Re: [Qgis-user] [GRASS-user] GRASS GIS Unable to load GDAL library

2022-04-28 Thread Stefan Blumentrath via Qgis-user
Hi Ming,

Could you please try to install the “gdal-303-runtime” package (when you choose
advanced install, it is in the libs section). If I am not mistaken, this is a
glitch that should be fixed with the upcoming GRASS GIS 8.0.2 release.

Cheers
Stefan

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS on mobile Linux?

2020-12-30 Thread Stefan Blumentrath
Hi Jens,

And thanks for your interest!

Yes, indeed. Very good point! Reusing older devices is also more environmental
friendly than buying new ones, even if they are repairable.

The Samsung Note 4 seems to be a good candidate for mobile Linux (see e.g.
device notes for postmarketOS[1]). But from your writing I understand that you
already have some experience with Ubuntu Touch (lomiri framework) on that phone?

For QGIS to run there you would probably need an ARM build, which should be
doable[2]...

Maybe Fedora (which may support the Galaxy Note 4[3]) and also provides mobile
Linux frameworks already provides a binary package. From the rmp-list[4] it
seems so...

Or do you already have QGIS running on your Note 4?

Cheers
Stefan

Dear all,

exciting topic, I would also be very interested. I would add the
UbuntuTouch-Port to the Samsung Note 4 to the list.I find the input with a
(high-quality) pen very exciting. Good reuse for the device and quite cheap.
The Pinetab does not have integrated GPS as far as I know.

[Qgis-user] Open permanent position as Scientist in spatial analyses and remote sensing in applied ecology in NINA, Oslo, Norway

2019-08-09 Thread Stefan Blumentrath
Dear all,

Just want to inform you that there is an open permanent position as "Scientist
in spatial analyses and remote sensing in applied ecology" at the Norwegian
Institute for Nature Research (NINA), Oslo, Norway:
https://www.nina.no/Aktuelt/Nyhetsartikkel/ArticleId/4794/Scientist-in-spatial-analyses-and-remote-sensing-in-applied-ecology-1

Tasks in this position are amongst others to develop NINA´s research and
project activities on landscape analyses, spatial modelling and the use of
remote sensing data (satellite, air-born or in-situ) in ecology research and
nature conservation.

The application should contain:
* A one-page letter where the candidate explains her/his motivation for
applying for this scientist position and a brief description of the scientific
relevance of the candidate's research experience.
* A CV including a list of publications with bibliographical references and
contact details (telephone and e-mail) for three references.

The application must be submitted in English or Norwegian. It should be
submitted by e-mail to siri.svend...@nina.no

Norwegian skills are no prerequisite for the application, but the work will
require communication in Norwegian. Thus, we expect that the candidate acquires
sufficient Norwegian language skills and at least achieves level A2 (equivalent
to 92 hours evening course) during the probationary period, where fees for
Norwegian courses are financed by NINA.

For further information, please contact Research Director in NINA Oslo Kristin
Thorsrud Teien (phone: +47 930 06 805; e-mail: kristin.te...@nina.no).

Dead line for application: 10. of September 2019.

I would be glad to see strong applications from the OSGeo Community...

Kind regards,
Stefan

Re: [Qgis-user] River Flood modelling

2019-01-27 Thread Stefan Blumentrath
Hi,

Recently there has been a discussion on a similar task:
https://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/grass-user/2018-September/079127.html
Where solutions were discussed for manually digitized streams.

If you however can live with deriving streams from a terrain module, I would
use the r.stream.* modules for this job:
https://grasswiki.osgeo.org/wiki/R.stream.*_modules
Especially, r.stream.distance:
https://grass.osgeo.org/grass74/manuals/addons/r.stream.distance.html

Hope that helps.

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS SCCM package

2018-08-09 Thread Stefan Blumentrath
Dear Anna,

For QGIS 2 we had a similar approach.

Instead of using global settings, we added a section to the start-up batch that
copies default settings from some network drive to users %HOME% (while
replacing some user related paths strings...) utilizing the --confgpath option.
See e.g.: http://planet.qgis.org/planet/tag/settings%5D/

Project templates or composer templates can still remain on network drive,
BTW...

Cheers
Stefan

Here we make use of the nice and new Global settings in QGIS 3 [1]. This is
what we do:

  1. Download QGIS packages of interest:
osgeo4w-setup-x86_64.exe -q -a x86_64 -g -k -S -l
"X:\\Networkdrive\\QGIS_packages\\ " -D -P avce00 -P boost -P ...

  1. Inject a link to global settings on network drive in qgis.bat.tmpl (we
use a python script for that which I can share if it is of interest
  2. Our Sysadmins add some powershell based stuff in software center which at
its core executes:
osgeo4w-setup-x86_64.exe -q -k -g -A -d -a x86_64 --local-install --root

Maybe there is a also different (easier) way to create an SCCM package with

Any suggestions welcome since I didn´t find much information on QGIS and SCCM

HI Stefan,

thanks for the hint, but in fact it is 7.2.2 installed.

I also get the error when I use the standalone installer. Since I had an older
QGIS Version running on that same machine 2.18.something, I am guessing that
there are some hidden settings files in my User folder or registry entries
which interfere with the new installation.

Hi Nils,

GRASS GIS 7.4 just got released:
https://grass.osgeo.org/news/71/15/GRASS-GIS-7-4-0-released/ and I assume this
is the GRASS version you installed in OSGeo4W.

There are maybe to solutions to the problem:
1) the QGIS-GRASS-plugin needs to be compiled against the current stable
version, I guess (this would have to be done by the package maintainer)
2) you can downgrade your GRASS installation in OSGeo4W to GASS 7.2.2

Just guessing...

Cheers,
Stefan

I've found an older Issue in the Issue tracker concerning the same problem:

The mentioned solution (Installing gdal201) doesn't solve the problem.

My System is Windows 10 Home 64bit the used QGIS version is OSGeo4W with quick

QGIS.

I would be grateful for any help,

Hi,

We have quite a few QGIS users, who are used to working in ArcGIS for Desktop
on an Esri Enterprise Geodatabase. These users want to apply versioned editing
as known from ArcGIS.

Their basic requirements for versioned editing in QGIS can be summarized as
follows:
- Versioned editing is based on data contained in a central multi-user data
repository (database), preferably PostgreSQL/PostGIS.
- The parent version/default version/master version is the "current" dataset
that all ordinary users access for data browsing purposes.
- Editing users should be able to create independent versions (or branches) of
the data set - either in its entirety or for selected layers/tables in the data
set.
- It is not an ultimate requirement that a specific version/branch can be
shared by multiple users.
- But one user must be able to edit, whereafter another user can review,
approve and commit.
- Generally the "parent version/branch" (default version in ArcGIS terminology)
should not be edited, but this need not be prevented by the versioning solution.
- The individual user chooses which version/branch he/she wants to edit at the
beginning of an editing session.
- At any given time a user should be able to either delete (if edits are to be
dropped again) or commit the version/branch to the parent/default version.
- A complete history of editing or the ability to regret commit of
version/branch is NOT needed.

Do anyone know of any solutions, that will allow QGIS users to achieve this?

Re: [Qgis-user] Cool Features of QGIS

2017-12-05 Thread Stefan Blumentrath
Hi Nyall, Clifford,

Could not agree more! Personally, I would say
"http://monde-geospatial.com/10-differences-between-commercial-and-open-source-gis-software/";
is a prime example "of very poorly researched posts on that site". But
monde-geospatial is unfortunately not the only superficial site of that sort...

What "Cool features" are depends on what topic your audience is interested in
and what their background is (consultants, researchers, public authorities). So
it is hard to come up with general suggestions what to highlight.
What I would say it the big pluss of the OSGeo family is interoperability and
that you for many tasks find Open Source solutions that in many cases even
outperform expensive additional licenses in other GIS...
And that development of "cool features" is very much "user-driven". So, you can
say Open Source is "practicioneers tools".

Cheers
Stefan

Just be careful with articles from monde-geospatial. I've seen a lot of very

Hi Carlos,

Comments are not saved in the project, they are just retrieved from databases.

E.g. Postgres:

COMMENT ON COLUMN my_table.my_column IS 'Employee ID number';

It's a usability issue with QGIS 2.18 that the column is editable in the layer
properties, it should be read only.

Sidenote: That's not something that couldn't be changed in a future version,
maybe it could be also discussed with the metadata team if there's something
ready for this already.

Matthias

Hi,

I am interested at plugins for visualization of spatial temporal data. I found

TimeManager
Temporal/Spectral Profile Tool
Multitemporal and Multivariate data visualisation (only available for QGIS 1.x)

None of them fully meet basic requirements:

1) map canvas + graph view (scatterplot)
2) time slider allowing to define monitoring period (from to)

Map canvas + graph view linked to spatial-temporal dataset (eg. TGRASS [1]).

Are there any other related plugins available?

Thanks, Martin

See also:
https://issues.qgis.org/issues/10137 and

And

https://trac.osgeo.org/grass/ticket/3193
on the GRASS side, maybe also related:
https://trac.osgeo.org/grass/ticket/2229

I did not check CRS handling in v.out.ogr though (which I guess Processing is
using for vector data).
It could also be an issue in the way processing generates the location (e.g.
without explicitly defining EPSG code, (but I did not look at the source
code)...

If QGIS would use v.external.out SRID of the output could be handled
explicitly. But that approach might have drawbacks if tools can be chained in
processing...
