If you detail a bit more what they are struggling with, it might help with a

Subject: [Qgis-user] Tutoring request (resent)

Hi,

Apologies if this is an inappropriate post; guidance accepted.

I have been asked to help a self described 'elderly' farming couple come to
grips with qgis, as I have some computer knowledge. However I have next to no
qgis knowledge and feel I would be little use. They have told me the online
help only gets them so far...

Would anyone from around the Victoria Australia 3737 postcode ( or beyond if
you feel it could be managed) be willing to handhold these folk through till
they are comfortable with those parts of the application they will need most?
They have some data from a migration from E-Farmer and an initial foray or two
into qgis.

Hoping someone could point us to a suitable solution.

With thanks,

Tony

2017-04-02 Thread magerlin
Solved - had nothing to do with Qgis version - it is the Qgis2compat plugin
(which the QFieldsync needs) that caused the trouble.

Never do two changes at a time.

2017-04-02 Thread Xan Vieiro
2. Is there a way to lock features so that when I open the map in QField I
can see those layers but cannot select or edit them? I want to lock my
basemap features so that only my "working layers" are selectable and
editable in QField. I partially accomplished this using a tool that builds
the basemap into raster tiles but at small scales the labels interfere with
each other.

Presets works fine with QField. Located at the Layer Panel.

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS Server Process Crash

2017-04-02 Thread Simon Greener
The installation can only be on Microsoft Windows Server.

AFAIK it is a supported platform.

The supplied information is all that we can find that describes the error.

The Apache and QGIS error logs show nothing before the process crash.

The QGIS Projects are all OK when they are used in QGIS Desktop: no crash
occurs.

The crashing has consistently occurred in both 2.14 LTR 32bit and 2.18.4
64bit.
The crashing has stopped the application from going live.

If anyone can point to some "standard" settings or things that need to be
checked, please supply.

Regards
Simon

Unfortunately, while it may be "supported" platform, it's not *well*
supported. There's severe known issues running server under Windows
which have been unaddressed for a long time, eg
http://hub.qgis.org/issues/13293.

I'm personally not aware of anyone using QGIS server under Windows in
a production environment.

My suggestion - either Alessandro or the team at Oslandia are the most
knowledgeable about QGIS server setup and operation. I'd engage them
for this project and sponsor fixes through them for any blocking
blocking bugs in the QGIS server operation on Windows.

Dear Richard,

Thanks for your kind reply! I copied the error message and pasted it
below. I must say that I am novice on qgis. Any help you may be able to
provide will be greatly appreciated.

* Please use my gmail address when you send an email.

Regards,

this is a typical Python unicode issue. Which affects people using non
western character sets... (and probably will not show up when installed
on english/western computers).

So please:
- sent us either a screendump of the full error
- or try to copy the list of files shown there

as that will reveal which python file exactly is misbehaving.
