So all measures would be assumed to be not ellipsoid based at all, just get out and measure and do trig directly on a flat paper. So you have to enable OTFR in order for it to know an ellipse is in use, and which one to use. So basically with OTFR off, projection information about layers is 100% ignored. I can see (but haven't tested) that auto applying ellipse to other projections could lead to incorrect results too. Perhaps we need a warning: When OTFR is off When user clicks measure tool Check coordinate space If it falls within WGS84 bounds pop-up warning Allow users to either enable OTFR and/or silence this warning in the future. Best to forward this idea on to the developers. I see the other option is to let users, set the ellipse on their own if they so choose, perhaps on the project level. [Qgis-user] Distance measures on WGS84 (and other not projected CRSs) project
I have a doubt about the setting of the Ellipsoid for the measure tools when operating on a WGS84 project. If I create a blank project (WGS84) and I add a WGS84 layer, the Ellipsoid is set to None/Planimetric, and it cannot be changed until OTFR is switched on. In this initial state measures are done without reprojecting the points grabbed with the measure tool, and the returned measure value is incorrect. To be able to set the WGS84 Ellipsoid for the measure, I have to switch OTFR before. I think it would be better to set the default measure Ellipsoid to be the same as the project CRS, wouldn't it? giovanni -- Giovanni Allegri http://about.me/giovanniallegri Twitter: https://twitter.com/_giohappy_ blog: http://blog.spaziogis.it GEO+ geomatica in Italia http://bit.ly/GEOplus ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user
[Qgis-user] Reproduction of Northarrow-function from ArcView 3 in QGIS
Hello together, is there any possibility known in QGIS to reproduce the Northarrow-function from ArcView 3.0? Background is having a tool to easy generate a way to find boundary stones or landmarks from a known place. The Northarrow-Button works as follows: After clicking the northarrow-button you can click in the map an draw a line and clicking again defines the end of the line (comparable to line measurement in QGIS). Then automatically the line is labeled with the angle (0-360° and the length from start to endpoint). Difference between the two informations/decimal numbers gets understandable through parallel declaration of the unit (for example: 25,7 m on top of the line and 23,5° below the line). In ArcView that is actually a label, not a vectorlayer. I was searching for plugins first, but didnt find any suitable. Then I tried to rebuild the function through line-vectorlayer with columns Angle and Length and predefined labeling. Problems are 1. That I couldnt calculate the angle between north and the line (GK3). I only found a term for UTM: (atan((xat(-1)-xat(0))/(yat(-1)-yat(0 * 180/3.14159 + (180 *(((yat(-1)-yat(0)) < 0) + (((xat(-1)-xat(0)) < 0 AND (yat(-1) - yat(0)) >0)*2))) 2. That I couldnt manage automatic calculation of length and angle in the attribute table after adding a line to the layer. Its very painful to every time calculate length and angle again. 3. That I couldnt display to labels respectively the content of two attribute columns. 4. That I couldnt manage to label the units ° and m. I would be very thankful for help or advices how to do that. Jonathon, It's on a Windows machine. The QGIS version is 2.2. I used OSGeo4W Advanced Install and installed SAGA via the menus at the same time I installed QGIS. I started SAGA separately to see if there was something to select or click on, but I couldn't find anything helpful. Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS-Merge or creat virtual raster files without losing definition?
Hi Mick, QGIS is using a tool called GDALMerge to do the merging. An alternative is to do it yourself in GDAL at the command line. It's fairly simple. Use the "OSGeo4W Shell" link that comes with QGIS. Navigate to the directory that has the tif files in. To merge all your tiffs together into a basic VRT you only need two lines: *dir /b /s "C:\my data\lots of tiffs\*.tif" > "**C:\my data\lots of tiffs* *\tiff_list.txt"* That line (assuming it's windows; there's a Linux equivalent) basically creates a list of all the tif files. Then: *gdalbuildvrt -input_file_list "C:\my data\lots of tiffs\tiff_list.txt" "C:\my data\lots of tiffs\my_merged_data.vrt"* That line turns it into a VRT file. Re: [Qgis-user] SAGA toolbox
Hi John, I've had this myself in the past. It's a result of the way it has been installed - are you using Windows or Linux? And what version of QGIS? Sometimes the builds for Windows don't include them though I was under the impression this had been fixed. When I moved from 1.8 to 2.0 I thought this happened too. For mine the line work was there, but had somehow become totally transparent. Re: [Qgis-user] Donations, bugfix, release
Hi Paolo, A minor but important quibble at an easy oversight. with over 83% of all reported bugs now fixed, and 60% of feature requests > fulfilled. I believe that's 83% of reported bugs *closed*. and 60% of feature tickets *closed*. This is not the same thing as fixed/fulfilled. Unfortunately not all closed tickets have a "Resolution". Of the 5518 closed bugs, only 1894 have a Resolution specified. Of those the breakdown is: > fixed - 243 > invalid - 568 > wont fix - 156 > duplicate - 479 > worksforme - 419 > up/downstream - 29 Extrapolating the "Fixed" up to account for the missing resolutions, that's ~707. Assuming 50% of the remaining 1097 bugs are actual bugs (seems reasonable given the recent cleanup of the tracker), that gives us ~550 current bugs, and thus a fix rate of about 56%. (not that my maths is usually correct). But I agree, it's good to see tickets getting fixed and the tracker being cleaned up! So thanks to everyone who's participated in all this work towards 2.4.
