[Qgis-user] Variable containing other variable in its value

2016-02-09 Thread Fuenfer-Koenigstein.Benjamin
Dear List Members,

I'm looking for a way to create project-variables that contain other variables.
This function would be great to define file-path for svg-symbols leading to the
correct svg-file on different Computers.
For example:
Variable: svg_path
Value: @project_folder + '/svg_symbols/powerplant.svg'

If I type the above standing value in the data defined override for the file
path in the symbol-selector-menu it works, if I create a variable with the same
value and use that in the data defined override, it doesn't work. Any idea why?
Is it just not possible to use variables within the value of a variable?

Thanks for any help!

Best regards

Benjamin Fünfer-Königstein

@Nyall: good idea to do a write up! Besides on your blog, maybe we can
write a thorough page on the website to and make that very prominent. So
a link to that (translated) page could be the 'standard reply' for us?
And that page then has your points, but also makes it very clear that a
project as QGIS also needs hands, time and effort from it's *users* too.

> Anyway, keep up with your good work regardless if paid or voluntary. As
> I see it, the mix is what makes the project successful...

My main point is that QGIS started (and still is) a volunteering
project. And to give users rather not so nuanced replies like: "plz pay
for this feature if you can" is not the message that I think we should
sent to the world.

I'm OK off course with sponsoring and hiring good developers to add
something to QGIS, but it is the tone that makes the musique (in french
it sounds better :-) ).

Andreas (thanks for this!) sent me a link to this article:
https://mako.cc/writing/funding_volunteers/funding_volunteers.html
which (at least to me) hits exactly the right spot. Plz all read it!

As a community we should try to stay friendly, open and correct. No need
to act like a business, as I hope/think a healthy community is in the
end stronger then a business.

Regards & thanks,

Richard

Moin Jürgen,

If you don`t mind, yet another question:

Latest qgis-dev package on
http://download.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/x86/release/qgis/qgis-dev/ is:
qgis-dev-2.13.0-93.tar.bz2

But through OSGeo4W I can only install the two days old version 2.13.0-91. I
downloaded the osgeo4w-setup-x86.exe again but that did not change anything.
The setup.ini is still from 06.02.2016... Is there a way to install 2.13.0-93
already now, or do I have to wait just a little more?

Cheers

P.S.: I hope you bear with my impatience, I am just eager to see the temporal

Thanks all for your thoughts. I agree that we should make it more simple
for people and organization to fund specific efforts, and crowdfunding
proved a simple and effective way to do so.
IMHO we should put more prominently, possibly within qgis itself, an
explanation on which crowdfunding projects are currently available, and
how to fund them.
All the best.

Hei,
me again.

The GRASS7 plugin is still not available / it does not load in -93. The
qgis-dev-g7.0.3RC2.bat points to the RC2 which is no longer available in
OSGeo4W.
I changed the paths in the qgis-dev-g7.0.3RC2.bat to
%OSGEO4W_ROOT%\apps\grass\grass-7.0.3\
But that did not change anything.

Did I do something wrong (I just updated through the OSGeo4W-setup)?

Any chance to get the plugin working and test Radims fix for the temporal
modules?

[Qgis-user] split lines at fixed intervals

2016-02-09 Thread Schroeder Natalia

Hello,
I want to split polylines into fixed 1500 m intervals. Using the grass
tool v.split.length with 1500 as "maximum segment length", the lines are
divided into equal intervals (not fixed), I mean, the tool "accommodate"
the length of lines in order to split them in equal intervals. For
example: if the line is 8000 m length, the result is 6 segments of
1333.33 m, instead of maintaining the 1500 m I want, and leaving a small
surplus segment of 500 m.

Does exist a way to do what I want?
Thanks in advance
Natalia

In my experience, Difference is much faster than Dissolve. Create a big
polygon around the area containing the buffers. Then run Difference on the
polygon layer and the buffer layer, then run it a second time to get the
desired result.

Hi!

QChainage is more for measurements - it will not split the line feature.
If you really want the feature splitted I'd rather use something like
the "Station Lines" plugin to make lines crossing the line I want to
split - and use the "Split lines with lines" tool from the processing
toolbox.
And use QChainage to check if everything worked ;)

Werner
