Re: [Qgis-user] Clipping 60 shape layers
I do this a lot. If both the input and the output arguments to ogr2ogr are directories then it will clip all of the shapes in the source directory and write them to the output directory. In my case I let it create the output directory but it mi9ght work to write to an existing directory. I use linux by the way so I don't know if it works this way on Windows or Mac. So: ogr2ogr -clipsrc mask.shp output source Shapefiles are the default so you don't even need the -f "ESRI Shapefile". [Qgis-user] Unusual application of QGIS
Hi I was wondering if QGIS could be used in a slightly different way. I do EMPA ( Electron probe micro-analyzer ) of microscope slides. When it is in the device I can note down x,y,z co-ordinates when taking a photo or doing a sample analysis. The problem is when you remove the slide and put it back in again these previous x,y and z components are now meaningless because the device that holds the slide is not accurate enough to achieve the same positioning again. I was thinking that if I had known reference points on the slide I could "geo-reference" all pictures and scans I did for a specific session and then when I have follow up photos and point analysis data, taken in a separate session, I could "geo-reference these and use QGIS to map out all the photos and pin point analysis as different layers making it very easy to correlate data. As long as I have the co-ordinates I should then be able to add any other microscope ( eg. petrographic images ) data as a separate layer and match it up. If I could get it working I could also write a plugin that could tell me co-ordinates of a point on the "map" based on the new x,y co-ordinates when I re-insert the microscope slide. Just in case it is not clear let me explain: When I insert a slide into the EMPA machine a certain spot will have co-ordinates of 255,234,40. When I re-insert the slide it might now have co-ordinates of 100,2000,80. However it is still the same point but because I am measuring in nano meters small changes can make big differences. My question is thus, does this sound possible and have anyone else done something similar? The area being mapped is actually flat and I am not sure if that would make a difference. Re: [Qgis-user] R example scripts in QGIS Sextante Toolbox: complains about SAGA
One of the main and nicest characteristics of QGIS is that the core keeps a relatively small (although not that small any more) number of functions that are stable and then the plugins provide a cloud of many (ever growing) tools that are being continuously developed. This could have been a nightmare for users but it's actually close to heaven because upgrading these tools is so fast and easy that actually makes QGIS and excellent arena for the interaction of developers and users. No other GIS software provides such an environment. Therefore, I'm concerned any time important improvements or fixes are relegated "to svn", as this is out of the reach of the regular user. Users do not even know what svn is. If Sextante is going to become an important part of the geoprocessing with qgis, keeping the traditional simplicity and immediateness of installing fixes of qgis plugins should be an important goal. If no other alternative is possible (I hope this is not the case) , maybe all users should learn few svn commands, but in such a case those commands should be in the User's Manual. Many thanks for the new version that you announce. Re: [Qgis-user] R example scripts in QGIS Sextante Toolbox: complains about SAGA
Agustin, They are inmediatly available in the SVN version, but not in a new release, at least not until I manually create one and upload it. This task could be automated, but currently it is not. I will try to have a new version today, since there are already a few interesting changes Regarding R, SEXTANTE makes a very easy test to see if it is installed, just trying to execute it with the "CMD BATCH" argument without a batch file and checking the output it gets. It shoud be something like "no input file". Could you try that on your command line and tell me what you get? Re: [Qgis-user] fTools ans mmqgis in SAGA Toolbox
Also, note that tools can be deactivated in the SEXTANTE config dialog. And if they come from another GIS plugin, that plugin can also be deactivated. So you have the same as in the toolbar, but vertical and, (what is a really great advantage, as Paolo said) with filtering Regards Victor 2012/5/7 Paolo Cavallini : > Il 07/05/2012 11:40, Agustin Lobo ha scritto: >> It's ok as far as people are told about it. >> A better structure is always welcome, but note that putting too many of >> the tools currently organized as menu bars within 1 single vertical >> menu will also >> become uncomfortable. Re: [Qgis-user] fTools ans mmqgis in SAGA Toolbox
It's ok as far as people are told about it. A better structure is always welcome, but note that putting too many of the tools currently organized as menu bars within 1 single vertical menu will also become uncomfortable. By now it's fine, as there are relatively few main subsections within the Sextante Toolbox. Agus 2012/5/7 Victor Olaya : > They are just alternative versions, as you said. Re: [Qgis-user] R example scripts in QGIS Sextante Toolbox: complains about SAGA
Victor, yes, I'm using ubuntu 10.04 as mentioned. And R works. What do regular users have to do in order to get the SVN version? compiling? If this is a python plugin (SEXTANTE Geoprocessing platform for QGIS), should not the bug fixes be immediately available to users by installing the new version of the plugin? Main advantages I see: - one place to find all - coherent interface - the developers can stop thinking to the interface, and concentrate on algorithms - commands can be chained, and workflows easily build. They are just alternative versions, as you said. We are trying to incorporate all tools into SEXTANTE, consuming algorithms from external apps, but these might contain algorithms already included in other apps also linked from SEXTANTE (there are, for instance, many common elements between GRASS and SAGA) I hope this does not confuse the user, but all opinions are welcome Regards victor 2012/5/7 Agustin Lobo : > Hi! > > What's the purpose of having some of the tools provided by mmqgis and > fTools within > the SAGA Toolbox? Re: [Qgis-user] R example scripts in QGIS Sextante Toolbox: complains about SAGA
Agustin That is a typo that is already corrected in the SVN version. It really means that R is not installed (or at least, SEXTANTE cannot find it). You should make sure that R is available (opening a console and typing "r" should work, with no need of additional settings) i assume that you are using linux, right?
