structures
(e.g., 2018-01-20_daily-path_length, 2018-01-21_daily-path_length,
2018-01-22_daily-path_length ), but not always. Is there a way to
automatically order the layers by alphabetical order, date, etc.? I am not
talking about grouping or sub-grouping. I am looking for a function that
would allow us to sort them by certain specifics (e.g., order by
modification date, order by rasters then vectors).

Second question. What is the best practice for transferring data from one
external hard drive to another? A 2TB drive is full with a lot of Landsat
images and now I would like to transfer the data to a 4TB one. How do I
make sure that I have a smooth workflow without looking for layers within
each project?

Hi Reiko Matsuda Goodwin,
as Luca Congedo already replied to your question on the
Semi-Automatic Classification Plugin Facebook Group, this is only a Python
deprecation warning not related to any problems you encounter when using the
plugin.
It only states that time.clock() function will not work in Python 3.8, but
for now it works as expected.
It is also not related to GDAL.

Anyway the use of time.clock() in the code has already been fixed
https://github.com/semiautomaticgit/SemiAutomaticClassificationPlugin/pull/102
and will not appear with the next version of the Semi-Automatic
Classification Plugin.

Regards.

Andrea

Hello Mac users,

I have been using SCP to do land classification, but with QGIS12.0, I keep

Does QGIS12.0 work with Python3.8? And which version of GDAL does QGIS12.0

[Qgis-user] combining fragmented forests

2020-05-06 Per discussione RMG
Hello,

I have five shapefiles that contain thousands of fragmented forests that I
created from a NDVI raster of a large protected area in West Africa, which
I separated into five panels. Now, how do I stitch thousands of the
fragmented forests at the borders?

Each shapefile's attributes have ID, count (number of units), area, and
perimeter, so I can visually recognize which fragments need stitching, but
because there are so many, I don't think I can do it manually.

Any help would be appreciated.

Best wishes,

[Qgis-user] time in Attribute

2019-10-02 Per discussione RMG
Hello,

I am trying to figure out the duration between one day's survey begin time
(e.g., 7:13:45) and end time (e.g., 9:39:53) in an attribute table of a line
shape file. It has just two attributes begin and end. But $lengh returns an
error message and cannot figure out the duration. I suspect that the fields are
not in proper format. So, I try to update the fields with

to_time("begin")

Then, it says Eval Error: Cannot convert '7:13:45' to Time.

What is a remedy? The “begin” and “end” are in string.

Best wishes,

[Qgis-user] point pattern analysis in West Africa

2018-09-17 Per discussione RMG
Hi,
I have a species localities over four countries in West Africa, mostly
straddling Ghana. I have set the layers' CRS to WGS84 UTM31N. I want to do
point pattern analysis by overlaying a grid system over the species range.
I created a 100 km x 100 km grid layer (MMQGIS), but when I measure each
length of the grid using the measurement tool, it shows up as 1 km. What am
I doing wrong? If I change the project CRS to Clark 1880, the distance unit
correctly shows up, but it measures 180 km. What is the remedy to this
problem?

Thanks for your attention.

[Qgis-user] Map Composer

2016-11-21 Per discussione RMG
Hi,

I am using Nødebo on El Capitan. When I reopen a saved project in which a
map has been composed previously, the map 0 simply refuses to appear,
although when I click on "save the image" it saves the image, but because
it is invisible on the Map composer, editing is difficult. I click on
Update preview, draw map canvas items, set rotate to 0, unlock the layer,
unlock the item, but the map 0 simply won't become visible. The message on
the map area says "Map will be printed here". What is the solution to this
problem?

Thanks for your attention.
