[Qgis-user] Subdivision (sections to quarter sections)

2015-03-24 Thread Ross Easterling
Greetings!
I have a land survey,  from the Texas State Land Commission,  that has
rectangular sections that are all over 640 acres.
I would like to make a subdivision on some of those sections i.e.  NE4, W2.
I'd like the quarter sections, or subdivisions, to be visible and have
attributes after I make them.

I really don't know where to start.
Ross

[Qgis-user] Open layers Print composer output

2014-06-08 Thread Ross Easterling
Hi!

I'm using google satellite as a layer with open layers.  It looks great!  How
cool! But, the PDF outputs of my map compositions is certainly not wiziwig.
The images are quite crisp but I have no idea where those places are.  I don't
even think the output is in the state I'm working in!

Could I be doing something wrong?

I'm using Open Layers plugin, Windows 7, QGIS Dufour

I was able to recover an older version of the file with my SugarSync account.
I've had the service for years and have never had to use it.
Thanks Alex M

I think I’m getting close on this….

I’ve downloaded a symbol set from Blackbeard Data Services:
http://blackbearddata.com/symbols

They are SVG
files.  I’ve unzipped them and put them
in the following directory:
C:\Program Files\QGIS Dufour\apps\qgis\svg\QGIS_Petro_SVG_Symbols

I’m following the directions given at: http://blackbearddata.com/symbols
regarding these symbols.  Under the “Options”
window the directions say select “Rendering” and then to add a SVG path.

I do not see the SVG path button or window in QGIS Dufore.

I’ve added the symbol set using the Style Manage but the
symbols do not scale.

So the question is:  ¿How do I add a SVG path to this symbol set?

[Qgis-user] ArcGIS Layer File

2014-03-25 Thread Ross Easterling
ArcGIS Layer File

I’ve been trying to get the symbology of an oil and gas well shapfile that I
downloaded from a State Oil and Gas Division into my map.  The wells all show
up as dots in my map, but
the convention for oil and gas symbols goes beyond dots.

The shape file that I downloaded has a ArcGIS Layer file (*.lyr).  Can QGIS
utilize a ArcGIS Layer file or is
it proprietary?  Is there a way the
person who created that ArcGIS layer file save it as something QGIS  could open?___

Re: [Qgis-user] ArcGIS Layer File

2014-03-25 Thread Ross Easterling
Thanks Carol!

I've downloaded a set of symbols that I can use (SVG images) and I'm sure that
with some help from the list I can get them installed correctly (SVG path
question).

SO, once I get there.  Then, how do I make the text referent oil well (as an
example) as listed in the Attribute Table connect to the appropriate SVG file
to bring that symbol in?

Can I put a path in an attribute table?

Ross,

You will need to create custom symbols either by using the QGIS symbols or by
going through some steps to create custom symbols using ArcGIS symbology to
bring it into QGIS. I wrote a blog post on this not too long ago that may help
you decide what you would prefer to do in your case.

Hope it helps!
