Hi all, 

Thanks for the help, however I have discovered a most simple solution, I think 
it may have been something to do with file permissions where I was saving the 
output, I changed this and the problem went away.

I'm not sure, but don't you have to transform your shape to a raster constant 
values before use it as a mask?

Have you tried to  reproject again the data  in the same CRS,
Raster->Projections->Warp or/and save as Geotif? (I don't understand are
you using Raster->Extraction->Clipper?)

The composer map view already support alpha for background colour in 2.0

Alpha in the main QGIS map window background colour isn't supported yet.

Unfortunately this is not possible. I could use this as well, making it 
possible to put two map-items on top of each other in a composer.


Currently, in the options dialog, the "select color" (yellow) has a 
color-dialog containing the alpha channel. The "background color" has a 
dialog without it.
