Please note this way is also better for those users compiling qgis themself
and using nightly builds (e.g. most windows users I know)

I'm also a QGIS translator. What I do to avoid the problem you mention
is start translating as soon as a new release is scheduled. I update my
local qgis_xx.ts file with the current code in trunk at that moment to
have the least string changes as possible and send any advance in
translation to trunk to prevent conflicts. This way, one week after
string freeze is normally enough to complete the task.

Hi!

Well, I know that in the past time there were some really "fast" releases.
Personally I expect a new release after the next Hackfest in Vienna so
theres nearly a month from now on. (But maybe I'm wrong)

All in all it's a good idea to keep up with trunk so there should not
be a lot to translate before a release but I also know that it is very
hard for one person alone.
I surely will discuss the translation problem on the hackfest with the
others and hope to find a good and acceptable solution for everyone.

Anyway thanks a lot for your contribution to the translation and I
hope November will be ok for you (and all other translators too).

regards
Werner

[Qgis-user] translations deadlines...

2009-10-02 Thread Christian Ferreira
Hi all,

Maybe this is my personal problem maybe not... but frequently the
deadline for GUI translations are set to one week prior each new QGIS
release.

The problem is...

Honestly, I can't meet these deadlines sometimes. And I don't know why
is so important for QGIS to be released as fast as possible, and
without giving time for a proper translation and revision (in my
opinion).

I want keep contributing for QGIS GUI translations, but I believe that
we should set enough time (2-3 weeks) since (like many I guess) I work
for this at my free time (night/weekends). And often, the GUI
translations can take several full days of work, making this one week
deadline a bit hard to accomplish.

Also, maybe this list is not the best place to talk about this, but
I'm just subscribing the QGIS-User mailing-list. So, my apologies if
this place is the wrong place for this discussion.

Best regards,
Christian

the version, does anybody know how can I check that? I use win only for
the class...

[Qgis-user] Problems at installing python plugins on 1.3.0 Mimas Windows - Standalone

2009-10-02 Thread Agustin Lobo

On behalf of Antonio Malo,
help appreciated.
(might be a problem with python versions installed by
gvsig and/or arcgis??)

Hi Agus:

I tried everything!!! Even uninstalling GVSIG and Arc GIS!!! Also I
installed and uninstalled QGIS several times and I downloaded a couple
of times the installation file!!!

Here are the answers to your questions:

*Are you following directions from
**http://sites.google.com/site/eospansite/gisbasic2009** ?
*
Yes, I am following exactly the directions

*Are you installing the version that is indicated there?
*
Yes, I intalled the 1.3.0 Mimas Windows - Standalone. I am working with
Windows XP-sp3.

*Does the problem occur at installing the plugin or at running the plugin?*

The problem occurs at the installation of the plug in:

I Install the plug-in (I have exactly the same problem with all of them)
and at the end of installation the program shows me the message: "The
pluigin is broken. Pithon said: no module named pointsamplingtool (this
name obviusly change for each plug-in)".

I assume that the plug in is installed, because at the bottom of the
window that shows me the message, the program suggest me to unistall the
plug in. If I don't uninstall it, the plug in list show this:

Status: invalid
Name: (for example) Point Sampling Tool
Version: ?
Description: This plugin is broken

*If the installation worked, did you restart the program before using
the plugin?*

Then I restart the program and I've got this message in several windows,
one window for one plugin:

Python error

Couldn't load plugin "pointsamplingtool" from ['C:/Archivos de
programa/Quantum GIS Mimas/./python', 'C:/Documents and
Settings/TOÃO/.qgis//python/plugins', 'C:/Archivos de programa/Quantum

(first in the list

I'm having problems and want to make sure that it makes sense testing

I try to explain in plain English, see if it helps:
- proximity: create a map of distance to specific raster values
- near black: convert nearly black or white pixels to exactly black (or white)
- warp: reproject a map to a different coordinate system
- grid: interpolate a raster from values at sample points
- clip: cut out a portion of a larger raster and save it as a new file.

Thanks Paolo.
In 16x16px size they do not look as in original versions, but we will
work on that later.

A few are still missing:
- proximity

- warp
- grid
- clip

This task is for next week :)
Can you help me finding self-explaining names for those icons and use
them later in naming convention:
object

object-action (probably most will follow this type as they are related
to raster images)

It does not have to be in 100% name of GDAL function. Just description
of what the function does. To reuse it in another context. ... hard to
explain, but I hope you get what I mean.
