interesting to hear! So the printing limitation is caused by the
Open Layer Plugin and not by the Google WMS(?).
I hope new versions of the Open Layer Plugin will address this
problem...

 Markus

There is no Google WMS, they are static tiles. The two plugins make two
different workarounds to use them. OpenLayers Plugin is great for
display,
however I expect big problems with proper printing, so wouldn't be
optimistic...

I wonder if it's possible to use GoogleMaps in Qgis directly via GDAL
TMS
driver. I'm able to open it, but can't cope with colors: Google serves
8bit
pngs, while Qgis needs RGB. Maybe other gdal versions do it more
smoothly?

On the http://www.gdal.org/frmt_wms.html you have a link to the
OpenStreetMap
TMS Service Example:

http://www.gdal.org/frmt_wms_openstreetmap_tms.xml

Just download this file and open in Qgis as a raster. You shold see OSM
layer
with proper or bad colors ;) In order to use googlemaps instead of OSM,
replace the third line of the file with:

ServerUrlhttp://mt0.googleapis.com/vt?lyrs=m@144amp;x=${x}amp;y=${y}
amp;z=${z}/ServerUrl

After you have loaded the capabilities of your WPS you have to select a
process and click OK. A GUI should appear depending on the inputs of the

Hi Jürgen,
Thanks a lot.
Installing python-qt4-sql everything works fine.

Now I'm trying to connect to my geoserver WPS service. I am able to
connect and see the capabilities but nothing else: in the WPS plugin
form there is not place to sign the WFS layer name that I previously
catalogued as WFS layer (from postgis datastore) and load in the QGIS
ToC.

Is this procedure right?

Dear Milena,

Wroclaw sounds very nice - thanks a lot for your offer! If nobody votes
against it, we could make that fix - I think?

The only problem I see at the moment is the date. Begining of July or
even
August (school vacations) is too close I think, because we need to
organize funding, holiday, flights etc. Then comes the FOSS4G, 6.-9.
September in Barcelona and most people are probably broke after that for
a
while :). So I guess end october / beginning november as in Vienna is
most
likely.

What do others think?

Hi,

no there is at this moment no such way to use those kind of maps.
   These
kind of services are called 'Tiled Map Services', and one of the
drawbacks of these are that (without othere rescaling clientside)
   they
serve only (map tile) images for fixed scales.

We have been thinking about it at an earlier hackfest, but up
   untill now
nobody has started to work on it.

Theoretically it would be feasible: just provide some 'tile-scheme'
   to a
WMS-T/TMS/-layer and provide the service url.
Then the layer could retrieve the 'capabilities' and from that on
   maybe
the map will be frozen to only the scales provided by this Tiled
   Map
Server (?).
Map-Libraries like openlayers also have this notion of either 'free
scaling' or 'fixed scales'.

But somebody should pick up this glove :-)

Hi all,

I'd like to announce new version of PostGIS Manager - already in the
repositories (both in mine and in contributed plugins at pyqgis.org):
- shows triggers and rules, able to delete or enable/disable them
- faster GUI as it loads only content for current tab (and not all of
them as before)
- geometry processing - allows you to do area/length calculation and
(optionally) set a trigger that updates the field on inserts and
updates
- table versioning (experimental) - modifies a table so it stores all
history of the changes
- various updates and bug fixes I've incorporated from the feedback I've
got

Any feedback is welcome as usual :)

Its great that we are adding advanced features but we
should remember our 'roots' in being an easy to learn, easy to use GIS.
Part of that is achieved through keeping UI complexity to a minimum.

You are right when you say what our roots have been. But with the time the
amount of new features grows rapidly. QGIS is matured to a Desktop-GIS system
with a wide spread of potential users, with the claim from very easy to use up
to advanced user. I believe that we can satify both user groups. Disable
digitizing - as an advanced feature - will make QGIS to an easy to use
Desktop-GIS. Yes in my opinion digitizing is an advanced feature at all. Thus I
think there are no conflicts between easy to use and pull down buttons or short

For me I prefer the current arrangement - 2 toolbars. The user can elect
to hide show one if he likes. Pull down toolbar icons are IMHO very
unintuitive and require two clicks to get at every function (may as well
use a menu then). Its great that we are adding advanced features but we
should remember our 'roots' in being an easy to learn, easy to use GIS.
Part of that is achieved through keeping UI complexity to a minimum.

So -1 from me...

Still I think the separation basic editing toolbar / advanced editing
toolbar makes sense because some advanced tools are probably used less
frequently, so user should have the possibility to show/hide this
toolbar depending on his current task.

My suggestion is to hide the advanced editing toolbar by default (for
the first start of qgis) such that user interface seems less
 overcrowded for new users.

Also, I'd like to move the split feature tool to the advanced editing

 What do you think?

I'm having a funny behaviour while editing a lineshape with QGIS.

when I try to cut a line in two halfs sometimes the line is properly cut

right: -- = ---|---
wrong: -- = ---|

Would Canton of Solothurn be interested in adding this plugin (or a

In principle yes. But at the moment the SO!GIS Layer plugin is not very
generic. SO!DATA, our selfmade Meta DB, is required for running the
plugin.

[Qgis-user] QgsDataSourceURI.setConnection() error

2009-04-06 Thread Düster Horst
With PyQgis 1.1.0 I want to connect to a PostGIS layer via Python plugin
with

...
uri = QgsDataSourceURI()
uri.setConnection(self.DBHOST, self.DBPORT, self.DBNAME, self.DBUSER,
self.DBPASSWD)
...

Unfortunately QGIS throws the following Python error message:
Error:
uri.setConnection(self.DBHOST, self.DBPORT, self.DBNAME, self.DBUSER,
self.DBPASSWD)
TypeError: insufficient number of arguments to
QgsDataSourceURI.setConnection()

With respect to the class documentation setConnection() has exactly the
number of arguments I use in my Python code. Furthermore the same code
works fine with QGIS 1.0.0.

I'm a little bit confused and I appreciate any hint.

[Qgis-user] New PostGIS SQL Query Editor Plugin

2009-03-12 Thread Düster Horst
I just uploaded the new PostGIS SQL Query Editor Plugin to the QGIS
User-Contributed Python Plugin Repository. The aim of the plugin is to
edit and perform any spatial PostGIS query from an editor environment.
After successful execution of a query the result will be loaded from
shape file to MapCanvas. The plugin works provided that pgsql2shp is
installed and the path to pgsql2shp is defined in the system PATH
environment.

I hope that the plugin will be helpful for you. I'm looking forward for
any comment.

[Qgis-user] AW: [Qgis-developer] New Plugin builder

2009-02-22 Thread Düster Horst
Gary

Great work and very very helpful for plugin developement.

I found out one issue in conjunction with QT-Designer. When I open the
generated *.ui file with QT-Designer and save the file then the
UI-Classname is not set correct. P.e. when you call a class myTestClass
you will get a UI_myTestClass.ui with the corresponding class name. Open
the file with QT-Designer add a push button and save the dialog, the
dialog class is renamed in UI_Dialog but not the file of course. As the
result the plugin throws an error message class not found. To solve
the problem you have to rename the dialog inside of QT-Designer from
Dialog to your desired class name.

Betreff: [Qgis-developer] New Plugin builder

I have created a web-based tool to build a minimal QGIS Python plugin.

Basically you specify the required parameters and it creates a ready
to run plugin with an blank dialog. The tool compiles the resource and
Ui files and packages it all up into a zip file for download.

You can try the builder at: http://pyqgis.org/builder/plugin_builder.py

The zip file contains a Makefile which can be used to recompile the Ui
and resource files if you change them. The builder uses Qt 4.4,
however the generated plugin should work on any QGIS 1.0 install.

If you've been wanting to develop QGIS plugins but didn't know where
to start, this tool can get you started quickly by setting up the
structure for you.

Comments and suggestions are welcomed.

[Qgis-user] FOSSGIS Höck in Solothurn

Please excuse cross-posting

2. FOSSGIS Höck in Solothurn - Nachlese.

einladen.

I just published version 0.40 of my geoprocessing plugin at the PyQgis
plugin repository. With this plugin you will get the ability to check
your installed version vs the published repository version. I took some
code snippets from Carsons manageR plugin. The major change to Carsons
approach, I took QtXML to read the repsository XML due to segmentation
faults of minidom on my system. I don't know the reason!!

Further I catch some more exceptions to avoid the horrible python error
messages ;-). Paolo thanks for the hints.

I'll hope you will enjoy the new release.

Sometimes the mentioned error occours when the input data are non valid

Hi all.
I'm doing a short course on QGIS+GRASS in Portugal, and we're
encountering some problems [1] on win (let alone the nightmare of

Additionally, when running manageR, loading layers into R results in

Anyone has encountered these problems?
All the best.

Betreff: [Qgis-user] How to get xyz points into a Qgis map?

   Dear all,

I am working with elevation data which we have in raster format.
I started short time ago to work with Qgis and I try to get my
quality reference points which are points with XY and Z coordinates
into my Qgis map. Unfortunately until now without success. Does
anybody know how I can visualise these kind of data in Qgis? I can't
find anything about it in the user guide.

The datafile is normally just a text file with X Y Z coordinates.

   Thanks for helping d:o)
And best regards from sunny Copenhagen,

   /Gitte

[Qgis-user] Python Geoprocessing Plugin

2008-03-18 Thread Düster Horst
I've just published a new Rev. of the python geoprocessing plugin to fix
the translation problem. I tested QGIS and Plugin based on QT4.3.4 and
now translation works fine for me. QGIS hangs after canceling
fileDialogs when it was compiled with QT-4.3.3. After upgrade to
QT-4.3.4 the translation and the fileDialog works correct for me. As a
workaround I added a QT Version check to decide weather translation will
be enabled or not. For QT 4.3.3 translation is enabled. I would
appreciate when you can test the plugin against your QT installation.

Regards
Horst
