[Qgis-user] QGIS trunk on Ubuntu -> segmentation fault

2009-02-09 Thread G. Allegri
I've just updated the source from trunk (rev. 10140) and compiled the
code without errors. Trying to load it I receive (in console):

Python support ENABLED :-)
Segmentation fault

and it crashes... It'not of much help, but does anyone can imagine
what's wrong?

My previous build (rev. 9839) works perfectly

Agreed, 'Item reference point' is much clearer.
It is changed in svn now.

Just a thought: maybe change the "Item Point" to "Item reference point"
or something that makes it clear it's about where the item is/will be
anchored.

2009-02-09 Thread Nikos Alexandris
Yep, it works! Although, I can't imagine that I did not press the "set
position" in my previous test.

1. Select item

2. Position # already filled with values (e.g. x: 3.63564, y: 237.727)

3. Select an Item-Point "box" with the mouse (e.g. center-center) #
values change automatically to x: 24.1356, y: 267.477

4. Select "Set position" # no re-action

5. Set manually some values (e.g. x:20, y:220) # now it works :-)

Thank you for your attention Marco.

Hi!

The following error only occurs if the R (2.7.2) session is started

Hi Nikos

The fields show the current position.
You need to press 'set position' after changing the values. If that does not
work for you: on what platform are you using QGIS?

Hi Nikos

Did you set the items x-/y- position before pressing the 'set item position'
button? Because the tool automatically inserts the current position of the
item (in mm). Therefore pressing the button without setting the position to a
different value does not change anything.

That was it, thanks. Synaptic does not list

issued by the plugin should be more specific.

[Qgis-user] Fresh build of QGIS needed

2009-02-09 Thread Vito Meuli
Hi all!
Marco Hugentobler kindly fixed a bug in QGIS 1.0.0 I needed to be fixed, but
now I'm not able to try it because building QGIS on Windows is beyond my
possibilities.

Is there enough asking for a new build of QGIS in osgeo4w?
Is it already scheduled, so I can simply wait for it?

If not any of the two, may I ask someone to do it for me, giving him/her a
reward for it?

I know it was discussed about knightly builds in the past.
Maybe could my boss sponsorship it?

Thank you for the good work!
Greetings,
Vito

I suppose that's the language you are most familiar with. Otherwise
this is probably not the best choice for QGIS - as you can't reuse stuff
from QGIS.

The PostGIS table manager plugin for instance can provide graphical
previews of PostGIS tables. Most of the features you describe, would
probably be a good extension for that plugin.

And there also is the ogr2ogr converter plugin.

BTW the history/changelog part is also something addressed elsewhere
(PostGIS Historisierung [1]; I don't know if there is a English version
of this) - no plugin yet. Is that the same concept?

Is this going to be a free project? Do you have a link?

Pity it's not in python, as other similar plugins for qgis. This will
make integration with main qgis more difficult, I believe.

[Qgis-user] Swiss Knife. (ogr2ogr GUI and more)

2009-02-09 Thread Peter Bange
Hi There,

I am doing my best to get people in my organization use Q-gis in combination
with a postgres/postgis database. I found out that not many GIS specialists are
familiar with (relational) databases. Some of my collegues use ArcGIS, others
MapInfo. All the data are stored as shape and tab files. To help them get used
to storing (all) their data in a database I developed a tool. I have nick named
it Swiss Knife, you can do a number of different things with it:

- You can store Q-gis projects in the database
- There is a meta-system to store and search information on all the tables you
add or change
- It allows to redirect information from a number of tables to one single table
- It allows you to generate a trigger on tables that will make postgres keep a
log of all changes
- It generates pgSQLcode that will generate a view on this table and its log
that will reconstruct historical situations
- It offers a GUI around ogr2ogr that makes conversion between formats easyer
- When you generate shape files etc. from a postgis table, you can lock the
records exported. This allows integeration of the database with ArcGIS, MapInfo
users etc. (I prefer Qgis, but ...), these records can then be read, but not
changed by others
- When reimporting such shape etc. files again into the database the records
are unlocked for edit by others
- It can transform a simple ascii rasterfile to a table with square polygons
(vectorization)
- There is a tool that helps generating vieuws for use with Qgis (can ensure a
unique key)
- There is a little trick to help adding texts in Qgis easier, it could be
expanded
- You can create copies of GIS tables

The tool is written in REALbasic, I generate executables for Mac and Windows,
did not try it for Linux but that should not be difficult. I have no intention
of making this tool for sale or something, just help to promote Qgis. Anyone
interested ? It is in a beta stage, but it is starting to gain speed ...

It needs some tables to run, I will supply these to anyone who wants them.
There is also a first draft of a user manual.
