Re: [Qgis-user] MacOS installation: GSL?

2015-01-29 Thread Lars Huttar

Thanks, Junior and William.
I ended up installing GSL separately just in case. (And I made sure I
already had MatPlotLib.) But it's good to know that, at least in the
mailing list archives, we've straightened out the fact that as of 2.6,
it's not necessary to install GSL separately.

Incidentally, when I ran the QGIS installer, it told me that SQLite 3
was a missing requirement, and wouldn't continue the installation.

So I installed SQLite 3, after which the QGIS installer worked fine.

So I guess SQLite 3 should be added to the requirements on both of the
web pages mentioned below? So the list should be:

- GDAL Complete
- SQLite 3
- MatPlotLib

Another nice bit of info to have somewhere would be, how do I tell what
I already have installed? E.g. last night before I installed GDAL
Complete (having installed QGIS 2.4 and GDAL in the past), I had
/Library/Frameworks/GDAL.framework, and I wasn't sure if that was GDAL
Complete or just GDAL. So I installed GDAL Complete; but it apparently
installed in the same folder. And the
/Library/Frameworks/GDAL.framework/Versions directory still has the same
contents as before: 1.11 and Current (which is a symlink to 1.11). So
how do I know whether I have GDAL Complete? And similarly for the other
requirements.

Thanks for all your contributions to make QGIS available and usable for
the masses!

Hi,
I looked at the installation notes for Mac OS X at
https://www.qgis.org/en/site/forusers/download.html, where it says
This version requires separate installation of dependency frameworks (GDAL Complete
and GSL) , also found at the download link below.
The link below is http://www.kyngchaos.com/software/qgis
But on that page, I find no mention of GSL, only GDAL. (I figured out that GSL
refers to the GNU Scientific Library, FWIW.)

One other requirement is listed on the kyngchaos.com web site (and not on the
QGIS.org download page): the MatPlotLib python module.

So I'm confused ... do I really need to install GSL separately, and if so,
where can I find an installer for Mac OS X?
And is the kyngchaos.com web page in error, or is the GQIS.org download page
out of date?

The previous version of QGIS that I have installed, v2.4, seems to have GSL
inside it:
/Applications/QGIS.app/Contents/Frameworks/GSL.framework

Thanks,
Lars

Re: [Qgis-user] MacOS installation: GSL?

2015-01-29 Thread Lars Huttar
The QGIS package I downloaded was
http://www.kyngchaos.com/files/software/qgis/QGIS-2.6.1-2.dmg

which I thought was the most recent version.
I no longer have the GDAL Complete URL in my browser to verify what I
downloaded, but the dmg file is called GDAL_Complete-1.11.dmg, and it's
dated Dec. 7, 2014.
It's possible that I tried to install things in a different order than I
was supposed to, but I don't think so.

Get Info on the Frameworks/GDAL.framework folder gives me GDAL/OGR
1.11.1-2 for the Version. That's helpful, but I still don't know how to
determine whether I have GDAL complete or incomplete (other than the
fact that I happen to remember downloading and installing GDAL Complete
last night, and I still have the dmg lying around). I searched under
Frameworks/GDAL.framework for a readme, but didn't find one.

Lars

SQLite3 is NOT needed separately. Are you sure you downloaded the
most recent GDAL Complete and QGIS? There was a change in December in
SQLite3 (part of GDAL Complete) that required a rebuild of QGIS. So
if you have an old copy of one and new other, they won't work
together. QGIS and GDAL versions did not change, just the builds, so
it may be confusing.

GDAL Complete is a collection of frameworks, what's needed for GDAL
to function. The frameworks are listed in the readme: GDAL, PROJ,
GEOS, SQLite3, UnixImageIO, plust the NumPy Python module. Other
than the major GDAL version, I only version the whole package by date
in the readme, since any of the bits can change. Get Info on the
frameworks to see which of each version is installed.
