Hi Sergio,

Is there a chance that you could put one of the shp files (or a bit of it) some
where so that we can see what's happening?

[Qgis-user] Invalid geometry

2012-06-21 Thread Sergio A Estay

Hi everybody,

From the last actualization from QGIS 1.7.4 to 1.8.0 all my shp files
have "invalid geometry". For that reason now I can't make intersection
between vector layers. Previous to the actualization everything works
fine (using the same vector files).

Any idea if is this a problem of my personal configuration of the
software or just a bug of the new version??

Thanks

Sergio

Also working for me on Windows Vista with QGIS 1.7.4 installed via OSGeo4W.

Not knowing exactly your source format, I can think of two ways around
this. One is to try saving to SQLite instead, then export to CSV using
the QSpatiaLite plugin or the standalone SpatiaLite-GUI (or spatialite
command line).

But all of this is just GUI wrappers for ogr2ogr, so the other way is
to use ogr2ogr directly. What happens if you do:

ogr2ogr -f "CSV" layer.csv layer.shp (<--or whatever your input layer is?)

[Qgis-user] any ideas how to get data from attribute table out of qgis

2012-06-21 Thread M . E . Dodd
When there are more than 65000 rows in the data? On windowsxp. Have tried
save as .csv but this is still broken, have tried plugins that are supposed to
save in excel format but they don't work with this size of data, have tried
selecting chunks of the attribute table but this does not seem to work either,
can't select range of rows for some reason, not sure if it is the computer
being too slow with this large dataset or if program really won't do
selections. Also tried plugins that are supposed to save the attribute data as
.csv file but they don't save the calculated columns.
Am using qgis 1.9 from last night's build.

I am a very new user to QGIS and have a simple question. Where is the
option to include a north arrow in the print composer?
I am using v. 1.7.4
I have options for scale bar, legend, label etc. but not for north arrow.

Also, anyone have a recommendation for a projection that would give me a
scale bar in miles for a United States vector that includes Hawaii and
Alaska?

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS Master and Rasters to grayscale

2012-06-21 Thread Marco Hugentobler

Ticket filled:

http://hub.qgis.org/issues/5837

Am 21.06.2012 13:02, schrieb James Stott:

There is a sample of this data at:

http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/docs/sample-data/10k-raster-colour-sampl
e-data.zip

If you turn this grayscale in 1.9 it just turns grey (rgb 127,127,127)
all over. In 1.8 if you choose grayscale it displays it with the rgb
values displayed below.

So I created a colormap if anyone is interested. I took the values from
what QGIS 1.8 did automatically to turn the data grayscale.

Value - r ,g ,b
0 = 255,255,255
1 = 0,0,0
2 = 226,226,226
3 = 150,150,150
4 = 218,218,218
5 = 232,232,232
6 = 232,232,232
7 = 230,230,230
8 = 249,249,249
9 = 252,252,252

I have created a qml file if anyone would like it you can download it
from here:

https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B6r5nAOdEBZrRFpjVlBLZm1BSkE

This was quite easy as there were only 10 values defined in the data.

The OS 25000 and 5 rasters have 255 different colours in them.

Hi

I am getting errors trying to use the Time Manager plugin (version 0.6).

I 've got a shape file with events expected to happen in (very) future
years. I have made a text attribute with times like 2034-01-01 00:01:00.000
(only the year part is of interest).

I don't add any End Time or Offset or change any Animation Options in the
"Time Manager settings" window.

The error message:

"C:/Users/map/.qgis/python/plugins\timemanager\timemanagerguicontrol.py",
line 343, in updateTimeExtents

self.dock.horizontalTimeSlider.setMaximum(mktime(timeExtents[1].timetuple()))

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS Master and Rasters to grayscale

2012-06-21 Thread James Stott
There is a sample of this data at:

http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/docs/sample-data/10k-raster-colour-sampl
e-data.zip

If you turn this grayscale in 1.9 it just turns grey (rgb 127,127,127)
all over. In 1.8 if you choose grayscale it displays it with the rgb
values displayed below.

So I created a colormap if anyone is interested. I took the values from
what QGIS 1.8 did automatically to turn the data grayscale.

Value - r ,g ,b
0 = 255,255,255
1 = 0,0,0
2 = 226,226,226
3 = 150,150,150
4 = 218,218,218
5 = 232,232,232
6 = 232,232,232
7 = 230,230,230
8 = 249,249,249
9 = 252,252,252

James

the project *must* be in google mercator and on the fly reprojection
must be active. The Openlayers plugin sets both automatically when you
add a layer from Google/Bing/etc.

Your vector can have any projection, and will be reprojected in the
Google Mercator CRS.

you can reproject on the fly, or use the conversion tool under Raster menu,
unless
you really want to do this in GRASS.

[Qgis-user] GRASS under Qgis: problem using r.proj

2012-06-21 Thread Bis Nulama

I would like to reproject a nasa SRTM 90m Digital Elevation Data (crs 4326) to
crs 3003.
I need square cells and not angular ones.

I create a (working) 4326 location and I load in a mapset the SRTM DEM.
I load the strm dem in the qgis layout.

Then I create a 3003 location with my target mapset.

I open the 4326 location/mapset, I run r.proj from grass map tools (3003 mapset
active)
I do not see any layer in the input mapset list! So I cannot perform the
re-projection!

I am using qgis 1.7.4 on windows XP

Can someone help me?
Thank you
Laura

Re: [Qgis-user] Python-gdal missing

2012-06-21 Thread Luís de Sousa

have version 1.8) QGis starts up without error messages.

Best.

[Qgis-user] Announcing the release of QGIS 1.8

2012-06-21 Thread Tim Sutton
We are very pleased to announce the release of QGIS 1.8.0 'Lisboa'.
This release contains new features and extends the programmatic
interface over QGIS 1.0.x and QGIS 1.7.x

Binary and source code packages are available at:

http://download.qgis.org

If there is not yet a package for your platform on the above page,
please check back regularly as packagers are still pushing out their
work and they will update the download page to reflect the new
packages. Along with the release of QGIS 1.8.0, the QGIS Community
Team is hard at work on an updated QGIS Users' Guide version 1.8.0.
The guide will be available in the near future - we will post
announcements when it is available.

Visual tour of the new release:

You can find a list of highlighted changes and new features listed on
the detailed release announcement available here:

http://qgis.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=149

New features with this release:

browser lets you easily navigate your file system and connection based
(PostGIS, WFS etc.) datasets, preview them and drag and drop items
into the canvas.
- DB Manager - the DB manager is now officially part of QGIS core. You
can drag layers from the QGIS Browser into DB Manager and it will
import your layer into your spatial database. Drag and drop tables
between spatial databases and they will get imported. You can use the
DB Manager to execute SQL queries against your spatial database and
then view the spatial output for queries by adding the results to QGIS
as a query layer.
- Action Tool - now there is a tool on the map tools toolbar that will
allow you to click on a vector feature and execute an action.
- MSSQL Spatial Support - you can now connect to your Microsoft SQL
Server spatial databases using QGIS.
- Customization - allows setting up simplified QGIS interface by
hiding various components of main window and widgets in dialogs.
- New symbol layer types - Line Pattern Fill, Point Pattern fill

- Expression based labelling
- Heatmap tool - a new core plugin has been added for generating
raster heatmaps from point data. You may need to activate this plugin
using the plugin manager.
- GPS Tracking - The GPS live tracking user interface was overhauled
and many fixes and improvements were added to it.
- Menu Re-organisation - The menus were re-organised a little - we now
have separate menus for Vector and Raster and many plugins were
updated to place their menus in the new Vector and Raster top level
menus.
- Offset Curves - a new digitising tool for creating offset curves was added.
- Terrain Analysis Plugin - a new core plugin was added for doing
terrain analysis - and it can make really good looking coloured relief
maps.
- Ellipse renderer - symbollayer to render ellipse shapes (and also
rectangles, triangles, crosses by specifying width and height).
Moreover, the symbol layer allows to set all parameters (width,
height, colors, rotation, outline with) from data fields, in mm or map
units
- New scale selector with predefined scales
- Option to add layers to selected or active group
- Pan To Selected tool

i try to make a twf-file by the -co TWF="YES" option like:

gdal_translate desktop/alt.jpg desktop/neu.jpg -co "TWF=YES"

but get the message:

Warning 6: Driver GTiff does not support TWF creation option
Input file size is 5000, 5000

the same message i get by
gdal_translate desktop/alt.jpg desktop/neu.tif -co "TWF=YES"

what is the correct way to use the -co "TWF=YES" - Option?

I add an obvious note: a jgw file is exactly the same as a tfw, the only
difference is the extension.
