[Qgis-user] PostGIS Manager compatibility issue with PostGIS 2.0

2012-05-07 Thread G. Allegri
When attempting to use the PM with a PostGIS 2.0 db I obtain the same error
as in http://hub.qgis.org/issues/5201, caused by the deprecated
postgis_user_stats() call.
The plugin manager doesn't suggest updates to the PM.
I haven't found the tracker for the plugin. Where is it located?

[Qgis-user] R example scripts in QGIS Sextante Toolbox: complains about SAGA

2012-05-07 Thread Agustin Lobo
Whenever I try to use one of the R scripts included as example scripts
in the SEXTANTE

It seems that SAGA is not correctly installed in your system.
Please install it before running SAGA algorithms.

Do I really need SAGA for these scripts or is this an error of the checking?
In any case, I do have SAGA 2.0.7

That is a typo that is already corrected in the SVN version. It really
means that R is not installed (or at least, SEXTANTE cannot find it).
You should make sure that R is available (opening a console and typing
r should work, with no need of additional settings)

i assume that you are using linux, right?

They are just alternative versions, as you said. We are trying to
incorporate all tools into SEXTANTE, consuming algorithms from
external apps, but these might contain algorithms already included in
other apps also linked from SEXTANTE (there are, for instance, many
common elements between GRASS and SAGA)

I hope this does not confuse the user, but all opinions are welcome

+1 for me. Main advantages I see:
- one place to find all
- coherent interface
- the developers can stop thinking to the interface, and concentrate on
algorithms
- commands can be chained, and workflows easily build.
Thanks.

It's ok as far as people are told about it.
A better structure is always welcome, but note that putting too many of
the tools currently organized as menu bars within 1 single vertical
menu will also
become uncomfortable. By now it's fine, as there are relatively few
main subsections

Executing R CMD BATCH in the shell produces nothing on my system (ubuntu
with R including its development packages). Asking for the exit code of the
command with echo $? I get 1 meaning failure.

I guess that this trick was not a good one to test if R is intalled,
since I expected the output to be the same in linux and windows (my
fault for not checking it). Maybe R --version is a best one.

Do I need to have SAGA to run R-Scripts via SEXTANTE?

No, they are independent (although you can combine them in SEXTANTE,
which is one of the most interesting things about it :-)) )

Regarding R, SEXTANTE makes a very easy test to see if it is
installed, just trying to execute it with the CMD BATCH argument
without a batch file and checking the output it gets. It shoud be
something like no input file. Could you try that on your command

[Qgis-user] Unusual application of QGIS

2012-05-07 Thread Gerhardus Geldenhuis
Hi
I was wondering if QGIS could be used in a slightly different way.

I do EMPA ( Electron probe micro-analyzer ) of microscope slides. When it
is in the device I can note down x,y,z co-ordinates when taking a photo or
doing a sample analysis. The problem is when you remove the slide and put
it back in again these previous x,y and z components are now meaningless
because the device that holds the slide is not accurate enough to achieve
the same positioning again. I was thinking that if I had known reference
points on the slide I could geo-reference all pictures and scans I did
for a specific session and then when I have follow up photos and point
analysis data, taken in a separate session, I could geo-reference these
and use QGIS to map out all the photos and pin point analysis as different
layers making it very easy to correlate data. As long as I have the
co-ordinates I should then be able to add any other microscope ( eg.
petrographic images ) data as a separate layer and match it up.

If I could get it working I could also write a plugin that could tell me
co-ordinates of a point on the map based on the new x,y co-ordinates when
I re-insert the microscope slide.
Just in case it is not clear let me explain:
When I insert a slide into the EMPA machine a certain spot will have
co-ordinates of 255,234,40. When I re-insert the slide it might now have
co-ordinates of 100,2000,80. However it is still the same point but because
I am measuring in nano meters small changes can make big differences.

My question is thus, does this sound possible and have anyone else done
something similar? The area being mapped is actually flat and I am not sure
if that would make a difference.

Regards

As a maintainer of PostGIS Manager I would suggest you to move to DB
Manager since I do not intend to maintain PG Manager and remove it
completely in future. DB Manager is a viable replacement.

Thanks Martin.
I've already moved to DB Manager. This was just a note for PG Manager,
being still available through repositories ;)

I cannot replicate the bug...it seems to work for me. Does it happens
with other parameters or just with this one?

That looks like a bug. I will have a look at it. Do the other settings
remain between different sessions, or they are lost as well?

 Thanks

 Hi,

I am trying to change the sextante folder location by changing the path/name
of the Output folder in the Sextante options. However, after closing and
opening QGIS, the Output folder is set back to the default (sextante folder
in the home folder). Anyway to do this differently?

Hi Luca,
in r170 works fine (v.voronoi alg).
Which version(revision) are you using?

[Qgis-user] polylines to single lines

2012-05-07 Thread Piotr Pachół

Hello,
Is it possible in Qgis or in Sextante plugin to convert line layer with
polylines to simple single lines ?

It should work as cad command explode.
If not may be it would be usefull to add new option (checkbox) in
command Multipart to singlepart.

Piotr

you mean to segments with just an end point and a starting point?

That should be easy to do and a good addition to SEXTANTE :-)

This is the only one I encountered so far. But I will test a bit more.
Where is that folder location definition stored? Maybe I can change it
there?
