Alex, Is your installer script online somewhere, so that some of us could try updating it possibly with the OSGeo4w binaries? I put all in ..\branches\Release-1_0_0\ms-windows But it is made for the MSYS build, you must modify the NSI and the batch script to adapt the it to the OSGEO4W build. RE: [Qgis-user] Win binry w/o osgeo4w ?
Hi, Our win packer seems to have reverted to Real Life (TM) and until we find a substitute I am afraid the work around will be needed. Hehe... things are even harder in the Real Life :) I'm really afraid about that, but I'm actually suffocated by the laboratory needs (aka: deadlines to respect to not losing funds...). Next week I'll be in Austria for a convention, then, when I'll be back, I'll ask my pricipal to give me some days off (maybe quite-off or less-suffocated) to let me complete some unfinished tasks in my long To-Do list (you're not the ones...); I really hope this could happen soon... Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS 1.0 preview packaged?
Hi Agustin, If I install Process Monitor, what should I do in order to record information I could send you? Launch Process Monitor (PM) and start to familiarize with it. The application records (mostly) any process action in the system. With the filter tool inside PM filter the processes recorded and show only the processes from qgis.exe (if I remember right, just select the not qgis processes, right click and select exclude); read the recorded values and look for failed (or similar) in the results column. Good luck ;) Marco ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user

Hi Tim, Oh sorry I never watched this thread - will upload asap. Thanks for sorting that out. no problem at all PS the path contents/plugins is a bit odd (cant remember why I set to that) and I think putting it under plugins/imageformats is better (for next release or whatever). the new binary release (0.11.0-2) is already set with the qt imageformats dlls into qgis You can submit any patch you needed to me and I will apply it to trunk. actually I did do anything in main.cpp to let it work, I just modified the packager script to let it put the qt dlls into /plugins/imageformats ...but I suppose that changing /contents/plugins to /plugins/imageformats would be good too Regards, Marco ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS Windows build fails to load WMS with format image/jpeg
Hi Tim, Hope you had a nice holiday :-) yes, thanks :-) You wouldnt see any problems with dep walker sinve qt image support for jpeg is via plugins. Also on your dev system you probably wont see an issue since Qt will find the plugins in the Qt dir. oh, yes, what a stupid I am! I forgot to test it renaming the DevTools folder, as I'm used to! In fact, I did it, and the WMS loader (after connecting to the server) shows only the PNG option If you check main.cpp under src/app you will see the seaerch path used for qt image plugins. Copy the image plugins from qtdir/plugins/imageformats/* into the qgis dir using the expected subdir Using Process Monitor I noticed the following failings: C:\DEVTOOLS\QT-OPENSOURCE\PLUGINS\IMAGEFORMATS\QGIF4.DLL C:\DEVTOOLS\QT-OPENSOURCE\PLUGINS\IMAGEFORMATS\QICO4.DLL C:\DEVTOOLS\QT-OPENSOURCE\PLUGINS\IMAGEFORMATS\QJPEG4.DLL C:\DEVTOOLS\QT-OPENSOURCE\PLUGINS\IMAGEFORMATS\QMNG4.DLL C:\DEVTOOLS\QT-OPENSOURCE\PLUGINS\IMAGEFORMATS\QSVG4.DLL C:\DEVTOOLS\QT-OPENSOURCE\PLUGINS\IMAGEFORMATS\QTIFF4.DLL I think I should put them in the qgis/plugins, right? I opened the cpp file and rapidly read it (I'm very short in times, sorry): at lines 535-536 I read: myPath += /Contents/plugins; QCoreApplication::addLibraryPath( myPath ); Should I create a qgis/Contents/plugins dir, or the qgis/plugins is enough? Then, I also found the following failings (detected by Process Manager but not from DepWalker): C:\DevTools\Qt-OpenSource\bin\wintab32.dll C:\DevTools\Qt-OpenSource\bin\ssleay32.dll I do know nothing about wintab32.dll, while ssleay32.dll is the OpenSSL driver... but either PgSQL nor SQLite have been compiled with the OpenSSL support Should I add them though? in the qgis root? at lines 537-539 of the main.cpp I read as follows: //next two lines should not be needed, testing only //QCoreApplication::addLibraryPath( myPath + /imageformats ); //QCoreApplication::addLibraryPath( myPath + /sqldrivers ); interesting... but not actually compiled! (commented text). suggestions? Finally: do you prefer a patch or a new binary release to fix that? Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS Windows build fails to load WMS with formatimage/jpeg
Hi Andreas, I have a strange problem that my QGIS Windows build (Metis) doesn't support the display of image/jpeg with WMS. It works fine in Linux, but not in Windows. I only get image/png as a choice, although the GetCapabilities output of the WMS shows support for gif/jpeg/png/tiff. It's strange, because I compiled both latest GRASS and QGIS releases with jpeg support enabled. I made some tests loading WMF layers, and it works fine. I loaded a DM Solutions GMap layer selecting the JPEG coding as showed here: http://www.webalice.it/marco.pasetti/qgis/Immagine01.png and it has been showed correctly (http://www.webalice.it/marco.pasetti/qgis/Immagine02.png) ...or probably I'm missing something, I'm actually not used to work with WMS layers... Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS Windows build fails to load WMS with format image/jpeg
Hi Tim, what as rude awakening after 15 days of holidays :-) ... more that 800 mails to read and a lot of work to do! but the show must go on ! :) I think this is just a packaging bug in that the qt jpeg drivers probably arent packaged properly / at all. Marco Pasetti would be the guy to go to on this. I don't think so. The specific qt jpeg library (as gif or png and others) is not needed in the package. I checked it out first with Dependency Walker and then tracked the specific WMS process with Process Manager: no erros found! I think it's a different problem. BTW it seems to work for me: http://www.webalice.it/marco.pasetti/qgis/Immagine01.png http://www.webalice.it/marco.pasetti/qgis/Immagine02.png Cheers, Marco ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user
Re: [Qgis-user] printing with metis?
Hi all, in the print-composer you have to press add a new map, then draw a square with your mouse on the canvas in the size you want to have the active view in the map-composer displayed and then press the button add a new map again. as I pointed out some time ago (see http://trac.osgeo.org/qgis/ticket/1092), the Map Composer is not actually very intuitive; the bug reported in #1092 is very similar to the Tara's one, and in fact it's not a bug (because the Map Composer works fine), but it's due to a not intuitive usage of the tool; that's what I suggested replying to #1092: The only things that we should probably add [to the Map Composer Tool] are: 1. let user resize the objects using the mouse pointer (such as in AutoCAD layout composer) 2. show an info label function on-mouse-over the objects, showing out their names (such as Map1, and so on...); it would be very useful if you are creating a map layout with multiple map tiles I don't know what Marco is doing with the new Map Composer; but I think that we (he) should take in mind that the usability is the firt real problem for the actual Map Composer Tool, and we should first fix that problem before to add new features to the new tool to come Regards, Marco ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user
Re: [Qgis-user] printing with metis?
Hi Micha, In my opinion, lack of features is the main issue. We can live with the usability. What's needed, in addition to what you mentioned above, are: 1- North arrows 2- better looking scale bar 3- Grids and graticules (!) I don't see how I could not agree :) Marco ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user

Getting Started (SIP, PYQT,PYRCC confusions) Hey folks, I want to create plugins for Q GIS and I am completely lost. I am running python 25 on a windows box. I have cygwin mingw components installed under cygwin. Distutils pointing cygwin/mingw for compiling python extensions (http://boodebr.org/main/python/build-windows-extensions#CFG_DISTUTILS) I have been going between a bunch of sites to try and figure out how to get started. The python stuff is no problem. I want to get the plugin into Qgis. My understanding is that I need to comppile some resources against pyrcc (http://wiki.qgis.org/qgiswiki/DevelopingPluginsWithPython) So I try finding it in the qgis install and it is not there. Next I learn that pyrcc is part of the QT stack. So I go to learn how to install pyQT stuff (http://wiki.python.org/moin/PyQt) I go to Pyqt4 site and get the packages. I can't find binaries so I try to build form source. Of course this leads me to SIP extensions, again that I need to build from source cause I can not find windows binaries. Am I going in the right direction or have I missed the simple approach? I like simple. So now I am in cygwin trying to do Python Configure.py -p cygwin-g++; make; make install For the SIP package. The build fails of course. I then try PyQt, which fails cause it is missing SIP dependencies. So do I need to start with the SIP mailing list, then the Pyqt mailing list and then finaly try a small hello world plugin. IMHO if this is what I need to do, this is a big barrier to potential plugin developers. With applications like OpenEV I need only create a python script and run it to make a GIS plugin. I have not tried this on my linux box as it is proving to polute my winbox system. I like a lean linux box without all this overhead and compiling of binaries that will get hidden. WINDOWS BINARIES WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE. Or maybe we just need less windows boxes... In fact a QGIS plugin kit that gives you EVERYTHING would be ideal.
