Thanks. But where do I load them, and can I separate/group them from the
other symbols? I just see one big field with a lot of symbols.

Re: [Qgis-user] 1.7.4 "Wroclaw" Vs 1.8.0 "Lisboa" on OSX 10.6.8

2012-10-29 Thread simbamangu
Actually the title of that blog post should probably read "fixing issues
AFTER reinstalling QGIS" ... I seem to have left out that part.

So:
1. Reinstall QGIS - delete the original, and replace with the new version
(which can be either an upgrade or the same one as before);
2. Remove the directories suggested in the blog post.

Using the terminal - after opening it, copy and paste each of the following
lines into the terminal and press enter - these are 'remove' (rm) commands,
that delete the files or groups of files indicated. For example, the first
line removes all the files beginning with "org.qgis." inside the directory
/Users/[USERNAME]/Caches/ - where [USERNAME] is your local name on the
computer.

rm ~/Library/Caches/org.qgis.*
rm ~/Library/Preferences/org.qgis.*
rm ~/Library/Saved\ Application\ State/org.qgis.*
rm -r ~/.qgis/

If you get a "no such file or directory" for some of these, that's OK.

2012-10-29 Thread William Kyngesburye
It looks like that cleanup routine doesn't cover the delete and reinstall of
QGIS itself. This is probably your problem.

It's a known problem that appeared after I packaged QGIS, and I never got it
into the readme: the installer doesn't delete old plugins in the application
(there are a few plugins that were merged into the application in 1.8), and
those old plugins don't agree with the new QGIS.

So, delete QGIS from your Applications folder. Then reinstall QGIS.

Tested it with a csv-file and there is indeed a bug in the server code.
Currently, QGIS server displays csv-files only if the project file is

If you have the chance to use a database (SpatiaLite or Postgis) those
are much preferred over csv files. Performance would be better and
handling would be easier.

I haven't tried it but you should be able to do it using QGIS's builtin OGR
functionality. You would have to create a XML "wrapper" that defines how to
load the CSV file (eg. which columns are x and y).
It's described well at http://gdal.org/ogr/drv_csv.html

Then you would load the XML/VRT file into QGIS instead of the CSV directly.

Hope that makes some sense!

Re: [Qgis-user] Loosing connection to SVG Markers

2012-10-29 Thread Andreas Neumann
Hi,

I am not aware about such path length restrictions.

For the symbol that does not work - did you open the .qgs project file
in a text editor and search for the SVG file? Did you check what path is
stored in the project file?

For production work I recommend to have a central repository of SVG
symbols and use relative paths instead of absolute paths. Relative paths
for SVG symbols are defined as relative to the SVG symbol repository.

If your central repository is at

\\yourserver\qgis\svgsymbols

and you use the path /water/valve_symbol.svg

It will look in your central repository and concatenate the path to

\\yourserver\qgis\svgsymbols\water\valve_symbol.svg

You can define the paths for the central repositories in the global
options (Settings --> Options --> Rendering tab --> bottom of the tab).

Hope this helps,
Andreas

[Qgis-user] Loosing connection to SVG Markers

2012-10-29 Thread magerlin
Are there any restriction on (length/levels of) paths to svg markers in new
symbology?

I am using this SVG marker in a Qgis project:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Quantum GIS
Lisboa\apps\qgis\svg\osm_icon\gpsicons\cam_ang_bl.svg

It starts to work with no problem but it is not saved in the project or in
qml files.

When I reopen the project I have no icon on this layer.

The qml file hold this path: /osm_icon/gpsicons/cam_ang_bl.svg. I assume
that the first part (C:\Program Files (x86)\Quantum GIS
Lisboa\apps\qgis\svg\) should be delivered by Qgis?

But even if I manually ask to load the qml-file nothing happens...

Chosing another svg marker like:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Quantum GIS
Lisboa\apps\qgis\svg\transport\transport_aerodrome.svg
works without problems?

Moving cam_ang_bl.svg to the above folder makes this svg work too...

Does the path "C:\Program Files (x86)\Quantum GIS
Lisboa\apps\qgis\svg\osm_icon\gpsicons\" perhaps contain to many subfolders?

Thanks for looking.

In QGIS I open up the Custom CRS definition dialog

Copy and paste a proj4 parameter line starting with +proj=  into the
Paremeters box

Copy and paste the Name into the name box.

Hit the little folder icon.

Nothing happens.  The number below the parameter line doesn't increment.

Hit OK and the custom CRS isn't added to the database.  Could my database
be unavailable somehow?

If I take a known, valid proj4 parameter line that QGIS has in it's
database, it it won't add it either (I miswrote this below)

I played around some more, and the test dialog WILL accept the custom
parameter lines, and does say they are valid, I just can't get my database
to recognize them.

I remember the database dialog box when I first installed QGIS, I think I
just took the defaults, in the DB manager it shows a SpatialLite entry,
but there's a flashing alert in the bottom of the window that says
"postgis No module named psycopg2"

If I highlight 'SpatialLite" and click the SQL window icon, I get an error
that says 'no database selected or you are not connected to it'.  I'm not
sure I have the necessary SQL programs installed.  in Synaptic I have some
sql packages, client libraries, shared libraries, python extensions.  Do I
need a specific core SQL package to get the database in QGIS to be
accessible?

In synaptic I tried to install python-psycopg2 and I got a warning that it
could not be authenticated and malicious control etc etc etc,  should I
install it anyway?

thanks,

Janet

[Qgis-user] TEXT ANNOTATIONS

2012-10-29 Thread Bis Nulama

Hello, is there a way to save the "text annotations" on a layer (to switch them
on and off) or to create text annotations in a layout?

I do not like to delete text annotations every time I don't want to print them!

thanks

Hi Ben,

You can right-click on the menubar or the toolbar and choose what you
want to display.

This is most certainly because you ran qgis as root using sudo or su.
Delete you .qgis folder (or change owner of all the files) and run
qgis again.

2012-10-29 Thread simbamangu
I have experienced the same thing between versions – for best results:
*  Do a clean install
  ;
* Reinstall all the latest frameworks from Kyngchaos.

Some weirdness with plugins has been fixed from time to time with
reinstalling the frameworks, too.

It is quite likely that you have some leftover from the previous
packages. Please clean it up.
