Hi Steve,

Are you able to add some data to the bug report that isn’t working?
A bit of the csv file and the csvt would do.

(I just failed to replicate it, although I’m sure I’ve seen it in the last
month or so…)

[Qgis-user] How to save a virtual layer (from a filtered join) with geography from original layer?

2017-02-10 Thread László Sándor
Hi,

I am using QGIS 2.18.2 on a Mac and new to QGIS (or much of GIS), but I
would like to get a specific task done and I am not sure if I ran into a
fundamental limitation of QGIS.

As I tried to describe on gis.stackexchange.com, I would like to produce
shape files for US census block groups (CBGs) but separately for each (or
the few largest) commuting zone (CZ).
http://gis.stackexchange.com/q/227420/28426

CBG shape files are available state by state, but the commuting zone is not
an attribute in the Census files.

Yet if I join a layer of a shape file with another layer with CZ
identifiers, I can only filter the result to get a virtual layer, which
does not export the geographies if exported/saved. See a separate question
specifically on that:
http://gis.stackexchange.com/q/227277/28426

I am aware of some limitations of the QGIS architecture that might cause
this.
https://hub.qgis.org/issues/8141

However, maybe there is a common workaround which I haven't found. Or
anything else you can think of but I could not.

Thanks for any help,

Laszlo

Hi Boaz,
First thing I would say is to save it as a shapefile in its native CRS.
Also you dont mention a EPSG Code, are you using a defined or custom CRS?
If you are using a defined CRS with a EPSG, you can use on the fly
transformations, having the project set to the "New Grid" and your
shapefile in its native or "Old grid". This can be done by right
clicking on the EPSG: code on the bottom right of QGIS, and ticking
*Enable 'on the fly' transformations
*The other option would be to use reproject shapefile, to translate the
CRS from the old to the new. you can find this by typing reproject into
the Processing Toolbox Search, its one of the QGIS geoalgorithims.

Regards,

Richard.*

Ian,
You could try to limit the max amount of ram available for each VM, this
would have been done when each, was created, you should probably start
there!
Its under Settings, System, Motherboard and Base Memory, I would say
reduce it so as each VM has equal Memory and you leave a bit for the host.

Richard.

2017-02-10 Thread Nicolas Cadieux
Hi,

I see that Richard has responded correctly. I will just add that dxf files do
not really have a CRS. You just need to know it! Usually, the coordinates are
in meters or feet and correspond to a local CRS (ex UTM zone 18N). You may
have to do some trial and error in order to find the original CRS. When you
find that, saving it as a shape file as Richard mentioned, and then specifying
the crs, is a good way to go.

Good luck
Nicolas

Hi,

Qgis works well with 4GB of memory on windows 7-64 for simple projects. If
possible, I would have more that one VM that would be configured with each 4GB
of ram and limit 1 user at a time per VM. If your server can handle the load,
that would be the best way to go it think.

I'm creating a layer from a CSV file. I have created .csvt file.
From the Create a Layer from a Delimited text file I see that the field
rls_est is a string and the leading zero is there.
But when I click Ok, the layer is created and rls_est field type is
integer instead of String, so I lose the leading 0.
See 2 images attached

Bug?

I prefer not using add vector layer because some numeric fields become
String.

For Example you mention Israeli TM, which has a EPSG code of 2093, does

Without knowing what CRS of your DXF has its very hard to do either of

2017-02-10 Thread Richard McDonnell

Boaz,
Assuming that's the correct CRS,

1. Save the DXF as a Shapefile and specify 4326.
2. Using Reproject Layer, select the newly created shapefile and
specify the 2039 ( I had it wrong in my previous email) in the
*Target CRS* field, by right clicking on the button to the right of
the field and typing 2039 into the search field, and select Israeli TM
3. Under the Reprojected field either leave alone (results in a tempory
File) or pick save to file by right clicking on the little button to
   the right of the field

The translated file should be loaded into your desktop.
Hope this helps,

Richard.
