[Qgis-user] Draw a polygon on a map, and retrieve it as a shapeFile

2016-02-17 Thread Mustafa Elbehery
Hi All,

I have tried to draw a Polygon on WebOpenStreetMap Layer, to retrieve it in
the end as Polygon, for testing my java application.

I have used a *addVector**Layer *menu, then select *polygon, *then draw the
polygon and save as shapeFile.

The problem is that I retrieved a *Multipolygon on the shapeFile, and *not
Polygon ..

Would like to know how to retrieve a polygon only, since I am interested in
the intersection points of other geometries, and PostGIS Function which do
this functionality, expecting only *Polygon. *

Re: [Qgis-user] merged files generating "bad handles"

2016-02-17 Thread Nicolas Cadieux
Hey Buddy!

It helps if you give more info on the platform you are using (Windows,
Linux disto...) the QGis version and the way you are accessing the GDAL
merge. That being said, if you are using the processing toolbox plugin
to use this tool, it will, by default, save the results as a temporary
file that is probably erased when you log off. You need to specify the
file name and the complete path to make sure you will keep the file.
Once the file is loaded in Qgis, it will normally not have the name you
gave it but will have a generic named like "merged.tiff". (The file name
on the disk will be good). Hover your mouse over the layer in the Layer
Panel or look in the layer - properties - metadata - properties - Source
for this layer, and you should find the complete path.

I normally reload the file so that the file name and layer name match.
If you are using the Merge from the raster - misc - merge tool, make
sure you click on the "Select" button so that you can save it in the
right place. If you just put the Output file name, I think the file is
save in the last used directory but I am not sure. If you still have
problems, look at the gdal script
in the box. That should also give you full path of the output file.
Ultimately, you can cut and paste this script into the OSGeo command
prompt and by-pass Qgis completely. BTW, there is a limit to the number
of files you can merge together. If you have more that a hundred files
to merge, I would make a virtual file than save that using gdal translate.

Hope this helps.

Nicolas
(Newfoundlander by heart!)

Cheers!

FWI, I have a Google + community called QGIS Canada. There is not much
going on there now but I would like to eventually use it for Canadian
users looking for tip and data pertaining to Canadian data sets,
research questions and problems. Please make it known to your students.
The Qgis mail list, remains the best option for your current question.

You can look at the link below, it might help.
I do not know what the situation is in the CentOS repositories. On openSuse
this is the choices from the Geo repository. Though I see CentOS 6 is listed as
well.

Re: [Qgis-user] PROBLEM IN RUNNING DEM

2016-02-17 Thread Michael Treglia
Hi Ashish,

Can you please elaborate on what you did? What tool were you using, and
exactly what was your goal? (Was it something through the processing
toolbox? Or the main functions in QGIS?)

These errors kind of look like what I've seen when I use SAGA GIS through
the processing toolbox and operations fail - I often find some SAGA
functions work best when I use SAGA as a stand-alone tool. It should be
installed with QGIS (on Windows you should be able to find it by searching
in your start menu... not sure offhand about mac/linux systems).
Alternatively, you could download (a newer version of) SAGA and install
that on its own as well: http://www.saga-gis.org/en/index.html

Again though, giving more details will help others give some advice.
Cheers,
Mike

Hi Uwe,

If you can't use formatting tags, then possibly Unicode is your friend
here - have a look at characters U1D31 and U1D3A - superscript E and N
respectively. Using these should allow you to generate labels like this:
0234ᴱ or 345389ᴺ

Not currently - there's no support for formatting in the coordinate text.

Hello

I see version 3 is near to be published and I’m testing the Beta 3 one.

I am thinking to migrate the user logins and group roles from the
jauth.db to a PostgreSQL database.

First of all, is it of any advantage to store these data into a
postgresql db?

I figure it would be good as the number of users will rise and
considering the opportunity to upgrade lizmap wc version frequently,
as I saw any new version carry lot of improvements with it…

Anyway, assuming it is advantageous, how can I handle this process?

Shall I create the same tables and sequences as for jauth.db into a
PostgreSQL schema and then edit profiles.ini.php with something like this?

[jdb:jauth]
driver=pdo
dsn="pgsql:host=myhost;dbname=mydb;port=5432"

password="mypwd"

Thanks for any suggestion.

bad handles and as I cannot locate where the file was saved to (despite
various searches) I lose the work. Any suggestions on what I might be
failing to do.
