[Qgis-user] Error while loading c run time libraries

2013-09-13 Thread Gerardo Jimenez
I installed the OSGeoW qgis-dev and when I try to execute the program I have
this messhe box
Run time errorProgram c:\osgeowW64\bin\qgis-dev-bin.exeR6034An application has
made an attempt to load the c runtime library incorrectly. Please contact the
application´s support team for more information
After clicling ok on the dialog box the program starts, neverthe less I tried
to use the georefercer and the raster image that I loaded shows a gray square
with jagged colors on top.
I tried to reinstall the program and also run it as an administrator and no
luck at all

HiI was trying to test the georeferencer but when loading a jpg image this one
appears just as jagged colors at the top of a gray square. I was able to open
and georeference the image in Lisboa standallone. Running the 64bit version as
an administartor did not solve the issue.

Hi
according to this
http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/31891/does-osgeo4w-install-a-32-bit-or-64-bit-version-of-qgis
even if you installed master is istalled as a 32 bits aplication, therefore you
can not use all your RAM. Try it in a linux or Mac environment.

Subject: [Qgis-user] 3GB limit in osgeo4w's Qgis Master

Hello all,

I'm using qgis-dev (Master) from osgeo4w to obtain some landscape metrics
(LeCos plugin). I'm under Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, with 12 GB RAM, but
when running LeCos or any sextante algorithm windows gets stucked at 3 GB limit
(sometimes 3.x GB), and I have plenty of RAM (nearly 8 GB) wasted.

Is this a limitation coming from osgeo4w's 32-bit libraries?
Is it possible to use my whole RAM under Windows 7 64-bit or should I go to
GNU/Linux?

Thank you very much in advance for your insight.

Re: [Qgis-user] Proyection cuestion?

2013-07-17 Thread Gerardo Jimenez
Hi
First Qgis use a projection engine called proj4 which uses EPSG codes. The
parameters for datum change from nad27 to wgs 84 for Mexico are a little bit
wrong in qgis. This is an example of the UTM zone 14 with a nad27 datum from
qgis, it does not have a a parameter to define the datum shift (+towgs84=)
+proj=utm +zone=14 +datum=NAD27 +units=m +no_defs
This is the epsg code modified to transform between nad27 and wgs 84 for Mexico
only.
+proj=utm +zone=14 +ellps=clrk66 +towgs84=-12,130,190,0,0,0,0 +units=m +no_defs
As you can notice it does contain a parameter for the datum shift valid only
for Mexico ( +towgs84=-12,130,190,0,0,0,0) . This parameters came from various
sources, one of them:
National Imagery and Mapping Agency,2000, Departament of Defense World Geodetic
System 1984: its definition and relationships with local geodetic systems.
Arc Map uses the same parameters . Also check this
http://earth-info.nga.mil/GandG/coordsys/onlinedatum/CountryNorthAmericaTable.html#NASL
Having say that, The first thing you have to do is to define the code for the
coordinate system you want to transform, take the utm defined above as an
example. Just make sur that the code includes the "
+towgs84=-12,130,190,0,0,0,0" parameter. Then you have to include it in Quantum
as a custom coordinate reference system. To do so, go to settings/ custom crs.
All CRS you create will appear as user defined coordinate systems in the
coordinate systems selector.
For vector layer you can make the transformations (reprojection) by selecting
the layer, right click and choose save as. You have to define the kind os file
(shp, for instance) a name and location and also the new coordinate system.
For raster layers, you have to go to raster menu/ projection/warp(reproject).
Check this, I cover some basics in Qgis

Hi Tudor

Something is wrong with single_line_to_polygon layer, it's not editable.

I got the polygon from several_lines_to_polygon layer:

1. Turn this layer editable
2. Select all the lines
3. Edit --> Combine selected spatial objects
4. Save and turn off edition
5. Use Vectorial --> Geometry tools --> Lines to poligons. Use the combined
several_lines_to_polygon layer.

6. You have the polygon that you are looking for.

Good luck

Hi everyone,
It seems I have found a bug as I tried to create polygons from lines in Qgis
1.8 and 1.9 master and it doesn't work.
I have used the same data on another computer and the problem persists.
The tool works for other data sets but not on this one. I first thought it was
a data set problem but I checked for geometry &
topology errors and I couldn't find anything. Moreover, It worked in ArcGIS. I
have attached the lines shapefile data in a small zip file.
Can anyone else replicate it and maybe shade a light on it?

In order to snap to vertex in a layer you must set a tolerance setting, either

Re: [Qgis-user] convert UTM_UPS data from gps to decimal degrees

2013-03-13 Thread Gerardo Jimenez
Hi
First, your data is kind of rare, you can not have more than 60 minutes or more
than 60 seconds (50°96'06''2N for instance). How did you get this info? a gpx
file or your field notes? (usually a gps stores data in lat lon wgs84, no
matter how you configure the unit to display the data). If you want to covert
lat lon data in to utm you have to make two things. A) Convert your readings in
to decimal degrees in a spreadsheet.
You have to capture in separate columns the arguments for degrees minutes and
seconds. Then the formula will bedeg+(min/60)+(sec/3600). Keep in mind that the
formula for your longitudes must be: -1*(deg+(min/60)+(sec/3600)) since your
data is in the western hemisphere. Copy the values of the formulas in a new
file and label the first row lat lon accordingly. You can include an
identifier. Save the file as CSV comma delimited.
B1) Load the CSV file in Qgis using the "add delimited text layer" plugin.
Once the data is on the screen you have to select the layer and save is as shp
or comma separated value, that your choice. You have to choose also the
coordinate system of your choice for the new layer.
B2) Or you can also use GPS babel (free). It can read a csv file and convert it
to utm. Just check the documentation for the supported datums

WSG 84

2013/3/10 Gregorio Inda

Hi,
I am new user of Qgis, and new on GIS too. I have tried to figure out what is
the explanation for what I supposed is something that I am misunderstanding.

Using Google Earth I zoomed into a small region and captured the image using
print screen. I supposed that Google Earth CRS was WGS 84 (EPSG:4326) for that
small area (a city). Now, using Google Maps I selected four specific well and
easy referenced points into the image to get geographics coordinates (longitude
and latitude). In Qgis Raster/Georeferencer/Georeferencer I added those points
once I first added the PNG raster file in this plugin considering that CRS was
WGS 84 (EPSG:4326). I saved the points in file.png.points file. In
Transformation Setting of this plugin I left the default values, but I selected
Create world file and changed
the Target SRS to WGS 84 / UTM zone 14N (EPSG:32614). Start georeferencing
button produced a world file for PNG image.

In a new Qgis session I opened PNG file (with world file present) and Qgis
asked me what CRS I wanted to define. If I select WGS 84 / UTM zone 14N I can
see how coordinates are changing when I move the mouse over the image, but that
coordinates are geographics (longitude and latitude). If I select just WGS 84
(EPSG:4326) then I can see UTM coordinates changes when I move the mouse over
the image. But ¡I expected the opposite!

Could someone help me to understand this?

Regards
Gregorio

P.S. The CRS of the project is set to WGS 84 / UTM zone 14N (EPSG:32614)Ubuntu

Re: [Qgis-user] Advice Please

2013-01-28 Thread Gerardo Jimenez
Main thing is that QGis only allows you to use cartographic Coordinate
Reference Systems. Most of the time archaeologist (I am one) we use totally
arbitrary CRS. Once I posted a similar question and the answers were that if I
could assign a coordinate in a mapping CRS that should do it (like an UTM for
instance). Regarding on drawing systems for archaeology, I use acad, but it
does lack the attribute table and its capabilities. My advice will be some how
assign a mapping crs to your data.

Re: [Qgis-user] GPS Tools plugin

2013-01-15 Thread Gerardo Jimenez
Hi

According to the GPS Babel documentation your unit (I have the same problem
with an etrex 10 unit):

" uses GPX format, not Garmin protocol. Therefore one should
communicate with it by reading and writing GPX files instead of using
this format. Members of this class of products do not support realtime
positioning protocol"

I think this cause that you can not download your data directly in qgis. Try
to use EasyGps (a free tool). You can download the data, save as gpx and
integrate it in Qgis with GPS tools.

Hope it helps

all you need to do is run regedit (in vista and win7 as an administrator),
locate the mentioned key, select it and delete it

The hillshade value it ist not height. On another issue, If you used SRTM data,
this comes in lat lon wgs84. I wonder if you used the 20 value on the

Hi,

I am new to QGIS. The first thing I wanted to do was to create a hillshade for
the Indian subcontinent using SRTM elevation data.

The elevation map looks fine. However, the hillshade looks strage with a max
terrain value of 195 or so (it shold be 8000m). I figured out that elevation
data should be reprojected before attempting to draw hillshade. The question
is reproject to what? What should be the target SRS?

Please help.

Re: [Qgis-user] Change reference system (SRS)

2012-09-12 Thread Gerardo Jimenez
You can do two things

a) Transform (reproject) either 4326 to 32718 or 32718 t 4326. Load, for
instance, a layer in 4326, make sure that you set the project crs from the
layer (this is both the layer and the project must be in the same crs). To do
this, after loading the layer, just select it right click and select "set
project crs from layer). Chose it again and select save as. Now define a new
name and for the destination crs choose 32718. This procedure will reproject
from 4326 to 32718

b) Load a layer, set the proper crs for the project (as described above). Then
go to settings/project properties, and make sure that "on the fly
transformation" is enabled. Now load a layer in a differen crs from the first
one loaded. Q gis will ask you to define the crs of the layer. Choose it. Bot
layer must show in the display.

You can go either way, I personally prefer to have all my layers on the same
crs, but that is me..

Hope it helps

Re: [Qgis-user] Ftools and MMqgis behave differently

2012-08-30 Thread Gerardo Jimenez
Hi Nick! Thanks for your time in this.
I do the following
1. I load poitsccl shape file. CRS is Lambert conformal conic for México. Q
gis recognizes it as a custom CRS. I enable on the fly crs transformation2. I
load MMqgis and Mqgis2 shape files. These are the ones created with MMqgis.
Both are latlon with grs80 datum (Itry to play with INEGI's rules, ITRF CRS)3.
I load Testgrid and testgrid2 shapes. These are the ones created with ftools.
Both are latlon with grs 80 datum
I notice that the ones created with ftools are straight lines on the limits
that you define not the interval ones. This is to say, for instance, if you
want to make a grid with 2 degrees of longitude and 1 of latitutude as the
limits with intervals each 15 minutes, Ftools creates meridians of 2 degrees
separated by 15 miutes each one. Paralels the same.
MMqgis does create segments of 15 minutes and finishes them at the limits you
define. I notice this, if, for instance, you densify the lines with a 100 new
nodes, the ftools layers will crate 100 new nodes only. In the layers created
with mmqgis, densify will create 100 nodes each 15 minutes. This is why I
think it is better to use the mmqgis grids.
I think the way f tools creates the features makes all the diference.

Thanks for your time Nick!

[Qgis-user] Ftools and MMqgis behave differently

2012-08-29 Thread Gerardo Jimenez
I made an experiment trying to follow this (http://www.surfaces.co.il/?p=616).
I used the suggested ftools option to create the vector grid. I also made a
grid using mmqgis, and just to be safe a point layer as csv. Grids are in lat
lon. Points were reprojected to a custom lcc CRS (INEGI´s parameters).I loaded
the Ponints in ccl, defined that I wanted on the fly reprojection in the
project and these are the problems:

1)Vector grid created with ftools just touch the points at the corners

2)MMqgis grid touch the points

I wonder why is this happening, grid layers were created using the same
interval (15 minutes). Following a suggestion in Stackexchange (see
http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/32353/how-to-display-both-scalebar-in-kilometers-and-grid-in-lat-long-degrees-in-quant/32359#comment43534_32359)
I used the densify tool in ftools. I have the same result. The layer created
with ftools is closer but do not touch the the points.

Here you can see the problems as images
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/42543948/problem1.zip

here is the data http://dl.dropbox.com/u/42543948/Grids.zip

Thanks for any hint. I am using Qgis 1.8, standallone installer, win7 64bits,
8gb of ram

[Qgis-user] Stand allone and Osgeo install in a Win 64 environment

2012-08-21 Thread Gerardo Jimenez
This is a rookie question, When you install Qgis via the standallone installer
in a win64 environment, it does install a 32 bit version of Qgis. If you
install it via OSgeo Does it install a 64bit version of Qgis?

Re: [Qgis-user] Snapping

2012-07-23 Thread Gerardo Jimenez

That depends on what you want to do.

Points do not have any snapping options

Lines and polygon do have snapping options. You can access them in the settings
menu and snapping options (opciones de autoensamblado in spanish...). You can
set the snapping to your crs measuring units or pixels. I usually set to 15
pixels, but that is me. For lines and polygons you can also set "enable
topological editing" . Also for polygons you can set "avoiding intersections of
new polygons". For a tutorial that uses the snapping options check

http://www.youtube.com/user/Arqueovader

Specially videos 3 and 4, ther are in spanish...

Hope it helps

[Qgis-user] QGis 1.8 crashes with 1.7xx projects

2012-07-03 Thread Gerardo Jimenez

Hi

I have a project that I made in Qgis standalone 1.74. When I try to load it
in1.8 it just simply crashes. The project has

DEM
Shaded Relief
Contours (Shp)
Points CSV
Layout

The problem happens in Win7 32 and 64bits and Ubuntu 12. I made an experiment
and save the project in 1.73 without the csv layer and 1.8 has no problem
opening it. As soon as I have a csv layer in the 1.7x project 1.8 crashes.
Anyone has the same problem as me? Is this a bug?

Thanks before hand

I was just looking at your project in ubuntu. I was able to open it and see
everything with not a problem. I noticed that you have a google hybrid layer as
background. Could this be the problem? In ubuntu I was able to install the open

Hi

a) I am unable to load the NegrodeChorrillosGoogleSimple.qgs file. I have a
"bad allocation" error.

b) I can manually load sitios.shp (2 points), Negro_de_chorrillos. shp and
Negro_de_chorrilloswgs84lonlat.shp.

c) PuntosNegroChorrillo.shp does load but does not show anything. I look at the
attribute table and there is nothing there.

d) I can manually load the negroChorrilloETMpuntos.jpg raster, nevertheless I
have negative coordinates, which are not lat lon (-7395853,-2790190 for
instance) .

Does this helps? I was working wit a 1.4gb DEM and a 700mb shaded relief model
with no problems to load layers individually or as a project

[Qgis-user] Problem with Ubuntu 12

2012-06-12 Thread Gerardo Jimenez

I upgraded from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04. I uninstalled Qgis 1.74 before the
upgrade. I defined the variables to install master in 12.04. When I try to load
it I have the splash screen, then nothing. If I have another window open (like
a web browser) and I close it Q gis does appear. I suspect that I have some
leftovers from my previous installation. So I wonder if somebody can tell me
what to do in order not to open firefox before launching Qgis (obviously I am a
linux newbie). By the way, Master behaves correctly in a fresh installation of
ubuntu 12 in virtual box.

Thanks before hand

[Qgis-user] (no subject)

2012-05-23 Thread Gerardo Jimenez

Hi
I am facing something weird with the interpolation plug-in:
I was trying to interpolate a contour shape with Tin interpolation as points.
When I tried to do it in 64 bits Os'es (win 7 and Vista both with 8gb of RAM,
Qgis 1.74 stand allone installer) the process hangs up at 27% of the
triangulation process. I do not have any kind of screen error or similar
feedback, just Qgis hanging up. I tried running Qgis as an administrator, No
luck at all.
I tried in my laptop with win 7 32 bits and in 20 different computers with the
same OS (I was teaching how to use this tool) and Qgis finished the
interpolation!!
In all the machines I used the same file with the same parameters (32 and 64
bits os), shape is about 80 mb. All machines have same version of Qgis...
I would appreciate any hint on what is going on.
Thanks before hand

[Qgis-user] Windows 8 experiences

2012-03-05 Thread Gerardo Jimenez

In the hype of the upcoming release of Windows 8 I though it would be helpful
to have feedback about QGis in this OS environment. I am happy to tell any
interested that I was able to install the standalone version in Win8 running in
virtual box
So far I have not experienced any problem. Working with Gdal and doing some
basic procedures showed no problem.

RE: [Qgis-user] Slope and area/length calculations with Geographic CRS

2012-01-11 Thread Gerardo Jimenez

Try working with specific value for the latitude you are working. Check this

http://www.csgnetwork.com/degreelenllavcalc.html

As I understand Gdal uses the lenght of a degree of latitude in meters of feet,
so this can help to solve the problem.

Thanks! it is working well.

For feet it seems that slope is less on each pixel with the scale value 370400
so we can increase the value and check again,
but for meters with scale value of 20, it is working well and equal to the
slope found with Projected CRS on each pixel.

Thanks Again!

Respected All,

When we have to calculate area/length in polygon/line vector layers we have to
convert Geographic CRS of the layer in Projected CRS, and in raster DEM for
slope calculations the same is to be done.

I am providing continuous free practical trainings to the Government officials

area/length in vector and slope etc. in DEM with geographic coordinate system.

RE: [Qgis-user] Hi everybody

2011-12-28 Thread Gerardo Jimenez

It is not about just changing the prj (as I understand your last mail). You
have to choices, using on the fly transformation an reprojecting. When you use
on the fly transformation you data doe not change, data with different crs are
displayed as if they did not have different crs. On the other hand reprojecting
means transforming data form one crs to another. For instance transforming from
lat lon data (coordinates in degrees) to another crs that defines the units
(among other parameters) in meters. As I posted before:
"if you want all your layers in the same crs you have to reproject your data.
This is easy, load a layer, select it and choose save as, there you have to
define a new name and the crs of your choice. One thing, in order that the
reprojection could succeed both the project and the layer must have the same
crs (see my previous post)"
What about reprojecting the layer in degrees? Can you share de data to see what
is going on? In my computer I am able to reproject and to use on the fly
transformation

The situation doesn't change whatever .prj file you put in each layer. The
problem is even the same: Qgis reads the extension of 4 layers in meters and
reads the extension of one layer in degrees. Thanx

If you have a shape file it should have also a *.prj file. This file defines
the projection of your layer. By default, Qgis assumes that your data is a lat
lon wgs84 and coordinate units degrees. If you have your *.prj file try this

Open QGis, load the layer select it and choose set project crs from layer
If that does not do the trick try opening the prj file in a text editor and try

example: xMin, yMin 1714882.75,4845790.12 : xMax,yMax 1735233.69,4861856.86.

Unfortunally I've got a layer with the spatial extension defined in degrees:
xMin, yMin 10.94,43.7388 : xMax,yMax 11.7543,43.9773, and I can't visualize it
in the correct location. How can I change the extension of the files from
degrees to meters and viceversa? Thank you very much and sorry for my english

Go to Vector/Geometry tools/Lines to polygons. There is also a plugin

begin/end on common nodes

RE: [Qgis-user] problems with layers from one source

2011-12-21 Thread Gerardo Jimenez

Hi

You have

a layer in transverse mercator NAD83 / Illinois East (ftUS) (wards) (EPSG:3435)
Census are in Nad83 lat lon (EPSG:4269) (For testing purposes I downloaded all
Illinois data not only Chicago)

I was able to reproject from 4269 to 3435 and they align perfectly. I noticed,
for instance, that on North Lake shore drive, there is something called
Magnificent Mile. Both layers share the feature and show it in the same
position. This is what how I did it

a) Load the census data (epsg 4269)
b) Select the layer and choose "set project crs from layer". Make sure that te
lower right corner says "EPSG 4269". This step is crucial. By default Qgis
asummes that you are working on a lat lon WGS84 CRS, so before making a
reprojection you have to have the proper CRS in the layer and in the project.
c) Select the layer and choose save as
d) On format, leave esri shape file
on Save as, give a name that you can recognize
on CRS choose the browse button and in the Projected coordinate Systems
sections navigate to transverse mercator, NAD83 / Illinois East (ftUS) and
choose it.
e) Choose OK
f) Define a new project and load both 3435 layers they should align. Look for
the feature I mentioned before.

You can do the opposite from 3435 to 4269 the same way I described.

Hope it helps

I am sorry to differ. They can not be in the same CRS. A latitutude longitude
CRS has valus for longitud +- 180 and for latitude +- 90 Degrees. A crs such as
a UTM (for instance) could have values in the 10,000 to less than a million for
the east, and northings could have values from 0 to almost 10,000,000. Then,
your data could not share crs. If you change the crs in
propertied/general/specify crs that aill not make any difference and could make
the problems worst since, for instance, if your data is in the west hemisphere
and you load data from a utm layer
as a latitude longitue crs , any GIS (not only qgis)all will be displace the
layers, since utm do not handle negative values. In order that data could be in
the same crs you have to reproject your data. Reprojecting converts from one
crs to another totally different (from espherical coordinates to metric ones).
For vector layers in qgis 1.7 you have the layer and chose save as, define the
file format, choose the original crs and the one you want. For raster layers
you have to go to raster/projections/war(reproject). In order to reproject, I
insist, you must know the original crs of your data.
Can you let us know where your data is located? also if you know the crs? also
sometimes it is worth to know which version of Qgis you are using and in which
OS you are using...

[Qgis-user] Scale bar problem

2011-11-23 Thread Gerardo Jimenez

This problem is new to me, It did not happened in Quantum Gis 1.71

I
loaded a couple of raster images in EPSG 32614. I Checked the layer
properties/General Tab and I can read that the CRS information is
correct. When I change the project properties/CRS tab and change from
EPSG 4326 to 32614, the scale bar do not change and shows 60,000
degrees. The same when I change the properties using the globe Icon in
the lower right corner. I tried loading a vector layer with the same crs
 (32614) and the same.

I checked my OS regional settings and they
are comma as thousands separator and point as decimal separator. I am
using Qgis 1.72 standallone on win732bits 4gb of RAM. I tested the same
set of data in XP and in ubuntu 11.10 and all the show the same problem

I have a Laptop with win732b 3gb of RAM and Qgis 1.71 and I do not see any
problem

Any help is welcome

When reprojecting either a vector or a raster layer problems could arise if the

Subject: [Qgis-user] Error when reprojecting a raster in QGIS

Dear all,
I get an error when trying to warp a tif file in QGIS:

ERROR 1: Too many points (35721 out of 35721) failed to transform, unable to
compute output bounds.

I am using QGIS 1.7.0 Wroclaw with gdal 1.8. I am trying to warp
from ETRS89 to HD72 EOV. There was an error in the data, with the UTM
zone added to the eastings. That is, the x coordinates read 34327213.050
when they should read 327213.050 in UTM zone 34N. I have tried changing
the .tfw file but this did not help. Then I translated the tif to a
.vrt and edited the vrt, removing the rogue 34, and fixing the extent.
This also did not help - I still get the same error when I try to warp from the
vrt, or using a tif translated form the new vrt.
In layer properties, this new raster now has the same origin, extent and SRS
as other similar (no error) rasters, but only this one gives the error.

How do I work this out? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Rod

Hi
This may help you but it is a solution outside qgis. Try GpsBabel. You can
define the grid and datum for the conversion. When you export to "universal csv
with field structure on the first line" it honors the grid and datum of your
choice. Gps babel is free, also!!

RE: [Qgis-user] Using more SRS

It is possible to display a graticule if and only if your CRS is lat lon and
their units are some flavor of degrees. If your CRS is in meter, which is the
case with proj 4 robinson parameters, It is not possible. Would be nice to have
the option that once you have a CRS you can get a graticule, or measuring grid
or both...right now is only the a grid that honors your CRS measuring
unitsI do not know if using the built in GRASS it could be possible, hope
some one knows...

still orthogonal, wich i suppose is wrong with Robinson projection.

Hi, thanks to your hints i managed to define Robinson projection. However, i
found several errors/bugs/my own mistakes:
1) I took projection definiton at
http://spatialreference.org/ref/esri/54030/proj4/ as i said earlier

2) I tried to test it in QGIS, e. g. I took coordinates generated at
spatialreference.org, put them into QGIS and pushed Test button. The results i
got were not equal to these obtained at spatialreference. (Comparison:
SpatialReference output coordinates -929882.962919, -150401.172846 X QGIS Test
coordinates -1052809,8856, -132264,0035).

3) Even though I pushed ok and let QGIS do the transformation using 50 milion
country shapefile from NaturalEarth. Now the messy thing comes up: I got
projection defined with meter units and when i overview the whole shapefile,
the scale field says 1:1045, which means the whole world fits my screen and it
is only 1045 times smaller than it actually is.

I suppose there is something wrong, isn't it?

Glad to hear it works. I hit the grid wall in print composer to. Technically is
not a graticule, since the projection units are meters, and composer will
display the grid, and scale in the projection units. It would be interesting
that Qgis could show a graticule or a measure grid. Right now you can only have
a measure grid that display the projection units

RE: [Qgis-user] how to edit .gpx

2011-10-27 Thread Gerardo Jimenez

Easy GPS won't do what you want. In qgis you will loose all the info you want.
A way around this is to use GPS BABel, (free also). You want it it read your
gpx and produce a "universal csv with field structure on the first line" file.
Remember to assign the csv extension. If you load the csv file in your
spreadsheet you will have the coordinates for each point of the track, and for
those saved, you will have the time and date stamps. You can edit them in the
spreadsheet or load it in q gis with the "add delimited text layer plugin. You
will have points and after that you can create a line layer set the proper
snapping options and trace the line you want.
It is just an idea..hope it helps

Thanks. What I actually want to do is delete several hundred points from a
track to clean it up when the gps lost its signal for a while and zigzagged
about etc, the points to be deleted are rather scatted along the track so its
not possible other than graphically on screen with a georeferenced background.
I had previously tried this editing several times in qgis (with suitable google
background) using kml and shapefile formats after converting from gpx but in
each case some of the information such as date/time was lost from the resulting
kml or shapefile. From: Gerardo Jimenez [mailto:gej...@hotmail.com]

Subject: RE: [Qgis-user] how to edit .gpx The add button (plus icon) allows you
to insert new waypoints. The route icon allows you to define a route based on
way points. You can select a way point , track or route on the screen or in the
list that appears on the left side. You cans select either a waypoint, a route
or track and delete them. You can select a way point and edit its coordinates.
Once your edits are finished you can save them as the same or new gpx. Having
that gpx you can:

a) Load it to your gps unit.

b)load it in to QGIS and save either the routes, tracks or way points as shape
files. Once they are a shape fiel you can edit them. To edit a shape just
select it and togle to edit mode (ble pen icon) which allows you to move
nodes, create new nodes or points. That depend on what exactly what you want to
do.

Hope it helps

RE: [Qgis-user] how to edit .gpx

2011-10-26 Thread Gerardo Jimenez

The add button (plus icon) allows you to insert new waypoints. The route icon
allows you to define a route based on way points. You can select a way point ,
track or route on the screen or in the list that appears on the left side. You
cans select either a waypoint, a route or track and delete them. You can select
a way point and edit its coordinates. Once your edits are finished you can save
them as the same or new gpx. Having that gpx you can:

a) Load it to your gps unit.

b)load it in to QGIS and save either the routes, tracks or way points as shape
files. Once they are a shape fiel you can edit them. To edit a shape just
select it and togle to edit mode (ble pen icon) which allows you to move
nodes, create new nodes or points. That depend on what exactly what you want to
do.

Hope it helps

RE: [Qgis-user] Shaded Relief: Memory Error on Windows OS

2011-10-23 Thread Gerardo Jimenez

Yes, Gdaltools includes a DEM (terrain models) option. You can find it at
raster/dem. When you are working with the hillshading option remember to set th
proper scale factor. If you are working with lat lon models
and your elevation is in meters , you have to set the scale( ratio of..) to
20. If your coordinates units and elevations have the same measuring unit,
in meters, scale factor is 1.

I prefer to us e Gdaltools because it can handle really large data sets with
out a problem. For instance recentlye I produced a model of 2 degrees by 2
degrees and it did was not a problem for Qgis. I tried a doing just a 1 by 2
degrees with shaded relief plugin and.. your memory error appears.

Hope it helps

[Qgis-user] Problem defining a custom crs

2011-10-22 Thread Gerardo Jimenez

Hello

I am facing a problem with the definition of custom CRS. Each time that I try
to do it, even if I click on the star button, nothing happens. I can type my
settings (Lambert conformal conic for Mexico) but I am not able to save it. I
am able to test my settings but not save them, then, I am unable to use it.

This happens in a machine that faced an installation problem with the
standallone installer under win 7 64 bits (error 1935 when installing c
libraries). I followed

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9214

and installed copying another´s computer installation, copying the folder in
the same location and making the qgis.bat shortcut in the desktop. In general
QGis works well, but we faced that glitch yesterday.

In another machine with win732bits I was able to make the whole procedure and
check my settings with an external shape already in ccl for Mexico and works
perfectly.

Any thoughts and ideas very very welcome

RE: [Qgis-user] Snapping options logic

2011-10-22 Thread Gerardo Jimenez

Hi the logic behind it is to create an overlap that covers your common border.
This overlap must include the "initial" and "ending" node of the common border.
If you do not do so you will receive the error message.

look at the pictures at the end of this thread, and notice the way the overlaps
are digitized.

Subject: [Qgis-user] Snapping options logic

HiI am having a bit of trouble understanding the logic behind when I get an
error message or not when I set snapping options.
I have taken the following steps:Create New Raster Layer
Create new Shapefile layer 01 (Polygon)Set snapping options for Shapefile
to:Mode: to vertexTolerance:15Units: pixelsAvoid Int: Checked

Draw some vectors and get intersections working. ( very cool feature ! )
Create new Shapefile layer 02 (Polygon)toggle edit mode for layer 01select new
Shapefile layer and toggle edit mode
draw a triangle
Now I get an error message:The feature could not be added because removing the
polygon intersections would change the geometry type.
So I thought it might have to do with the snapping settings so I set the
snapping settings for layer02 the be the same as layer01.

Draw triangle still get the same error.
Uncheck the Avoid Int checkbox for layer01
Draw Triangle, no error message.
I don't understand why that would cause the error message to go away. Is avoid
intersections not supposed to be limited to a specific layer?

Hi,
Moving this over to the user list, which is probably a better place for it.
My guess would be that under Options -> Snapping you have enable topological
editing selected.
I could easily be wrong.

[Qgis-user] Problem installing qgis 1.7

2011-09-07 Thread Gerardo Jimenez

I tried to install in another machine standalone qgis 1.7. I downloaded both
the installer and the check sums. All was ok, nevertheless, the installer hangs
at visual c 2005 libraries with error 1935. This has been happening in machines
with win 7 32 bits installed. I tried to install visual basic libraries first
but no luck at all also. What I was succesfull at is to "uninstall" qgis (it
appeared in cc cleaner and revo uninstaller) and install v1.6.

I appreciate any idea

[Qgis-user] Problem reprojecting a SHP

2011-06-04 Thread Gerardo Jimenez

Hi
I have a dxf data whose coordinates are in UTM Nad27 zone 14q (14N for any
GIS). I reproject the data to UTM WGS 84 either with vector tools or save as
options and data I have from a GPS do not match my vector layer. I posted this
also in the forum and followed the advise of building a KML from my original
data. Same thing. I made an experiment, same dxf, exported to shape, define
UTM nad27 projection, and reproject to UTMwgs84 and build a kmz in ArcMap. QGis
and ArcMap Nad 27 data do match perfectly. The wgs84 data from QGIS and Arc Map
differ about 80 meters (considerably if you want to use a vector layer
displaying the streets of an entire city the size of Mexico City). The kmz from
arcmap looks better in Google earth (streets do match better, not perfectly but
better, the sat image) the the kml produced by QGis. So I wonder if anybody
knows if I am doing something wrong or if the projection tools available in
Qgis are working well.
For those interested I Include the experiment in the following file
