Hi Bob,
could you please check that this is correctly documented in the new
manual?
Thanks.

[Qgis-user] OpenLayer plugin problem under PC named with Latin/special characters

2013-08-06 Thread Milton Ribeiro
Dear all,

Every computer that I tried to install OpenLayer plugin in which the
computer´s name uses special characters like á è ã ç etc I got error. As
many times one put its own name on the computers like JOÃO, TIÃO, JOSÉ,
OpenLayer not work properly. I observed that this happens because
Python-Qgis communication change Ã É etc for other strings, so the right
path can´t be found.
Any tips of how bypass this without format the windows and rename the
machine?

Best wishes

Re: [Qgis-user] WMTS

2013-08-06 Thread Bruce, Bob (CWS)
Thanks everyone for your input on this. The solution for this is to add the
strings &SERVICE=WMTS&REQUEST=GetCapabilites to the URL for the WMTS.

This seems to 'tell' QGIS to use WMTS instead of WMS.

This only worked for me in the latest master (1.9.0-354) version of QGIS.

Andreas,

I have a WMTS connection to try:

http://nis.cubewerx.com/cubewerx/cubeserv?CONFIG=OIM_MB_-_Orthophoto-WMTS

this is an OGC compliant WMTS server.

(the GetCapabilities request is at:
http://nis.cubewerx.com/cubewerx/cubeserv?CONFIG=OIM_MB_-_Orthophoto-WMTS&SERVICE=WMTS&REQUEST=GetCapabilities
 )

this is part of our NIS pilot project and will be available for another 3
months.

Unfortunately I have not been able to get this to work with either the stable
version of QGIS 1.8.0 or the current development version of 1.9.

I am able to get this WMTS server to work with OpenLayers though through a web
page that I have created.

Do you know how QGIS detects that this is a WMTS connection since we are using
the WMS connection dialog? I am seeing error messages that keep saying that a
WMS connection could not be established, is that because the error message is
currently not specific to the type of connection (WMS or WMTS) or because it
didn't try and make a WMTS connection?

Thanks,
Bob Bruce

 Hi Jonathan,

Perhaps it would make sense to go the extra mile and either test another
Geoserver WMTS or make your WMTS server publically available (at least in a
password protected manner) - so that people can test it.

Although WMTS is standardized there are often minor issues that prevent
particular implementations from working. I know that WMTS is working in
general. I was able to test it against an Intergraph-based WMTS server - but I
do not have a Geoserver instance at hand.

Re: [Qgis-user] Problems installing nightly build on Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)

2013-08-06 Thread Ramon Andiñach
Hi Julian,

This is almost certianly because the new musater is using some updated
dependencies, as of mid april (see lower on the dakatocarto page in the
changelog section). If you go to Kyngchaos.com and download and isntall the
GDAL complete 1.10 package it should start working.

There may be a few other bits, e.g. if you're an ecw user, I don't think the
ecw add-on to gdal is included in the complete package.

Re: [Qgis-user] Problems installing nightly build on Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)

2013-08-06 Thread Larry Shaffer
Hi,

I had no issues doing a fresh install of the latest nightly on Mac 10.7.5.
QGIS had never been installed on that Mac before. Make sure you have the
latest Kyngchaos.com frameworks installed (minimum for QGIS):

GSL_Framework-1.15-2.dmg
GDAL_Complete-1.10_2013-07-19.dmg

If you want to use the GRASS tools inside QGIS (still uses
GDAL_Complete-1.9):

GDAL_Complete-1.9_2013-03-01.dmg
FreeType_Framework-2.4.10-1.dmg
cairo_Framework-1.12.2-1.dmg
PIL-1.1.7-4.dmg
GRASS-6.4.2-5-Snow.dmg

GDAL_Complete-1.9 and 1.10 can be installed side-by-side without issue.

If you still get an error please post details.

If the dialog, noted by Julian, pops up again, please click the Show
Details button and send the results to me directly (or link to a cleaned
version here). Contacting me directly is the best means for addressing an
issue with the nightly build(s), since I manage them and the Macs they are
built on.

I will test the builds on the machines today and see if I can reproduce the
issue.

Sergio, QGIS for OS X is not at all orphaned. In fact, it has had lots of
active development for the platform in the past 1.5 years. It just so
happens that the current development cycle, 1.8 -> 2.0, is taking longer
than previous version updates.

Concerning your reported issues, it may be that your issues are difficult
to fix, or maybe not even related to the Mac build. If you note which
issues you are referring to, I can give you an opinion on maybe why they
have not been addressed yet.

In that window that appears, click the show details (but don't send to Apple
after that). There should be lots of details there, but just the part before
the Binary Images section shouldbe enough to figure out the problem.

I updated GDAL and the other dependencies (using KyngChaos repo) but the issue
is still there...

[Qgis-user] Problems installing nightly build on Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)

2013-08-06 Thread Sergio Zárate
Hi all,

had same problem today in Mountain Lion. Seems to be a GDAL issue. Will try
to update GDAL an see if it solves the problem.

I have noticed that OS X Qgis has been somewhat orphaned. In the past few
months I have asked for solutions to problems but did not get any answers
(had issues with Print Composer not displaying/printing GRASS rasters in
Master).

Looking forward to the release of Master.

Re: [Qgis-user] combine field calculator functions

2013-08-06 Thread Alexandre Neto
Hello Michael,

If all you want is to be able to display 6 categories with diferent colors,
isn't rule-based symbology an option for you? You can agregate several
values in each category using simple operators, and this way you don't even
need to create a new column in your data.

Hope it helps,

Alexandre Neto

Re: [Qgis-user] combine field calculator functions

2013-08-06 Thread Carlos Cerdán
Hi Michael:

You can try Calc, from the LibreOffice suite. In this case it's a powerful
free software tool to open many kinds of formats, such *. DBF without
issues.

There are installers for Mac OS also in http://www.libreoffice.org . Try
it! perhaps you find it very useful.

Re: [Qgis-user] combine field calculator functions

2013-08-06 Thread Michael Giebels

Hi Carlos,

thanks for your input. I tried this before. However I am not able to
open *.dbf tables in Excel. It appears not to be readable in a suitable
form (Yes, I do go the way over right click, show all files, open, and
define seperators etc.). Somehow Excel does not read the row break
properly (when I try to import the pure data without the header it tries
to show all data in the first row and aborts due to limited number of
columns in Excel). I tried different file origins (MacIntosh, Windows,
DOS) as well. In a German forum I found information that Microsoft does
not support *.dbf files anymore for Excel 2010 or higher which might
explain that issue.

Btw: I am running QGIS 1.8 on a Mac OS X Version 10.7.5 (whom ever this
information helps) with MS Excel for Mac2011 Version 14.3.6 on it.

I mentioned it before to Nathan already. All I want to do in the end is
to convert six categories so I can display them in differing colors
without creating new layers. But that is the way I have to do it in the
end I guess.

Thanks for your replies and thanks for having me in the community

Michael

Hey Micheal,

This is currently not possible. If you are running QGIS 1.9 you
do have the ability to define your own functions using Python
example here
https://github.com/NathanW2/qgsexpressionsplus/blob/master/functions.py
however
if you are new to Python and QGIS this isn't something I would do
right away.

What I can do with my mediocre knowledge is to query
information from column 1 by setting

"column1"='abc'

which gives me a binary result (0,1) in my resulting column.
Then I can

replace ("newcolumn",'1','6')

How could I combine these two into one working function (i.e.
there MUST be a simple expression in the function list) and do
not lose the new number when querying another information

Thanks in advance!

This is currently not possible. If you are running QGIS 1.9 you do have
the ability to define your own functions using Python example here
https://github.com/NathanW2/qgsexpressionsplus/blob/master/functions.py however
if you are new to Python and QGIS this isn't something I would do right
away.

[Qgis-user] combine field calculator functions

2013-08-06 Thread Michael Giebels

Hello QGIS users,

the QGIS world is new to me, so please be gentle...

I am wondering how I could combine field calculator functions in order
to convert information from an existing data column into a new one.
What I can do with my mediocre knowledge is to query information from
column 1 by setting

"column1"='abc'

which gives me a binary result (0,1) in my resulting column. Then I can

replace ("newcolumn",'1','6')

How could I combine these two into one working function (i.e. there MUST
be a simple expression in the function list) and do not lose the new
number when querying another information (e.g. 'cba') from column 1?

Thanks in advance!

Michael

Hey Steven,

They are stored in the project file itself. Just XML, open and have a
look.

Hi Alexandre

Thanks for your answer, but it doesnt quite answer what Im after.
Basically Im trying to find the folder location where the print composer
projects are being stored. When you create a new Print Composer, it asks
you for a name and then when you save it, it does so but I dont know
where! Im trying to find out where QGIS saves these print composer
projects.

Thanks

Steve

Hello Steve,

I'm Not sure if I understood your question... but here it goes.

Print composer "projects\layouts" are saved inside your QGIS Project
(*.QGS) file.

On the other hand, you can save a Print Composer as a Model (to use in
other projects), but in that case you will be asked for a saving
location. The same will happen if you decide to save\export your layout
as a PDF, image or SVG.

Hope it helped,

Alexandre Neto

Hi,

Im probably being stupid but I cant seem to identify where QGIS is
storing them (or at least I cant seem to find a way to specify where I
want to store a Print Composer Project!)

Thanks

Steve
