I'm not fluent in Windows systems, but it seems that the system locale is set
to
Dutch (or German).

It doesn't matter, you just need to adjust the properties of the desktop icon
and/or the Start menu item as I've described in my first email.

Noticed also by me,
every time you try to classify using an attribute that is "real" and not
"integer", qgis crashes, no matter how simple is the attribute table.

Tested on qgis 1.0.1 and Ubuntu 8.10.

[Qgis-user] Ubuntu version of QGIS - some crashes and bugs

2009-05-07 Thread Ricardo Filipe Soares Garcia da
Hello list

I am running Ubuntu 8.10 and using Qgis from the launchapd repository.
A couple of days ago I updated Qgis to version 1.0.2 as suggested by
my package manager.
I am experiencing some troubles, not present before:

- The symbology options crash Qgis whenever I am using floating point
attributes and graduated symbols. I filled a ticket about this (ticket
#1679) with more information and a test vector file. This is a major
bug for me as it is impairing my visualization process.

- The map composer is utterly slow after I draw the square to put a
map there. What I mean is it takes about 1 minute fo the screen to
refresh. I don't really know if this behaviour was introduced by the
upgrade as I think I hadn't used the printing composer since before
version 1.0. It's just that know I really needed to use it.

Anyone else experiencing this?

These things have a way of happening right before work deadlines don't they? lol

Well I hope someone can help me out and my thanks in advance

No, it won't work, because the en_US is not listed unless it is the present
locale. The only way is with the call parameter.

The list contains just the present locale and all the .ts files. It's a bug of
course and I (or someone faster) will fix it for the 1.2 - the first item
should
be rather the en_US instead of the present locale.

Do you mean a Python plugin? Unfortunately, there is no such possibility yet :(
It's the reason for what Plugin Installer is still unable to do that. The
python
subsystem is going to be refactored or even rewritten. With Martin, we will try
to do it for QGIS 1.2 (Martin, won't we?)

[Qgis-user] Enable, disable, and restart a plugin through QGIS API

2009-05-07 Thread Gmail
Dear QGIS Mailing List,

I was wondering if there were a way to enable, disable, and/or restart a
plugin through the API?

I'm looking into writing a check marked file menu plugin where the user
toggling through uncheck(disable) and check(enable) menu options,
restarts the plugin.

I am not sure if this possible or not but I'm open to suggestions;
however, i think it makes for easier plugin development and usability.

Any advice is greatly appreciated,

There is only one, multilingual version. Unfortunately, you can easily force
any
language BUT English (I'll try to fix it for the qgis 1.2). If you want to
force
English on an operating system set to Dutch, the only way is to call qgis with
parameter --lang=en

So if you calling qgis with desktop or menu shortcut, you need adjust its
properties by changing the command form "qgis" to "qgis --lang=en"

If you want to force any other language supported by QGIS, it's much simpler.
Just go to the menu Extra -> Opties... -> Locale tab, check the "Systeem locale
negeren" and choose the desired language.

With GDAL-1.7.0 you have the option to build VRT files. This VRT works
like a caster catalogue. For building your VRT you can use the
gdalbuildvrt tool delivered by gdal.

+1 here.

Stephen, as a workaround, I use a local wms to load 500+ topographic
maps in QGIS, using the generated index.shp from gdaltindex.

An example map file is like this:

LAYER
NAME 'Topo_Sheet'
STATUS ON
TILEINDEX '/__/toposheets/topo_index.shp'
TILEITEM 'location'
TYPE RASTER
PROCESSING "DITHER=YES"
PROJECTION
  "+proj=longlat +ellps=clrk66 +no_defs"
END
  END

The WMS layer will load only the tiles you need within the QGIS
mapwindow.

Re: [Qgis-user] raster-catalogue-support

2009-05-07 Thread maning sambale
+1 here.

Stephen, as a workaround, I use a local wms to load 500+ topographic
maps in QGIS, using the generated index.shp from gdaltindex.

An example map file is like this:

LAYER
NAME 'Topo_Sheet'
STATUS ON
TILEINDEX '/__/toposheets/topo_index.shp'
TILEITEM 'location'
TYPE RASTER
PROCESSING "DITHER=YES"
PROJECTION
"+proj=longlat +ellps=clrk66 +no_defs"
END
  END

The WMS layer will load only the tiles you need within the QGIS mapwindow.

[Qgis-user] raster-catalogue-support

2009-05-07 Thread Stephan Holl
Hi QGIS-users,

does someone know if QGIS has an option to read raster-catalogues (as
the ones usable for MapServer generated with tileindex)?

If yes, I would be interested how to use.
If not, it does not seem too difficult to create a python-plugin to
support this sort of layers.

TIA

Stephan

Re: [Qgis-user] New "QGIS Case Studies" article series

Very nice article! The So!GIS Layer Metadata database plugin seems to
be a good interface for managing geodata within QGIS. Especially for
non-GIS users. Would Canton of Solothurn be interested in adding this
plugin (or a derivative) to the main QGIS repos?

[Qgis-user] New "QGIS Case Studies" article series

2009-05-07 Thread Otto Dassau
Dear QGIS users,

we would like to announce the first QGIS user story on the qgis website. We hope
this will be the beginning of a series of interesting case studies and that's
why we would like to ask you to join in and write articles for us about your
experience with QGIS in a certain project or as a common application at your
institution, universtity, authority, company, etc.

The first QGIS Case Study about "QGIS in the governmental FOSSGIS stack of the
Canton of Solothurn in Switzerland" was contributed by Horst Düster. Thank you
very much Horst to be the first!

You find the article on the QGIS website under URL:
http://qgis.org/en/community/qgis-case-studies.html

If you also have an interesting story, you would like to contribute, please have
a closer look at http://www.qgis.org/wiki/index.php/QGIS_Case_Studies and write
to the community-team mailing list [1].

We want to keep everything easy, so the stories should follow a simple
structure. We suggest to write about 800 words including one or two screenshots.

Structure:

1. Title
2. Short Introduction with background of the company / institute / authority /
   university (length about 200 words)
3. Story about your project/application and what QGIS is used for (length about
   400 words plus screenshots)
4. Conclusion showing positive experiences/benefits using QGIS (length about 200
   words)

regards,
 Otto
