Re: [Qgis-user] Problems with RGB channels for jpg

2014-07-17 Thread Otto Dassau
Dear Nicole,

it might be a problem of your hardware and difficult to solve on the ml,
if it only happens on your pc with the same layer. As a workaround for that
file, you could create a .qml style file for the jpg file, after you changed
the channel order to r,g,b as necessary. This lets QGIS load the file with
the channel order you defined.

[Qgis-user] 2.4 super slow compared to 1.8

2014-07-17 Thread Brett Adams
Hi All,

I've just loaded 2.4, used to be on 1.8. Running w7-64

2.4 is stunningly slow in everything it does, almost unusable. I'm just
loading a few polygon shape files, nothing too heavy. 1.8 had no issues
with them.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

It is certainly a local issue: 2.4 is much faster than previous versions.

Hi Julian

Perhaps your operative system or your Excel decimal separator is comma (Some
times I have troubles with this). If doesn't, try opening the *.dbf file of
your shape directly into Excel or LIbreOffice Calc (take care about changes
that can affect shape linking).

Good luck

[Qgis-user] [OT] MONTENOSO: Request to support from GFOSS community

2014-07-17 Thread Luigi Pirelli
Sorry for the OT, but it's related with GIS development and cartography

Hello
We write from @montenoso communication team.
http://www.montenoso.net/

Our project has the aim to visualize and dynamize the Common Lands
Communities of Galicia (Spain).Their extension is almost a third part of
the total surface of Galicia, 640.000 ha, managed by almost 3000 rural
communities. These communities are being loomed by the interests of
corporations and by the public administration.

It is urgent endow of a digital identity to these communities that
represent a centenary alternative
to the public and private types of property. Thus we are developing a
web platform that includes a
a cartography as a visualisation way as you can see here
http://montenoso.net/cartografia_nova/.

We met CartoDB members at Geocampes14 in A Coruña (Spain). Some of the
assistants encouraged us to use it for our project. As they said we've
moved the cartography of our project to this platform. We would like to
achieve a sponsor account because our project is based on collaborative and
voluntary work and at the moment we do not have the resources to face a
paid account.

The project works around the mancomún concept with other communities
like the p2p, free
culture and social movements. Montenoso project is transparent and open
as you can see at the

We want to ask you like a member of the GFLOSS / FOSS community, that

At this time we have achieved backrest of numerous communal land

Hola,
Escribimos desde comunicación de @montenoso.
www.montenoso.net http://www.montenoso.net

a usarlo.

I am using QGIS 2.4.0 on Win7 - 64 bit with 4gb ram and intel i5 2.4ghz
processor. I save my maps consisting of openlayers - google hybrid and some

As a result I get some tiles of google images are missing or partially faded
or sometimes shifted. Please refer to the attached images below.

I am not sure if this is a plugin or composer issue. The images are ok in
the map view and in the print composer preview screen, I must add.

Is this a known issue or a bug, anything to solve?

Thanks,

Re: [Qgis-user] 2.4 super slow compared to 1.8

2014-07-17 Thread Ramon Andiñach
Hi Brett,

Are you panning or zooming around a bit?

It could be the new rendering bits, and particularly multi-treaded rendering
takes a bit of getting used to.
This lets QGIS do the rendering separately from everything else. So instead of
having to sit around waiting for it to finish redawing the screen, yau can keep
doing other things at the same time.

To me it looks like the canvas suddenly goes blank, or blinks and I have a
nasty habit of waiting anyway - even though I know I don't need to.

You can turn it off in the Rendering tab under Opitions if it gets too much.

-ramon.

Hi,
as you can see from the case studies[0], QGIS is widely used for wildlife
conservation. I think most of the tools are already there, it's mostly a matter
of
documenting typical workflows for conservationists, write tutorials, and prepare

[Qgis-user] GSA2014 Meeting - Call for abstracts - Geological and Geomorphological Applications of Digital Terrain Analysis

2014-07-17 Thread Carlos Grohmann
*Time is running out! Submissions deadline 29 July!*

Don't miss the opportunity to attend the awesomest session of the meeting!
:)

 *CALL FOR ABSTRACTS*

(Apologies for cross-posting)

*Geological Society of America Annual Meeting*

Vancouver, B.C, Canada, 19-22 October 2014

http://community.geosociety.org/gsa2014/home/

*Topical Session T128. *

*Geological and Geomorphological Applications of Digital Terrain Analysis*

Carlos Henrique Grohmann, Christopher J. Crosby, Edwin Nissen

Abstracts submission deadline:* 29 July*

http://www.geosociety.org/meetings/2014/sessions/topical.asp

Monitoring and quantification of rates of geomorphic processes requires
repeated acquisition of accurate, high- resolution topographic information.
The rapid growth in the availability of Digital Elevation Models (DEMs)
such as the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission, TerraSAR-X Satellite Mission,
ICESat and CryoSat missions, photogrammetric- derived DEMs from orbital
imagery (ALOS, ASTER, SPOT) or from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and
laser altimetry/scanning (LiDAR), provide a way to look at the topography
of our planet in unprecedented detail, often allowing the recognition of
previously unknown features and the establishment of their spatial
relationships.

Digital Terrain Analysis (DTA) provides the framework for terrain
quantification classification and monitoring, aiming at the recognition and
simulation of geomorphic processes. Advances in DTA have impacted areas
such as hazard and risk assessment, geomorphologic process evaluation,
morphotectonic interpretation, and geophysical data processing.

A first instalment of this session took place during the 2013 GSA meeting.
It was well attended and involved a wide spectrum of terrain analysis
applications and data collection techniques, such as ground- based/airborne
LiDAR, SRTM, ASTER GDEM and Structure from Motion. We expect this session
to build on last year's momentum and to extend and expand DTA discussions
and networking between scientists in this rapidly- growing field.

This session will provide an excellent opportunity to present and discuss

That works for me too, but the geojson file gets rather big, and Firefox
asks me several times if I want to stop the script.

If you can't find simplified polygons, using QGIS server or an export to
mapserver might be a better solution. That would prevent the browser
from loading data he does not need.
