Hello Mathias Thanks for putting this together. However, I fell I need to tell you about these warnings: Warning: Calling Formula.sha1 is deprecated! Use Formula.sha256 instead. [Qgis-user] scale of features on screen = real scale?
Hi all I just noticed that setting a given scale in QGIS does not result in seeing the features on screen at that scale. For instance, if I set the scale to 1:500.000, a feature measuring 100km should have 20cm on the screen (or printed). But to get close to that, I must set the scale to 260.000 (my monitor is at 3200x1800 px). Any way to make the visual scale match the real one? [Qgis-user] For the devs - 1 opinion and 1 request
Dear list, I'd like to leave here one opinion about the GUI organisation and one request: 1 - Comment - as far as the GUI goes, it's great. But some plugins just have one option and still make an entry in the menu, for instance: Raster - Georeferencer - Georeferencer Vector - Table Manager - Table Manager Vector - Spatial Query - Spatial Query Vector - GPS - GPS Tools and more, I believe. Wouldn't it be better for these tools to be directly under the top-level menu? Like: Raster - Georeferencer Vector - Table Manager Vector - Spatial Query Vector - GPS Tools just a thought. 2 - Request In the merge shapefiles tool, we only have the option of selecting files from directories. What about selection files that are already loaded in QGIS? I think this would be a welcome addition. 3 - thanks for making this awesome software. [Qgis-user] GSA2014 Meeting - Call for abstracts - Geological and Geomorphological Applications of Digital Terrain Analysis
*Time is running out! Submissions deadline 29 July!* Don't miss the opportunity to attend the awesomest session of the meeting! :) *CALL FOR ABSTRACTS* (Apologies for cross-posting) *Geological Society of America Annual Meeting* Vancouver, B.C, Canada, 19-22 October 2014 http://community.geosociety.org/gsa2014/home/ *Topical Session T128. * *Geological and Geomorphological Applications of Digital Terrain Analysis* Carlos Henrique Grohmann, Christopher J. Crosby, Edwin Nissen Abstracts submission deadline:* 29 July* http://www.geosociety.org/meetings/2014/sessions/topical.asp Monitoring and quantification of rates of geomorphic processes requires repeated acquisition of accurate, high- resolution topographic information. The rapid growth in the availability of Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) such as the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission, TerraSAR-X Satellite Mission, ICESat and CryoSat missions, photogrammetric- derived DEMs from orbital imagery (ALOS, ASTER, SPOT) or from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and laser altimetry/scanning (LiDAR), provide a way to look at the topography of our planet in unprecedented detail, often allowing the recognition of previously unknown features and the establishment of their spatial relationships. Digital Terrain Analysis (DTA) provides the framework for terrain quantification classification and monitoring, aiming at the recognition and simulation of geomorphic processes. Advances in DTA have impacted areas such as hazard and risk assessment, geomorphologic process evaluation, morphotectonic interpretation, and geophysical data processing. A first instalment of this session took place during the 2013 GSA meeting. It was well attended and involved a wide spectrum of terrain analysis applications and data collection techniques, such as ground- based/airborne LiDAR, SRTM, ASTER GDEM and Structure from Motion. We expect this session to build on last year's momentum and to extend and expand DTA discussions and networking between scientists in this rapidly- growing field. This session will provide an excellent opportunity to present and discuss recent advances in methods, algorithms, and applications of DTA to geology and geomorphology. *Altmetrics!* help us track the reach of this Call for Abstracts by visiting (and sharing!) it at figshare. http://dx.doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.1015745 -- Prof. Carlos Henrique Grohmann Institute of Energy and Environment - Univ. of São Paulo, Brazil - Digital Terrain Analysis | GIS | Remote Sensing - http://carlosgrohmann.com http://orcid.org/-0001-5073-5572 Can't stop the signal. ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user

[Qgis-user] GSA2014 Meeting - Call for abstracts - Geological and Geomorphological Applications of Digital Terrain Analysis
Just a friendly reminder... *CALL FOR ABSTRACTS* (Apologies for cross-posting) *Geological Society of America Annual Meeting* Vancouver, B.C, Canada, 19-22 October 2014 http://community.geosociety.org/gsa2014/home/ *Topical Session T128.

Re: [Qgis-user] some impressions from my students
Andreas (and all), thanks for your reply, I'll pass that to my students. I've using GRASS for a few years, for my research, but now that I started teaching, QGIS is the way to go. The students are loving it. (teach, it's so much easier than ArcGIS!). As for the identify features issue: Identify features: is there a way to identify one feature that's partially visible, but the layer is not selected, so I can find out to which layer it belongs? This is already possible. You need to change the behavior: Options -- MapTools -- Identify Mode -- set to top down or top down, stop at first - depending if you want to get all hits or want to stop at the first hit. You need at least QGIS 1.4 or higher. This is nice, but a little annoying if you want to change the behavior more than often. Maybe this could be a drop-down list in the results dialog? So one could change the way it works more interactively. I'll keep you guys posted about the experiences of my students. best Carlos -- Prof. Carlos Henrique Grohmann - Geologist D.Sc. [Qgis-user] some impressions from my students
Hello all. I just started teaching a class on GIS for geology undergrads. We are using ArcGIS and QGIS. My students want to share some impressions from the first two classes: Plugin install: it would be really nice to be able to select more than one plugin for install, instead of doing it one at a time (what if I want them all?) Identify features: is there a way to identify one feature that's partially visible, but the layer is not selected, so I can find out to which layer it belongs? Symbology: Although the classification works fine, changing the color for each class is painfull. Can we have color ramps or something like it? Translation: (We speak Portuguese). We noticed that in PT-BR version, for the Project Properties Dialog, Coordinate Reference System, there is a typo. it should read Sistema de Coordenadas Globais instead of Sistema de Soordenadas Globais (typed a S instead of a C). I also noticed that when it comes to CRS, we have a long list of _datums_, but not of general _projections_. So if I just want to change the projection, say from Plate Carré to Mollweide, it's not as easy as in Arc, where I can change the projection and the datum. that's it for now. As new feedback comes, I'll post it. cheers Carlos -- Prof. Carlos Henrique Grohmann - Geologist D.Sc.
