[Qgis-user] hide vector under raster?

2018-05-29 Thread Tobias Wendorff
Hi there,

is it possible to hide a vector layer under a raster layer?

The "click through" identify function allows to query data from the
vector, but on each zoom the vector layer gets rendered completely
again. Sure, it makes use of an spatial index, but since there are
many vector elements, it takes a while.

I tried to hide the vector layer using visibility at fixed scale,
but then it's not possible to query it...

Best regards,
Tobias

I just had the same idea, but no... when zooming out, QGIS crashes
after some minutes (even on a big machine).

I really miss "join table to raster" function from ArcGIS, but I
don't have enough money to donate the function to QGIS :(

How about using the no symbols renderer in the style tab in Layer properties?
Wouldn't that do?

2018-05-29 Thread Bernhard Ströbl

Hi Tobias,
I did not really get what you want to achieve. Let me put it in my words
(this is what I understand)

1) You have a vector layer with _many_ features
2) You do not want to have it rendered because it takes so long to render
3) You want to query this layer
4) When you zoom out QGIS crashes when using the no symbols renderer

Questions: What kind of layer is this: DataProvider? geometryType?
Which version of QGIS are you using?
Does QGIS crash when zooming out while you use a simple renderer?

Actually, it doesn't crash because of no symbols renderer. It just
takes so long to load the vector data that QGIS doesn't respond
anymore. When I click somewhere into QGIS after 10-15 minutes, Windows
told me that the app crashed and that I have to restart it.

24 shapefiles, polygon grid with 100 x 100 meters

QGIS3 (tested stable release and nightly)

Same behavior: it doesn't respond after some minutes.
There's no difference between no symbols and simple renderer.

Re: [Qgis-user] hide vector under raster?

2018-05-29 Thread Nicolas Cadieux
Hi,

If you are having crashes, try on 2.18 to see if you have the same problem.
Are you using on the fly reprojection? If your vector file is not in the same
format as the raster, the reprojection is probably taking all the time. Try
saving in an other format like spatialite that is more efficient than shp.
Copy the file on a local disk and not a file server. Make a new project with
only the raster and the vector files to make try and isolate the crash problem.
 Disable all plugins.

Perhaps the control rendering order in the layer order panel can help? Not
sure, I don’t use that.

Re: [Qgis-user] Preserving geometry when batching joins

2018-05-29 Thread Nicolas Cadieux

Hi,

It appears that the join attributes table found in the 2.18 processing
joins tables but not like the "Joins" found in the layer property.  You
are right, there is no option to save as a shp file! Only database
formats.

Your best option is to use the field calculator in the point shp file
and to create a new column with the geometries x and y. Then you can
join the table and save as a csv.  Then, reimport the csv and use the x
and y to recreate the points geometry.

OR

The problem is solved by using Qgis 3 where you can save as a .shp.

Bonjour Nicolas,

Thanks for taking the time to answer my email.
Unfortunately the only options that I have for saving the
joined files are all table based - see the screenshot that I
have uploaded here:

If I do the joins one by one, then yes it is easy to save the
point dataset as a shapefile after it has been joined with the
csv file, but I can't find a way of doing this in batch mode.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Sam

Hi,
Once you have joined the geometry file to the matching
attribute file, you should be able to save that as a shape

Hello,

I've hit a issue in Qgis that I'm struggling to
resolve, and I'm hoping that someone might be able to
point me in the right direction.

I have 12 point geometry data sets and 12 csv files.
Each csv file contain the attributes for one of the
point data sets - there are exactly the same number of
records in each point / csv pair:

Points1.shp:
-- point 1 UID
-- point 2 UID
..
-- point 980 UID

Attributes1.csv:
-- record 1 (Point 1 UID, blah, blah, whatever)
-- record 2 (Point 2 UID, blah, blah, whatever)
...
-- record 980 (Point 980 UID, blah, blah, whatever)

I've loaded them all into Qgis and was hoping that I
could join them as a batch process, so that I end up
with 12 point geometry shapefiles, with each point
associated with the equivalent record from the
matching csv file I've had some success, in that
the batch interface to join allows me to list the
input layers, fields for the joins and the output file
names very easily, but I can't work out how to
preserve the geometry of the points. The only file
