[Qgis-user] Support the next HackFest

2011-02-21 Thread Paolo Cavallini
Hi all.
The next HackFest is approaching. You support is needed to help the
participation of additional QGIS developers, paying for their food and
travel. This will help making of this occasion yet another very
successful QGIS event. Please consider donating to the project, or
sponsor it. See http://www.qgis.org/en/sponsorship.html or contact me
for details.
All the best.

[Qgis-user] Any news on OSM bug on MAc

2011-02-21 Thread Barend Köbben
Hi all,

Is there any progress on solving the bug that makes OSM plugin useless on
MacOSX? I tried it a couple of months ago, found it crashed all the time
and saw the bug in the Trac:

"Ticket #2996 -(new bug) - Opened 5 months
 ago"

>From then on I had to revert to a version of QGIS on my (virtual) Windows
when working with OSM. That's a bit of a pain, so I just now checked if
any solution was found yet, but the only new comment I saw was:

"Still crashes in Qgis 1.6, OSX 10.6 (python 2.6), OK OSX 10.5 (python
2.5). Bumping to the next version..."

But since I have Python 2.6 on my machine (came with Leopard I guess),
does this mean I'll have to wait until 1.7 :-((

Yours,

As a follow-up, I notice that reverting to 1.5 is not easy either, as it's
disappeared from the QGIS (or KyngChaos) download pages

[Qgis-user] hackfest Lisbon, Hotels

2011-02-21 Thread Giovanni Manghi
Hi all,

Paolo and Giuseppe had already reserved their flights and hotel room.

They will stay here

http://www.ibishotel.com/gb/hotel-2117-ibis-lisboa-saldanha/index.shtml

that is 30 minutes away from the venue by walk or 10/15 by metro.

I suggest everyone that want to come to the hackfest to start thinking
book early their flights and hotels as the hackfest days are near Easter
holidays and many tourist are expected to visit Lisbon.

You can find many good links at the usual page

http://www.qgis.org/wiki/5._QGIS_Hackfest_in_Lisbon_2011

Paolo also told me that a few of you are having problems with flights to
Lisbon. Well, have a look also for flights to Madrid or Barcelona, from
there there are many cheap connection flights with Easyjet or Vueling.
Ryanair also flights from Madrid to Porto, then you can reach Lisbon by
train.

cheers

Hi Giovanni

it would be good if you could pick e.g. one hostel and one hotel for
us which are preferred, so that the number of locations where people
stay is minimized. It is simpler and more pleasant when you can meet
with others in lobby in the morning, have a breakfast and go to the
venue in a group.

[Qgis-user] Problems when opening a QGIS Project file on another computer

2011-02-21 Thread Markus Weidenbach

Dear List,

this is just a brief experience report about a minor (even maybe exotic)
problem I encountered when I tried to open a QGIS Version 1.6 project
file (*.qgs) that I produced within a _QGIS 1.6 OSGeo4W installation_ on
my Desktop (WIN7 64bit) with another _QGIS 1.6 Standalone installation_
on my laptop (XP Prof. 32bit):
The project file includes some 5 different map compositions with SVG
icons that are stored in the C:\OSGeo4W\... path. The location of the
icons is different in the Standalone Version (C:\program files\). So
I got an error when I opened the *.qgs file with the Standalone Version
on my laptop because the SVG icons could not be found anymore
(unfortunately the error message simply says something like: Some Layers
could not be loaded. Do you want to search for the layers manually?" If
you agree an press "yes", nothing happens - well in fact there are not
any layers but some icons missing ...).
I understand the problem with the different installation paths, but it
would be helpful if the user would be informed that the system is not
missing any raster or vector layer but instead the right path to the SVG
icons. Even the project setting "use relative path" cannot help in this
case.
Only after deleting all map compositions in the original project file
within the OSGeo4W installation on my Desktop, I could open it with the
Standalone Version on my laptop.

Regards,

Markus
