I like #50 but with slight modification, a globe inside the Q would be
good. The globe designed from #315 is nice to be put inside the Q in
#50.

missing from the sample data downloaded from the reference on page

Where can I find it?

I'm trying to sort descending a table added to the layout.

First I added the table in ascending order... no problem, just 5 rows (lowest

Then I added the same table in descending order ... problems..
The 'descending' sorted table does not show the highest values, it just put in

[Qgis-user] problem with --snapshot option in 1.8

2013-04-19 Thread Jason Paul Joines
I'm using Quantum GIS 1.8.0-Lisboa on Kubuntu 12.04.2. I've just
started working through the User Guide and am at the --snapshot explanation.

I had a session up and running with the landcover.img and lakes.gml
files loaded from sample data, then tried "qgis --snapshot
snapshot000.png" from a separate terminal window which fired up a new
QGIS session and made a PNG of an empty white background.

Then I saved my project, closed QGIS and tried "qgis --project
userguide.qgs --snapshot snapshot001.png". That resulted in less than a
second of my project being displayed followed by a white background
session and the mouse pointer spinning around in waiting mode. After
several minutes, I killed the session and tried again. It hangs each time.

Then I opened my project interactively again and used the File -->
Save as Image... to create the snapshot which worked just fine.

I thought displaying Tool Tips at startup might be causing the
problems so I disabled that but no luck. Then I disabled showing the
logo with "qgis --nologo --project userguide.qgs --snapshot
snapshot001.png" but the session still hangs each time without creating
a snapshot until I kill it.

Any ideas?

Re: [Qgis-user] Lizmap for publishing QGIS maps on the web - new version 2.8.0

2013-04-19 Thread kimaidou
Hi Mirko

Do not forget Lizmap is webmapping, which is completely different from
desktop environnement.
If you ask 10 tiles per layer (depending on your screen size) for 20
layers, you will launch 200 request at a time.

You can improve perfs with many ways :
* Use the "group as layer" option to transform a group of qgis layers in
one signel layer in Lizmap
* Use the "single tile" option if you do not use Caching.
* Simplify your symbology and simplify complexe geometries for big scales
* Optimize your raster : use compression and pyramids !
* Use server and/or client cache (only if you do not use "Single tile")
* configure your server : Apache and fcgi. You must normally have several
apache threads and qgis server threads running
* etc.

Happy lizmaping !

If I use the "select feature" it only select the top feature. Is there a

My workaround is using the rectangle selection tool to select all overlaid

features and the attribute table to select the ones I want o delete.

Or put this 'sub-project'-string over the full length and put GIS in

I think in general we should consider dropping the use of the Quantum

Agreed very much!

And what does this designer think about using it as a desktop icon of

Re: [Qgis-user] csv point file to dxf

2013-04-19 Thread Paul Lens

Hi Paul,

To be complete: the ogr2ogr, is the command used by QGIS.

I just tried saving a 3D point shapefile to dxf using the layer "Save
As" command.

The resulting dxf is perfectly 3D.

So, 3D point shapefiles seem to be very well managed in QGIS, at least
for the "save as" command.

Hi,

I do'nt know about converting a 3D csv to a shapefile.

About converting shp to dxf 3D, I see in my notes that ogr2ogr can
export Z values to a dxf file.

It works fine for points.
For polylines, it just saves one Z value per polyline, thus for the
whole polyline not per vertex.

gvSig is able to save polylines to dxf with Z values per vertex.
I do not know how the grass command "v.out.dxf" exports 3D shapefiles.

Hope this helps,

Paul

Hi All

Can anyone advise on a way to import an 'x,y,z' csv point file and
then export those points to a dxf retaining the elevation (z) data?

I've seen several comments on the web saying that QGIS doesn't export
vector elevation data, but then I discovered that the following
*does* work: start with a 3d dxf (e.g. points that have x,y,z
coordinates), import, save as a shapefile, re-import that shapefile
and re-export as a new dxf. The resulting dxf still has the z data.

This demonstrates that QGIS has the ability to create and read a 2.5D
shapefile, and also read and create a 3d dxf, I just can't seem to
achieve this when starting with a simple csv file.

Any ideas?

Ey - thats unfair ..
267 was not there when I did my vote - it would definitely go into my list

Re: [Qgis-user] csv point file to dxf

2013-04-19 Thread Paul Lens

I've seen several comments on the web saying that QGIS doesn't export
vector elevation data, but then I discovered that the following *does*
work: start with a 3d dxf (e.g. points that have x,y,z coordinates),
import, save as a shapefile, re-import that shapefile and re-export as
a new dxf. The resulting dxf still has the z data.

This demonstrates that QGIS has the ability to create and read a 2.5D
shapefile, and also read and create a 3d dxf, I just can't seem to
achieve this when starting with a simple csv file.

Any ideas?
