[Qgis-user] Toolbar functionality not working, but Processing is

2015-05-05 Thread Johanna Botman

Hi,

I'm working with 2.8.1 on a 64bit Win 7 machine.

I'm trying to Select By Location, copy the selection and paste as a new
vector layer. Normally would find that functionality under the Vector menu
and then under the Edit menu. Now it's not working. When I select, the
points are highlighted, but when I look at the new layer, there are no
points. The attribute headings are there, but no data.

If I try the same steps via the Processing Toolbox all is well.

Can anyone explain why this would be happening?

[Qgis-user] Fwd: Summer school: SPATIO-TEMPORAL ANALYSIS AND BIG DATA PROCESSING USING FREE AND OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE

2015-05-05 Thread Giuseppe Amatulli
HI,
Apologies for cross-posting:

*spatial-ecology* in collaboration with Department of Ecology, Evolution,
and Marine Biology at University of
California, Santa Barbara is organizing a Summer
school

*Summer school: SPATIO-TEMPORAL ANALYSIS AND BIG DATA PROCESSING USING FREE
AND OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE *(basic and advanced levels)

Over the last few decades there has been an explosion in the availability
of data for environmental research, and in particular for spatio-temporal
analysis. We are now able to address a number of important questions, both
new and old, with unprecedented rigor and generality. Leveraging these
exciting new data streams requires tools and increasingly complex
workflows. This 6-day course introduces a set of free and open source
software (BASH, AWK ,GDAL, GRASS, R, Python, PKTOOLS, OFGT) to perform
spatio-temporal analysis and modelling of environmental data in a Linux
environment. We also introduce multi-core, cloud and cluster computation
procedures using High Performance Computing - Amazon Web Services. The
course consists of a set of lectures and practical hands-on sessions in
which participants perform spatial and temporal analysis using Geographic
Information System and Remote Sensing concepts. Although courses focuses on
the command line instead of the graphical user interface, *no prior
experience with programming or command line interfaces is assumed or
required*. To cater to students with prior programming experience, we will
hold parallel sessions that introduce more advanced material (e.g. parallel
processing) . Our main focus is on teaching self learning and problem
solving more than the use of specific tools (see: our teaching method

) so participants will be able to progress and adapt to learn the newest
available data science techniques.

*Dates/Location: 16-17-20-21-22 of July / Santa Barbara

- USA California.*

[Qgis-user] displaying raster data

2015-05-05 Thread Tsering W. Shawa
I use ArcGIS on regular basis. However, I am planning to use QGIS to teach GIS
analysis to a NGO group. Somehow I can not find an option to view a raster
attribute table in QGIS. Is there a way to view a raster attribute table in
QGIS? Also, is there way to displaying raster unique values? I also could not
find an option to control a display of continuous value using singleband
pseudocolor. Is there a way to control class interval?

Any help will be appreciated.

Re: [Qgis-user] Add mssql non-geometric tables

2015-05-05 Thread Peter Schürch
Hi James, Nathan
I found the problem. Nathan was right. The table was lacking a field with data
type "int", which is unique. I had a field with data type "text" which was
unique. That is obviously not sufficient.

Thanks for your help!

Peter,
I am also running 2014. It's a good question to ask, and honestly I'm not sure
what the specifics are for a recognizable table in QGIS.

Do you want to send me a dump of the table and let me try it over here?

[Qgis-user] QGIS fixed distance buffer.

2015-05-05 Thread Hugo Fox
Hi guys I'm using version 2.8.1 and having real issues getting my fixed
distance buffer layers to display.

I have instances where the buffer displays correctly and others where it
doesn't display the buffer at all. In each case I am doing the same procedure.
I am trying to create a fixed distance buffer inside a polygon.

The task I am trying to do is create a 30m or 50m setback from a property
boundary.

1. I am loading the cadastre
2. Turning on edit
3. Selecting a polygon
4. Creating a fixed distance buffer with a negative value inside the QGIS
geoalgorithms/ fixed distance buffer

As stated in some instances it displays in others it doesn't. Does a polygon
have to have any specific attributes to make this work?

Help

Cheers Hugo
