[Qgis-user] Points grid.

2014-10-22 Thread Ourizo Cacho

Hello everyone,

I have a polygon shapefile with a single entity.

Need to create a point grid. Different x and y distance. Besides, I need
to add a orientation for the grid (in degrees).

I´ve searching among the different algorithms but found nothing
interesting so far.

Can anyone help me please??.

[Qgis-user] stop receiving mails

2014-10-22 Thread umbertofilippo

I seem not to understand how to deactivate the mail receiving.
I did all what I was supposed to do by logging in and selecting
disabled in the mail delivery tab.
Then I set the digest mode to on as to receive a bundle, but still I
am receiving lot of mails anyway...

Is there anything else I am supposed to do? Please help me understanding
this, I would rally appreciate it!

thanks in advance

Hi Ourizo,

not at this moment, but I'm planning/busy with a
'borehole/sample'-plugin scenario. I'm also wondering about the options.

It's for a company taking samples from certain plots or lines, in a grid
or along lines.

My use-case plan was:
- select a 'plot' layer (either line or polygon), can be a temporary one
- select one line or plot in it
- give plugin some dx/dy/dxx values (to be able to do a shifted grid)
- in a fresh memory layer, the plugin will generate a grid box, big
enough to be able to rotate it and still covering the plot
- plugin will select all features in this memory layer and make it editable
- now using standard qgis tools you can move or rotate the grid (though
not yet in degrees = would be a nice feature)
- after ready rotating/moving the plugin clips it to only have the
features which are inside the plot
- copy-paste the points to their final destination layer (standard QGIS way)

Because normally you want those points have a certain code, a second
part of the plugin (or a separate one) is a plugin which you can give a
-prefix
-counter (start)
-postfix
and a column to write the code in
Now hovering over or clicking on the points (and based on
prefix/counter/postfix) the points are given a code.

Other options? Any comment on this plan? Would this be a workable way?
Or do you think it would be easier to have this as an algorithm?

Regards,

Richard Duivenvoorde

[Qgis-user] Earthquake focal mechanisms

2014-10-22 Thread Lester Anderson
Hi all,

I was wondering if there is a plugin (or other utility) available to plot
earthquake focal mechanism solutions (the beach ball plots) in QGis, or if
anyone has experience with dealing with such data.

Cheers

I'm not expert in earthquake data an analysis at all... but please
check if fit your necessity that plugin I ported and added some
funcionalities for GEM http://www.globalquakemodel.org/

Analysing and Processing Earthquake Catalogue Data
https://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/gem_mt/

Current version is experimental, so you need to activate experimental
flag to view it.

Re: [Qgis-user] Vectors data and raster with same projection didnot overlap

 Dear All,

Ensure that both layers have proper CRS defined, and then in the project
properties dialog box, click CRS and check off enable 'on the fly' CRS
transformations. You may not need to physically reproject the data (if I
understand this is what was already done).

I follow many methods (exploring differents tutorials documents):
1- I set the in one project properties under CRS: EPSG:32631 -WGS 84 / UTM
zone 31 N and open my layers
2- for the second project, I Rightclick - Set CRS for layer
3- I tried the both (project properties and rightclick)

The only correct way to reproject a vector layer is to use Save as...
under a different filename and different CRS.

If you are not sure which data is correct:

Set Project CRS to EPSG:3857 and enable on-the-fly-reprojection
Add a Openstreetmap or Google background with the Openlayers plugin
Add the untouched datasources one by one and chekc if they align to the
background

[Qgis-user] using field calculator to do a spatial update for a table using data from an overlapping geometry.

2014-10-22 Thread Damien Stephens
HI
I have two tables, a point table and a polygon table. I want to be able to
create a new field in the point table using data in a field in the polygon
table.
Basically if a point is within a poygon I would like to return the value from
polygon.value as a field in the point table, but am lost on the syntax of ;
A referring to the geometry of another table and
B refering to a field of a nother table in the field calculator.

Here is roughly what I want to be able to do:

Case when within(polygontable, pointtable) =1 then polygontable.field else null
end

My main questions are;
can I just use the table names in the within function?
What is the syntax for referring to another tables' fields in the field
calculator?

I know that what I want to do can be done using the join attribute by
location tool, but I don't want to create a new table.

As an extra bonus..
Do I have to have both tables in the same CRS? IF so is there a way to convert
the point table x and y cords to another crs in the field calculator then use
that in the within function?

Any assistance really appreciated.
Thanks
Damien
