[Qgis-user] Help for QGIS installation /Aide pour installer QGIS

2021-02-23 Thread SENFAUTE Gloria
Dear all,
In case, you can write in French!
I need a strong help for updating or installing last version of QGIS.
Working in linus (Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) 64 bits).
In my computer I have a version of QGIS (2.4 ESSEN).
In few days I will have my first training with QGIS and I must to install: QGIS
3.10.14 LTR.

I would like to know what is the better way:
1)To update of QGIS 2.4 to 3.10.14 LTR, How to do it ?
2) To remove QGIS 2.4 and then re-install following the steps of QGIS site for
linus ?
I am so afraid of this last solution: if I remove and I cannot install the new
QGIS.
I administrator of my computer but I have also many proxis installed by my
company, so I didn't try, I am waiting for advises.

Thank you very much !

Gloria

2021-02-23 Thread Nicolas Boisteault

Hi Gloria,

You could install QGIS in a virtual machine using Virtual Box or in a
container with Docker
(https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/tree/master/.docker#running-qgis).

This way you'll be safe of any bad changes.

[Qgis-user] snapping polygons together

2021-02-23 Thread Ryan Peel
I am making a grid layer and I want to copy/move some of them to 'lock'
into adjacent ones perfectly. Trying to avoid messing with the vertex
editor. zooming in close to the edges never gets it exact. I don't want
to drag the corner vertices and snap, I just want to move the whole polygon
and snap it to the edge of another. Maybe I'm missing something.

Hi,
2.4 and 3.x can live together on the same machine in Windows. Is it the same in
Linux? Probably... I figure you can install 3.10 without removing anything.
Can a true Linux fan confirm?

As for the Linux installation, I followed the instructions here on a Ubuntu
machine and it worked well.

[Qgis-user] snap after changing the datasource of a layer

2021-02-23 Thread Jauk Hek

Hi there,

Using 3.10.7 and sometimes experience problems with snapping.

Working with a shape I snap to a dxf file. When I change the data source
of the dxf layer (from something.dxf to something2.dxf) it not always
snap to the newly added or changed features. Seems like there is no
update of the index?

Is there a way to force the update of the index?

Toggel layer off and on for snapping or change snappable layers and back
did not help.___

[Qgis-user] QGIS 3.18.0 and QGIS 3.14.4 (LTR) packages released and OSGeo4W reboot

2021-02-23 Thread Jürgen E . Fischer
Hi there,

I'm happy to announce that the QGIS packages of 3.16.4 (LTR) 'Hannover' and the
our latest release 3.18.0 'Zürich' are ready on
https://qgis.org/de/site/forusers/download.html. This includes Linux, Mac and
Windows packages. With the availability of a new regular release the current
long-term release 3.16 replaces the previous long-term release 3.10 in the long
term package repositories.

The Windows standalone installer are as usual made from the OSGeo4W packages.

In OSGeo4W there has lately been a big effort to reboot it, meaning that it has
been completely rebuilt using newer source versions of mostly every package
using a newer compiler. As this happened shortly before the QGIS release the
new packages are still in a separate repository for testing.

You can install them using the osgeo4w installer on
http://download.osgeo.org/osgeo4w/testing/osgeo4w-setup.exe (note the testing -
the old installer will also work, if you point it to the new site, but it will
default to the old).

Within the reboot a lot of old packages were dropped (including dependencies to
old microsoft runtimes), new packages were introduced and also package names
were revised.

Long story short: you cannot upgrade from old installs and have to remove and
reinstall or use a separate directory. As the new OSGeo4W only supports 64bit
the default root directory was changed to C:\OSGeo4W, which might help with
that if you were on 64bit earlier.

Also note that it now only has one version of Python - namely 3.9, which
doesn't support Windows 7 anymore. Other updates include Qt 5.15, GDAL 3.2,
PROJ 7.2 and SAGA 7.8.

It also has PDAL 2.2 which is required for native support of point clouds in
QGIS - something that you find lacking in the "old" OSGeo4W repository and in
turn in the current standalones.

The new installer also doesn't require administrator privileges anymore.
Unless you run it elevated (ie. as Administrator) the option to create
shortcuts for all users will be unavailable.

The testing repository will eventually replace the old repository and also be
used to make standalone installers. As it has grown to exceed the 2GB limit
of NSIS the standalone installers will then be switched to MSI.

The package recipes currently reside at https://github.com/jef-n/OSGeo4W.

Please test and report packaging issues to the OSGeo4W TRAC at
https://trac.osgeo.org/osgeo4w.

Re: [Qgis-user] Help for QGIS installation /Aide pour installer QGIS

2021-02-23 Thread Richard Duivenvoorde
Hi Gloria,

Not sure if you can pull up to 3.10 on Debian Stretch/9 (which is rather
old).

If I look here:
https://qgis.org/debian/dists/stretch/main/binary-amd64/Packages
it looks like that if you try to install QGIS in the normal/distro way, you
will end up with QGIS 3.4 (I think, anybody can confirm ...)

Isn't it possible to upgrade your machine to Debian 10/Buster?
Then you can upgrade to 3.12 (which is 3.10 plus a little extra ;-) ) if you
use the "Démarrage rapide"
https://www.qgis.org/fr/site/forusers/alldownloads.html#quickstart
Or even 3.14, 3.16 (tell your educator there is a newer LTR ;-) ) or higher?

If all fails, you could try to install a flatpak (but not sure about that
either for Debian 9):
https://www.qgis.org/fr/site/forusers/alldownloads.html#flatpak

And if even that fails... and you have some experience with compiling yourself,
you could compile from source...

But: Stretch is rather old, if you ask me: upgrade to Buster/10 first

Good Luck & regards,

Richard Duivenvoorde

Re: [Qgis-user] Symbol lines every km, moving when changing scale or moving map

Hi,

Not sure if/how I can help on this benchmark.
If I understand well you want to know if disabling the simplification on
the marker line symbol layer only would make a huge difference or not on
rendering performance. But as far as I saw the option is only available for
the whole layer at the moment.

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS 3.18.0 and QGIS 3.14.4 (LTR) packages released and OSGeo4W reboot

2021-02-23 Thread Martin Dobias
Hi Jürgen

Great - thanks a lot for all your efforts!

As for PDAL / point clouds, during the development the initial requirement
for PDAL 2.2 has been later dropped to PDAL >= 1.7:
https://github.com/hobu/untwine/commit/5d83f32f81aa461a9b12f1084197aa7af5f8ec19

The current windows standalone QGIS installer is currently unable to open
LAS/LAZ files, which is confusing to users... Would it be possible to
compile QGIS with PDAL 1.8 (which is already included in osge4w packages) ?
There should be hopefully no code changes necessary. Howard says PDAL 1.8
is quite old and has some bugs, but that's still better than no LAS/LAZ
support at all :-)

Regards
Martin

Hi Jürgen!

Thanks for all that great work!
Are there any instructions on how to use the scripts to build the packages?

Did you consider building a python gdal/proj package that could be
installed on the normal python distribution as well as on OSGeo4W?

Re: [Qgis-user] snapping polygons together

2021-02-23 Thread Thayer Young
 Hi Ryan,
This would be clunky but should do what you want:0) turn on editing for your
grid layer1) select the feature you want to 'move'2) use the Translate tool
a) check the 'Selected features only' check box    b) enter the desired offset
distance for the x and y axis         i) this will be easy to calculate if your
grid is regular         ii) otherwise use the measure tool3) if the new feature
meets your requirements    a) delete the original, selected, feature from the
grid    b) select, copy (control + c) and paste (control + v) the translated
feature to the grid layer4) save the grid layer

[Qgis-user] Training in Canada

I have been approach by a couple of groups looking for QGIS training in
Vancouver. Does anyone have any contacts there that might be interested in
running some training workshops for geologists?

To make it even shorter, can you make a recommendation of what to do?
If we don't need point clouds, can we just wait and eventually OSGEO4W will
catch up, or are we going to eventually have to uninstall and reinstall anyway.

On past evidence windows 10 will screw up all the default apps and icons if I
uninstall and reinstall, so I'll probably wait if that is going to work
eventually.
