I don't know about OSX, but on Linux GRASS GIS 7.0 is not yet supported in QGIS
(grass-gdal plugin is not yet working I believe). Try if a vector layer in
GRASS 6.4 works.

Alister,

In Chrome there is a popup when you hover over each start with 1 being the
lowest and 5 the highest. 0 does in indeed mean you don't want to rate.
There really should be a impartial result so that you can say you are on
the fence. Such as life.

Just in case anyone was wondering, 5 means that you really like it, not that
you really don't like it (the system here strips out some content on those
pages, so I guess maybe everyone else can see some sort of explanation of that,
but I can't).
And if your browser gives you a choice of 0-5 rather than 1-5, it looks like 0

[Qgis-user] How to run SEXTANTE algorithms outside of QGIS Python console?

Hello,

I would like to make calls to GRASS and other packages available via
SEXTANTE. How can I do that?

I found this post which is very close to answering the question:

http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/28701/how-to-run-sextante-algorithms-outside-of-qgis-python-console/60725#60725

However when I try calling sextante.runalg I get an error seemingly
related the fact that the code is not being run inside the QGIS Python
console (qgis.utils.iface is None).

Our software (naturalcapitalproject.org) is developed on Linux but
packaged for Windows.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Hi, One of my most frequent needs is to visually identify and select groups of
vector objects and assign attribute values to these groups. Here's my typical
work flow... 1. Select multiple items (point and click multiple, polygon,

existing field." Enter the value and apply. 5. Close the attribute layer (if I
don't take this step, I spend lots of time waiting on the attribute table's
display to update with my new attribute values). 6. Save the layer 7. Return to
step 1 I could save myself a good bit of time if there was a direct shortcut to
the field calculator from the main qgis display. The only reason that I'm
opening the attribute table now is to reveal the shortcut to the field

[Qgis-user] Address Database connection/Search

Hi

I am wondering if anyone can help me with the following. We have our

1)As a Vector dataset - I have no geometry column, but each address

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS and Oracle native connection

2013-05-14 Thread Jonathan Moules
Hi Jürgen,
I've updated to the newest nightly build (1.9.0-19 - yesterday) and note it
has a couple of fixes. Its also faster, in part because its not listing the
recycling tables now.
We have 551 rows in our all_sdo_geom_metadata table - seems we've had a
clean-up.

Can you work out which queries take particularly long (I added some
> progress messages recently)?

I'm now using "only look in meta data table", "use estimated table
metadata" and "only existing geometry types" as my defaults.

In the bottom left there's something that says "Scanning column ... " and
then shows the column. The speed this cycles through tables seems to vary -
it goes blur-fast if I've just done it a minute ago (despite restarting
QGIS), so I guess in those cases Oracle caches - it only takes < 5 seconds.
But if I do it for the first time, some of them take a significant time,
though it doesn't seem to be entirely related to their size (the vast
majority of the tables are only in the thousands of rows or smaller - the
millions are the exception (probably 5)).

You can "stop" the detection and then pick what's already there.

I completely missed the fact that "connect" turns into stop. Even took me a
minute after reading your email to find it.

Do you have numeric primary keys? Otherwise QGIS must build a map that

> numeric keys to the primary keys (or ROWID if there isn't any primary key)

> the client side.

Yes and no. Each table has a column with a unique number that is set by
ArcSDE to be unique and not-nullable, but its not set as a primary key in
Oracle. MapInfo and ArcSDE use this column as their index (MapInfo because
its called MI_PRINX, and ArcSDE because we tell it to when we register the
table).
I don't know how normal this setup is, but the only other thing that's ever
hinted at wanting an explicit primary key is GeoServer, and then only as a
"WARN" event in the logs.

A thought - if it can't find a primary key, how about testing to see if
there's a column called MI_PRINX? Anywhere with MapInfo will have it.

Sorry. We are using QGIS Server 1.8. I've had a look in the .qgs file. Here
is the section about the grid:

Hi!
You can use the OSM Plugin to download the data in the area of your
interest and style your map as you like instead of just using the "overlay"
of openlayers ..
Open Layers Plugin is delivering OSM Map "as is" as a Raster"file" .. there
is rather no way to change that ..

hope this helps

Re: [Qgis-user] Displaying Text from OS Mastermap

2013-05-14 Thread Steven Campbell
Hi Jonathan

Thanks for that. I found a work-around. I used a formula to grab the
first X and Y from the multilinestring to create specific x and y
columns, identifying the location for my text. Using this, along with
the orientation column, I can now display my font singularly, but it is
still part of my SQL database (i.e. - I haven't had to split out points,
lines and polygons from my database).

Hi Steve,

Just a guess, but I'd imagine its the multilineStrings.

The loader I use (an FME workbench) converts the text into a line, one
correctly oriented and anchored for each point that was in the original
dataset.

As you can see from my styles and the screenshot -
http://hub.qgis.org/wiki/quantum-gis/OS_Styles - QGIS didn't have an
issue with this.

Someone with better knowledge of QGIS labelling may be able to advise,
but the other aspect is to try and load your data so its only a regular
line.

multilinestrings for my text, but I don't know if that explains or not
why I am getting duplicate text labels even though there is only one

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jan

1. The QGIS Server apparently does not load images in print templates
relative to the location of the .qgs-file, but relative to the location of
the cgi-bin-executable. So we have to put our images in a subfolder of
cgi-bin.

This is a bug (also in current developer version).

2. Is there a fix for this: When we define a grid in QGIS Desktop, nothing
is shown in the pdf (or, if labelling is active, sometimes, only one lonely
zero below the map). There is no grid.

Try a newer version.

Hi,

I always create (and test) my web projects on a Linux machine set up the
same way as my server, thus I can define absolute paths to my images and
svgs. You could open your project in the editor and manually replace the
path to the image files. I always do this to change my database connection.
No idea about the grid, though. Maybe you want to setup a test machine
an try latest master.

over to the unix server.

Sorry. We are using QGIS Server 1.8. I've had a look in the .qgs file. Here is
the section about the grid:

It would be good to know, which version of QGIS Server you are using.
There was a bug in 1.8 concerning decimal delimiters (comma versus dot),
see [1]

Can you work out which queries take particularly long (I added some progress
messages recently)?

Well, QGIS needs to know which geometry types are present. And that might take
long to determine. It might be possible to do that lazy - ie. on demand
(introduce another level to the tree where the types in the geometry column
are.

You can "stop" the detection and then pick what's already there.

Do you have numeric primary keys? Otherwise QGIS must build a map that assigns
numeric keys to the primary keys (or ROWID if there isn't any primary key) on
the client side.

Vote on the second if your are only going to vote once. The second one
has the picks from the first. The green background ones in the first
have low votes so they are removed.

Should we be voting on both polls then? How does that work with the
logos which are on both polls?

Remember everyone you are also voting for something that should look good as a
icon, not just a logo.

There are now two polls:

http://99designs.com.au/logo-design/contests/qgis-needs-logo-210397/poll/aqu952

http://99designs.com.au/logo-design/contests/qgis-needs-logo-210397/poll/ls2bf1

I have to run the second poll in order even out the playing field as I missed
some of Larry's in the pick and the ones I did where not a fair comparison. As
I can't not close a poll (I have requested it from the company but not word
yet), or edit a poll (which is really dumb and makes this harder for me) I have
to run two.

Regards,
Nathan

Any reason we're not opening this vote to the whole user list?
