Sorry, I was wrong, the python packages seem to be coming from the backports
(but the same versions are available in the launchpad repo). Maybe that's the
problem - Salvator's packages are even newer.

Please users have a look to the bug list, and check old and possibly
invalid bugs. You do not need to be a developer to do that, and you can
help the project this way.
I had a look, and I found several that are probably gone, eg:
https://trac.osgeo.org/qgis/ticket/83
If people confirm a bug is no longer valid, we can close it and
concentrate on the true problems.
Thanks a lot.

Re: [Qgis-user] qgis & ubuntu

2008-07-10 Thread Giovanni Manghi
If I'm not wrong qgis is out of the ubuntu 8.04 repositories.

You can use the following repository

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/qgis/ubuntu hardy main

as stated in the qgis download page

http://download.qgis.org/downloads.rhtml

for grass 6.3 you can use

http://les-ejk.cz/ubuntu/

Re: [Qgis-user] qgis & ubuntu

2008-07-10 Thread Jaime Paneque-Gálvez
Hi Betina

You can certainly use both GRASS and QGIS on Ubuntu 8.04. To install GRASS you
can either use the Synaptic Manager or use the console and type "sudo apt-get
install grass".

As for installing QGIS, you will have to add the download url line "deb
http://ppa.launchpad.net/qgis/ubuntu hardy main" to /etc/apt/sources.list. and
then run from command line "sudo apt-get install qgis". You can subsequently
install the GRASS plugin so you can use GRASS from QGIS.

Good luck! Regards.

Jaime

[Qgis-user] north arrow and reprojection

2008-07-10 Thread Paolo Cavallini
Hi all.
During a course, we found that activating reprojection on the fly
sometimes causes the north arrow to point to the wrong direction. Once
this happens, there is no obvious way to have it back correct, except
for closing and reopening QGIS. Because I was on a course, I couldn't
test it more accurately.
Does anybody have encountered the same problem?
If so, we should open a bug.
Thanks.

Hi Borys,

could you try to investigate this a bit? I mean to try whether this
behaviour persists with some other PyQt4 / SIP versions or whether it
doesn't change when they're built from source...
I can't replicate this behaviour using ubuntu 8.04 with python-sip4
4.7.3 and python-qt4 4.3.3.

I'm wondering what might be the reason... looks like you're missing
/usr/lib/libXext.so right?
Try to install libxext6 package then and try again to see if it helps.

Same problems here with Debian Lenny and QGIS 0.10 from gfoss.it-repository:
python 2.5.2-1
python-qt4 4.4.2-1
python-sip4 4.7.6-1

QGIS error message:

It seems that the eric4 package in Lenny has similar problems.
eric4 error message:

Hi,

browsing through PyQt mailing list I've found this thread with similar problems:
http://www.riverbankcomputing.com/pipermail/pyqt/2008-May/019482.html

So this really looks like a binary compatibility problem of the
packages: PyQGIS (and other SIP-based bindings like scintilla) have to
be regenerated (i.e. recompiled) after the upgrade. So there are two
possibilities:
1. downgrade to previous package versions of python-sip4 and python-qt4
-or-
2. remove QGIS package from your system and compile it from source -
this might be a bit painful if you've never done it before but there
is a tutorial how to do it:
http://wiki.qgis.org/qgiswiki/BuildingFromSource (chapter 5)

Thanks for your reply ...

In fact lacked libxex-dev!
Now when I try to start qgis gives me the following error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/apps/bin$ ./qgis
qgis: /home/sam/dev/cpp/qgis/src/app/qgisapp.cpp:1192: void
QgisApp::createStatusBar(): Asserzione `!myProjPixmap.isNull()' fallita.
Abortito

Why?

thanks

Hi,

2. remove QGIS package from your system and compile it from source -
this might be a bit painful if you've never done it before but there
is a tutorial how to do it:
http://wiki.qgis.org/qgiswiki/BuildingFromSource (chapter 5)

that should be no problem. Niccolo Rigacci sent me a packaging recipe
[1] yesterday.

Thank you for your information.

Sebastian H.
