[Qgis-user] Cannot Edit File Geodatabases

2021-03-10 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hi;
Just discovering that I cannot edit filegeodatabases in QGIS anymore; first
I thought it was just the specific database I was working with but when I
opened one I always could edit I cannot edit that one either. I uninstalled
and reinstalled the gdal filegeodatabase drivers, trying each one I have
listed, and none seem to work.
Am I doing something wrong or have filegeodatabases changed and can no
longer be edited with Q.
ThanksTyler

[Qgis-user] Grid value shifts

2020-10-01 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hi All;
I have some Esri Grid files processed from LiDAR with no CRS values, I know
they are an older NAD83 CSRS for Prince Edward Island, anyway I set my CRS
in my project load the data and when I try to convert it to an ASCII file
the ASCII has different high/low values than the input grid and I was
wondering why my values are changing? Has anyone else noticed this?

[Qgis-user] Hyperlinks in the identify tool

2020-06-12 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hello;
I know this is kind of a dumb question but is there a way to put hyperlinks
to files that can be used stright from the identify pane? I know I can use
"actions" but I want to consolidate everything into a 1 click function so
that users don't have to keep switching to the "Action Button". The screen
grab below shows the link to my file.
When I click it though it tries to go to a webpage at "
http://g/Infrastructure/Vault+Drawings/F/Fox+Run+Drive+8.pdf"; instead of
opening the file. Again I know how to do this using actions but I don't
want users to have to switch from tool to tool, I just want to set it up so
that identifying the feature will provide a list of links to associated
files.
Thanks;
TYler

[Qgis-user] Catalog OTF

2020-05-08 Thread Tyler Veinot
I have a shapefile that contains essentially engineering drawing view ports
and a path to the drawing in a field. I noticed that in QGIS 3.X there is a
Catalog OTF tool/window and it picks up this layer. If I hit run QGIS
starts using a lot of my cpu resources and I got tired of waiting so I
terminated the process.
So what is Catalog OTF? How do I use it? and What is it for? I could not
find a tutorial on it or a description with some limited google searches.
Thanks;

[Qgis-user] Isochrones

2020-03-25 Thread Tyler Veinot
All;
I have a network, Canada National Road Network it is a free download, that
I am trying to use for PEI and the City of Charlottetown to find out what
area is within X time of various points of interest. I used Here for QGIS
to get the initial result but QGIS has a tool built in Network Analyst that
has Service Area from Network and from Point, also and QNEAT that has 6
isochrone tools for doing exactly what I am trying to do. For some reason
though the results don't seem to match the network. I would expect the from
the point of origin the shortest times to be along the lines and radiate
out.
What tools are you guys using to do this kind of work? Do my values for
forward backward both direction need to be numeric? Any tutorials on using
these tools?

Re: [Qgis-user] CRS Errors

2020-03-11 Thread Tyler Veinot
So bug report?... My $length calcs are messed up too, I had to make a field
and use ArcGIS to get the lengths and then go back to QGIS and use the
field value for my script. I tried turning off the geoid in the settings
and set the measurements to use planametric but it didn't work.
I really don't like QGIS changing my CRS's, and so far keeping me locked
out of making custom transformations using my own GSB files. In the past I
had to make my own prj's to get certain surveys to translate into NAD83
properly.
Well anyway, I am going to muddle along for now hopefully a solution
presents itself.

[Qgis-user] CRS Errors

2020-03-11 Thread Tyler Veinot
Has anyone had this issue?
My measurements when using the ellipsoidal measur are in the millions of
meters for things that are only a few hundred or less meters long. It isn't
a unit issue because I tried dividing for cm, mm, dm and the
measurements don't add up. If I go to cartesian the measurements look fine.
Before this was happening my QGIS was also assigning epsg 2292 to my
shapfiles having an epsg of 2954. I check the file geodatabase they were
exported from and the proj files and they all reference EPSG 2954 and not
EPSG 2292. Also All new projects are defaulted to 2954 so no
transformations should be necessary.
Since updating to QGIS3 I noticed this transformation section in the
settings under CRS, is there something here I inadvertently changed?
I do have my own GSB files for coordinate transformations from survey grids
but I have not figured out how to employ them yet in QGIS3 so I don't think
they would be an issue.
Anyone else have a similar thing start to happen?

[Qgis-user] Georeferencing PDF's

2019-08-19 Thread Tyler Veinot
All;
Is there a way to add spatial awareness to a PDF without altering the PDF's
size and orientation?Can I use an associated world file like a Tiff or
other similar method?
5 years ago I exported all our PDF's to tiff and georeferenced them so that
they could be added as a layer to GIS Software but also viewed and modified
as normal in a image processing software environment (specifically GIMP). I
did this because at the time there was no way to do this with PDF's with
the software we had.
Because geospatial pdf tools are hitting the open source I decided to try
and do this with our PDF's but all my attempts create a PDF that is scewed
and rotated making it hard to view in a regular PDF viewer.
I asked this on the GIS Stack Exchange but there seemed to be some
confusion and misinterpretation of what I was asking.

Basically not everyone uses GIS and those that do would like to be able to
add the PDF's as spatial layers to their GIS to view in relation to GIS
data (Right now the tiff's fill that role). Those that do not would like to
open and view them as a normal PDF plan drawing without it being rotated or
otherwise modified.

[Qgis-user] Mapped Network Drives dropped in QGIS

2019-04-03 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hi All;
I have a lot of data on a server so I have a number of networked drives
assigned to drive letters (these don't change). However everytime I open
QGIS I have to go and remap all my drives before opening any projects
otherwise I get the handle bad layers dialog every time. I am wondering if
this is a bug, a glitch, or something I have setup wrong.
It seems to only be an issue in QGIS 3.4.6 QGIS 3.6.X seems to not do this.

I went onto the stack exchange and tried some solutions presented there
including a cutome bat file and a series of pip install --updates to the

Correction, I can edit the layers I have not recently edited with ArcMap,
anything I edited with ArcMap last week I cannot edit in QGIS now.
I checked and the .lock files are all gone and ArcMap is completely shut

Re: [Qgis-user] Filegeodatabase editing

2019-03-18 Thread Tyler Veinot
So far I discovreed it either has something to do with the qgz file or
permissions on the server. I can edit the file geodatabase when it is on my
localdisk, I can edit it when it is on the network drive when I just open a
new qgz file add a featureclass and edit, but when I use my working qgz map
document it keeps saying I don't have permissions. It was working but now
it is doing it again not sure what is up. I have the read only unchecked in
the map doc too...

Re: [Qgis-user] Filegeodatabase editing

2019-03-18 Thread Tyler Veinot
Thank you for the reply but I think you might be refering to a Personal
Geodatabase, those need an ODBC driver and cannot be edited in QGIS. A
Filegeodatabase on the other hand can be edited directly in 2.18.x using
the OGR Filegeodatabase driver that can be installed using the advanced
options in the OGR installer; the issue of not being able to edit is
recent. Last week I could edit, this week I cannot.
I did a clean install of the QGIS3 application using the OSGeo Installer
and the editor is working using the OGR filegeodatabase drive but when I
select save edits I get " OGR error creating feature -2: Failed at writing
Row to Table in CreateFeature. (The user does not have permission to
execute the operation.)"
I noticed all my file geodatabases are showing a "read only" attribute that
will not go away. I can still edit them in ArcMap but nothing else. I
checked for *.lock files and removed them as well. Tyler

[Qgis-user] Filegeodatabase editing

2019-03-18 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hi All;
Has anyone had issues editing filegeodatabases in QGIS?
In 2.18X I was editing file geodatabase data painlessly but since QGIS LTR
went to 3.4.x and switched over I get an error on saving (you do not have
permissions to edit this data). I tried running QGIS as administrator and I
tried reinstalling 2.18.x but now 2.18.x will not even give me the option
to start editing, the pencil is greyed out.
I uninstalled the filegeodatabase drive and installed the
filegeodatabase-dev drive and now the oencil icon is greyed out in 3.4.x
and 3.6.x.
Has this happened to anyone else before? How did you resolve it?

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS and Libre\OpenOffice

2019-03-04 Thread Tyler Veinot
Base is a front end but it can also be built with a embedded database of
either Firebird or HyperSQL and is becomes a xyz.odb file. What I want to
do is through QGIS open that xyz.odb file and get a view of all the tables,
much like when opening a filegeodatabase, and add the tables I want to my
map. When I use external databases like Postgres and Sqlite with the
LibreOffice front end I lose certain capabilities.
Firebird is a somewhat new feature and I have been experimenting with
Firebird embedded databases and external firebird databases and LibreBase.
When I last left it I had LibreBase interacting with a Firebird database
file and was trying to get QGIS to connect to that file using ODBC. The
Firebird database file works better than using Sqlite because I do not lose
some of the capabilities and features in LibreBase.
Maybe integrate was the wrong word but basically I want to setup a database
app in LibreBase and have the information displayed in QGIS without the use
of a import/export function.

[Qgis-user] Networks and Geometric Networks

2019-01-08 Thread Tyler Veinot
I have been seeing more and more tools and plugins dealing with network
datasets and I am wondering if there is anything out there for building and
managing networks in QGIS for pressurized and gravity systems? What plugins
or modules should I look at? Any tutorials out there for these types of
networks in QGIS? Setup, Modules, Basics, etc...?
I tried sDNA, HECRAS, QNetwork, Networks, some utility specific data models
using postgres. I would like to learn how to use the framework itself so
that I would have more flexibility.

2018-12-17 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hi;
There is GHydrolics for 2.18.x, for 3.0 there is QWat, QWater, and Freewat
that maybe of interest. The one I got working the best was giswater under
2.18.x it is well documented in spanish and I had to copy paste the
documentation in segments in to google translate to read it. Not the best
way and some things were lost in translation but I did get a working
section of water network in it with a little help.

[Qgis-user] Auto Updating Virtual Layer

2018-11-16 Thread Tyler Veinot
I am trying to make a pie chart that only compares feature attributes of
the features in the current extent. My first approach was to make a python
function that returned the current extent as a polygon and use that returns
with the within function. Unfortunately the python function only returns an
extent if I go in and click the load button. If I move the extent I have to
reload the python script to get my new extent. This wont work well for my
purposes, so now I am thinking about a virtual layer as an attribute table
that only contains features in the current extent. Has anyone done
something similar with a virtual layer that could help me, I cannot find an
sql command that returns the map canvas. My data is in postgresql.
Thanks;

I suggest the solution of if you are having trouble understanding someone
do to a language barrier just say so and/or ask for help. The people here,
for the most part, are friendly and understanding. I cannot imagine someone
not clarifying a communication, or parts there of, for someone like me, who

Glad you got it working, I didn't realize that you were trying to view an
image through the reference but it is nice to know that can be done with
the externalresourcewidget. Will it also work for videos? Is there a use
tutorial or does it work like the other 2?

All;
Trying to install QGIS and QGIS Server using Osgeo4W installer on a virtual

program can't start because zip.dll is missing from your computer. Try
reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
I don't have a zip.dll anywhere but I cannot find out what package installs
it.
Anyone else run into this? Any solutions?

[Qgis-user] Cannot downgrade plugin

2018-10-10 Thread Tyler Veinot
I am using GISwater, a QGIS plugin for water and sewer networks, and I
decided to try the 3.1 development version and decided to roll back to 2.1.
The rollback for the software and database worked fine but when I try to
install the 2.1 plugin qgis keeps installing the 3.1 plugin. The 2 plugins
have 2 different repositories and even when I delete the 3.1 repo qgis
still installs the 3.1 plugin giving me a warning that my version is higher
than the repos. Downgrade wont work either. How can I get rid of whatever
is holding qgis to that plugin?

[Qgis-user] Java and QGIS

Hi All;
So my IT guy said that Java is being phased out and is no longer supported
on many browsers and soon none. I have JRE and JDK setup as part of Apachie

I guess my question is with Java being phased out/not supported what do we
turn to for a web server in the opensource GIS community?

[Qgis-user] 3D Map Views and XYZM values

2018-06-20 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hi All;
I have been experimenting with the 3D viewer in QGIS3 and was wondering how
the ZM values are interpreted or if they are at all. When I tested with the
points and polygons it looked like the Z was interpreted as a extrusion or
height; but when I measure all objects seem to be the same size regardless
of M value can someone verify if a M value is interpreted at all in the 3D
view?

Another question, for polygons I can use fields to define things like,
extrusion, elevation, scale, etc... but I cannot for points or lines in
3D; I was sure I could do this in the 3.0.0 build (currently at 3.0.3). Is
adding this capability something that is being looked into for future
versions?
Thanks;

[Qgis-user] Vanishing Python files

2018-05-11 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hi;
I am having an issue in Python 27 in the OSGEO4W64 folder where module
thread is now _thread so I keep getting the error no module named thread.
Using some google info I created a python script for in the Lib folder to
add an alias to _thread as thread.

from _thread import *
__all__ = ("error", "LockType", "start_new_thread", "interrupt_main",
"exit", "allocate_lock", "get_ident", "stack_size", "acquire", "release",
"locked")

But OSGeo doesn't seem to like this and keeps deleting it.
Anyway around this?

[Qgis-user] Measurement differences between GIS and paper space.

2018-04-30 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hello;
I am using a stereographic projection in QGIS, EPSG 2954 to be specific
PEI, and I noticed that when I measure distances in the map using GRS80
ellipsoid they are quite different from when I print it out on paper at say
1:500 and measure with a scale. For example a pipe segment in the GIS
measured 86m but when printed and measured with a scale it showed up as
96m. Did the same thing in a PDF and used the PDF measure and scale tools
with the same result. Got nearly the same result in ArcMap as well. It
seems like that is quite a lot of discrepancy and I am wondering if anyone
has any insights on this?

[Qgis-user] Plugins that use active layer

2018-03-10 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hi List;
I am trying to setup a plugin that will show the attributes of selected
features in a docked table widget. I want the plugin to only show the
features selected in the active or highlighted layer. My question is does
anyone know of any existing plugins that use the, or call, the active layer
so that I can look at the code to get an idea of how this is done?

Thanks;
Tyler

A Little more info:
Basically I am using giswater that has a function that selects all the
water network features between isolation valves, including those control
valves. This shows what valves need to be operated to control the part of
the network clicked. I want to add a little read out that shows the
attributes of those selected features so that I can quickly see, for the
valves, direction to turn and how many turns to close/open. I know I can
open the attribute table and go "show selected features" but this is
cumbersome on a tablet. Having a docker that is always there and ready to
show you the information would be beneficial in my case.

[Qgis-user] QGIS 2.18.X and QGIS3

2018-03-07 Thread Tyler Veinot
Anyone having issues with Python after installing the new QGIS3? My OSGeo4w
shell only sees the Python27 install and my windows cmd only sees the
python36 install. When I type python in OSGeo4W I get 2.7.X and a
readout of where it is installed and such, the usual. When I type Python in
my windows cmd I get the program could not start because python36.dll is
missing from your computer. Using the 64bit OSGeo4W package, btw.
When in QGIS3 if I put in print(sys.version) in the python codeblock I get
a readout saying I am in Python 3.6. QGIS 2.18.X LTR seems to be using
Python 2.7.XXX
My question is, is this normal? Is the python packaged with QGIS3 somehow
(locked) because it is an early release and not 100% ready? or do I need to
do something to switch from one Python to another that I am not doing?
I also tried running Python from the OSGeo4W64\apps\Python27 and Python36
directories respectively with the same results. CMD Windows says I am
missing a DLL and OSGeo4W goes into Python2.7.
Thanks;
Tyler

Re: [Qgis-user] Error returned from Plugin giswater

2018-03-05 Thread Tyler Veinot
Richard;
No I am not the Author, it is available through a tool I found called
giswater (https://www.giswater.org/?lang=en), the tool kit is downloaded
into qgis through a repository they reference on their website. I am
assuming then that AttributeForm is not part of a pyQT4/5 or another python
package then.
Since I installed QGIS3.0 alongside my 2.18.X I thought things might have
gone wrong wit the python environments since one is 2.7 and the newer QGIS
is using 3.6.

I am running a plugin called GISwater and it was working a few months ago

Re: [Qgis-user] Exporting Maps

2018-02-21 Thread Tyler Veinot
Kirk;
I appreciate the information on making geoPDF's it will come in handy, but
for this purpose a PDF simply cannot handle it and QGIS stalls or produces
a blank PDF/Webmap when I try it. I is likely because I am making a map
that is at a 250 scale with a paper space of 30mx30m.
Anyway, wondering if such a large small scale map can be handled other
ways, without breaking it up into grids.

[Qgis-user] Exporting Maps

2018-02-21 Thread Tyler Veinot
All;
I have a college that would like a map of an area, it is a rather large
area, at 1:250. Currently he uses an atlas of grids but would like one all
inclusive map. I tried various things including QField and QGIS on his
computer setup with the data but he is a bit "technologically challenged"
and doesn't quite like the solution. The area is far too big for export to
PDF; and I tried a locally stored web map. Was wondering if anyone out
there has thoughts on a robust portable electronic map document that can be
exported from QGIS.

Re: [Qgis-user] Versioned editing in QGIS

2017-12-20 Thread Tyler Veinot
Morten;
There are 2 versioning editing plugins for Postgre that might work for you.
One is simply called Versioning and pgVersion. I had little success with
them but it was giving me errors that someone who is more database
knowledgeable might be able to interpret and correct.
There is also the built in offline editing mode. I did some test with some
success working with; PostgreSQL, MSSQL Express 2008R2 and 2012, and
Filegeodatabase. Where I "checked out" some data into a sqlite database,
made some edits and "checked in" the data. It worked with multiple users
(my test was 2) as long as you didn't edit the same features. My testing
was also on simple tables no relationships or triggers.
To my knowledge even using versioned datasets through Esri you are still
limited in that you and someone else cannot edit the same feature during
the same check out because it causes conflicts on reconciling and someones
edits will be over ruled. At least that is how it was on the system we were
using on an Oracle db.
Hope that helps;

[Qgis-user] QGIS and MSSQL

2017-12-19 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hello;
Is there anyway to create new spatial tables in MSSQL from within QGIS or
do I have to make shape files and import them into MSSQL?
I tried using the OSGeo4W shell to import a shapefile into MSSQL but QGIS
crashes when I open it. MSSQL seems to create a bogus SRID for the
geometries, the definition matches the original CRS but it has an ID that
does not exist. Also QGIS does not seem to know what the pk is of the
layer, the table has one it just doesn't show.
Been online looking for solutions but not finding much, not sure if it is
because I am using the wrong terms or if QGIS and MSSQL just isn't used
much together.
Anyway, thoughts, ideas, tools, and tips would be appreciated.
Thanks;

Re: [Qgis-user] LiDAR Data in QGIS

2017-12-11 Thread Tyler Veinot
Randy;
I figured as much; the DEM/DSM/DTM's were delivered to us from the province
in that Esri Binary Grid Format, so we do not have the original LiDAR
LAS/LAZ files on hand. It would also seem that we didn't keep the LAS/LAZ
files from the original 2003 LiDAR survey of the city either.
I sent an email to the province to see if they have and are willing to
share the original data but got no reply as of yet.

Re: [Qgis-user] LiDAR Data in QGIS

2017-12-11 Thread Tyler Veinot
All;
But if I convert the DEM or DSM to geotiff I still wont get back the hit
order or the classification values will I? I will just have the data I have
as processed in a different format. What I really need is the original
LiDAR datasets if I am understanding this correctly.
As for DTM, DSM, and DEM, The province my municipality is in has decided
that; DTM is a surface model which includes surface features + ground hits
+ breaklines. A DEM is ground hits, and a DSM as is the surface + features
without added breaklines. I have found definitions online to support both
view points on the matter; just an FYI my text books agree with you on the
matter. I blame AutoCAD/CADD users for the discrepancies because, in my
experience according to the EIT's and other CADD users, a DTM is all of the
above and a DSM and DEM doesn't exist lol.
Thanks for the help on this;
Tyler

[Qgis-user] LiDAR Data in QGIS

2017-12-08 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hello;
I need some education on LiDAR data, we currently have datasets in an Esri
format that seems to be a collection of ADF files. These files consist of
ground hits (DEM) and surface hits (DSM). When I bring them into QGIS I get
raster symbology options but when I read this link
https://rstudio-pubs-static.s3.amazonaws.com/230154_30a0bbf22e2a49ecbfa1b72b2c7a8f96.html
It talks about various other values that should be stored to help process
and visualize the data but I do not see any of those values in our data. I
am not sure if I am doing something wrong or if the data has been stripped
down to only represent elevations. Is there anyway these file formats can
be converted to something the SAGA and Grass tolls can use or do I need to
track down the raw data from the original source?
Thanks;

[Qgis-user] WKT Geometry display

2017-11-21 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hi All;
I found lots of example for displaying WKT geometries from CSV files but I
would like to do it from within an access database using a ODBC connection.
I can bring the tables in and see the WKT field I created filled with the
polygon geometry but I cannot find away to get QGIS to look in that field
and extract/display the geometries presented as WKT. Is it possible or do I
have to export to CSV?
I am trying to setup a database to track easements and would rather just
populate the database and connect to it rather than have to export it out
after every update.

[Qgis-user] WMS Services dropping

2017-11-07 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hello;
Having some trouble with WMS Layers, they are dropping after certain
scales. I thought it had something to do with the service but others using
the same service on QGIS 2.16.x say they can zoom in to 1:1 and the WMS
layer still draws. Mine will stop drawing in past 1:130. Also the NRCan
Topographic WMS stops drawing in past 1:1000. I tried a number of different
settings with no change and am wondering if anyone has come across this
before and if there is a solution?
Thanks;

Re: [Qgis-user] Building models in QGIS

2017-11-03 Thread Tyler Veinot
All;
QGIS 3 is going to be awesome, well it is now, I just added my model to a
3D map as a model point and it looks pretty good. I used a number of
methods in COLLADA; no texture, texture, photo texture, edges, 2 sided
edges, etc.. they all seem to work. The only thing I will note is that the
Photo Textures are upside down on the faces.
As for the base data, I added a rasterized DEM but it doesn't seem to
display as 3D, it looks more like a flat hillshade.
Anyway this is a newer QGIS than what I am use too and still in Dev stages
so I am sure I am just overlooking something or if it is an issue it will
be fixed by release.
Anyway, this is great. Thanks for the help.

Re: [Qgis-user] Building models in QGIS

2017-11-03 Thread Tyler Veinot
COLLADA works brilliantly, I would like to try JSON as well. Mine didn't
have any texture to it, the model came in black don't know if textures are
not supported yet or if the model doesn't have one, will look into it
further. I have not tested this in the QGIS 3 beta yet but will soon.
DXF's of building models crash both QGIS systems. They came from Sketchup
but I used AutoCAD to simplify them a bit as well with no luck.
Have not gotten into the 3D polygon method yet either but will certainly
try further when time permits.

Andreas;
I installed the QGIS 2.99 and added some data, the 3D map seems to work
well with grid/raster dems but it doesn't display XYZ/XYZM geometries based
on the Z coordinate. I only did a basic install using the downloadable
installer; is there other dependencies I should install or is it only for
viewing rasters and DEM's in 3D?

[Qgis-user] Building models in QGIS

2017-11-02 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hello;
Is anyone out there doing anything with building models in QGIS? I have
some sketchup buildings in DXF format I have been playing with in AutoCAD
and QGIS. Trying to find a way to bring them into QGIS for viewing in the
qgs2threejs plugin, but when I do I get a crash dump.
Tried a simple cube as well.
I can bring in Z aware dxf files and view them so I am wondering how big of
a step is it to go from there to simple building models? Is anyone working
in this direction that has some insights or thoughts to share?

[Qgis-user] NAD27 to NAD83

2017-10-27 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hi All;
This question was up not long ago and I have been speaking with Steve King
on it and made some headway but he thought I should repost to the forum. I
am going to try and be more clear; I apologize for not being completely
competition in communications lol.
Here in PEI I have old data and new data I need to map. The working CRS is
EPSG 2954 a 3D realization of NAD83 in a Stereographic Projection for PEI;
PEI Stereographic Projection NAD83 CSRS. In the olden days we used NAD27
but there were 2 realizations of it NAD27 Stereographic Imperial and NAD27
Sterographic Metric. Because the province had definitions of these 2 CRS I
was able to make them easily in QGIS, so I have 2 custom coordinate systems
one NAD27 Imperial and the other Metric. We also have ATS77 Metrics which I
come across every so often but generally have a handle on. There is an old
XP based software used to transform coordinates from NAD27 Imp/Met to
NAD83CSRS but it only works on XP and we have completely removed those
computers from our network; so I have been trying to setup a transformation
in QGIS so that I wont need the older software.

I have a point with xy coordinates in both NAD27 Imp and NAD83 CSRS, what I
am trying to do is make a CRS and Transformation that will display both
coordinates in the same spot in their respective CRS.

So far I managed to get into the software and obtain the GSB file it uses
for the transformation, and apply that to my CRS;
+proj=sterea +lat_0=47.25 +lon_0=-63.0 +k=0.12 +x_0=152400 +y_0=213360
+ellps=clrk66 +units=ft +nadgrids=mar2783.GSB
Which turned out to be the same has;
+proj=sterea +lat_0=47.25 +lon_0=-63.0 +k=0.12 +x_0=152400 +y_0=213360
+ellps=clrk66 +units=ft +nadgrids=NTV2_0.gsb
But the when use it one the same coordinates transformed by the software
they are consistently about 23cm away from each other. We determined that
it is because PROJ4 assumes gridshifts are always from X datum to WGS84,
but NAD83 uses GRS80 so my question is, is there a way around this?
Should I use a NAD27 to WGS84 gridshift and let QGIS reporject it to NAD83
CSRS? Or is QGIS running on the notion that the 2 are coincidental?
Thoughts?

[Qgis-user] NTV2 Grid Shits

2017-10-20 Thread Tyler Veinot
Anyone knowledge in using grid shift files (gsb) with QGIS?
I have a local CRS NAD27 Double Stereographic Imperial that I need to
transform to NAD83 CSRS 2010 Epoch. I have the CRS properly defined using
the provincial description but QGIS using its Clark 1866 to GRS80
transformation puts the points a little off from the NTV2 coordinate
transformation software we have. I have the GSB used (even though it says
ATS77 the provincial geomatics guys tell me it shits NAD27 and ATS77 into
CSRS 2010 NAD83). I followed some directions on putting the file in a
specific folder and restarted QGIS set the settings to always ask for grid
shift file for transformations yet I do not see the one I put in there in
my list to pick from.
I also tried to install a plugin for NTV2 transformations but cannot
activate it. When I go to Activate Additional Providers in my Processing
Toolbox where NTv2 Datum Transformations resides I get the "Specified Path
does not exist: C:\PROGA~1\QGIS~1.18\bin" error that I have not yet managed
to resolve. To my understanding has something to do with GRASS plugins and
past versions of QGIS.
Anyway; I have the GSB, how do I get QGIS to use it?
Thanks

[Qgis-user] Cannot get grid samples

Hello;
Has anyone had the issue where their point sampling tool and zonal

when they stopped working. Could it be I am missing a dependency?
I tried reinstalling the plugins but that didn't work.

[Qgis-user] Point Fill Polygon

2017-10-06 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hi;
In a point/symbol fill polygon is there anyway to allow the point/svg
symbol to extrude over the polygon border and not be cut off. Or only show
symbols that are completely contained by the polygon? The polygon is only a
rough area of forest and I am trying to fill it with little tree triangles
but I don't want symbol slivers at the polygon edge.

[Qgis-user] QField Question

2017-06-27 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hello;
I would like to map some of the trails around my new home and was wondering
if there was a way to have QField auto place a point every some many
seconds based on my location as I walk or bike the trail. Or will it
digitize a line based on my location as I go?
Thanks;

[Qgis-user] Z value from field

2017-06-09 Thread Tyler Veinot
All;
Hello, trying to build a 3D polyline and I have Z values (Star and End)
stored in the attribute table as; Start_Z and End_Z. I would like to update
the line geometry at the star and end vertices with the Star/End Z value
from the attribute table. I looked for grass tools, spatialite functions,
and qgis tools but didn't find what I am looking for; any suggestions?

[Qgis-user] LRS (Linear Referencing System Plugin)

2017-04-18 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hello;
Has anyone used the Linear Reference System Plugin in QGIS aka LRS Plugin?
I would like to display events as points and lines based on measured
distances along a linear feature. I can get lines working with an event
table with; Route_ID, Measure_From, Measure_To fields but I cannot seem to
display point events. I tried Route_ID and Measure fields and Route_ID with
the Measure_To and Measure_From valves as the same number but no go.
Anyone using LRS to display point events?

[Qgis-user] Label Settings

2017-04-06 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hello;
In the Label Settings under Rendering there is a slider labeled Low
Weight- High Weight under Obstacles and a Check Box Discourage Labels
from Covering Features.
I don't want the labels to cover certain features on other layers but
nothing seems to change when I move the slider from Low to High and I was
wondering what exactly does it mean. Does it mean the Label Priority is
High thus it will cover features or is it the Priority of "Not Covering
Features". The tool tip doesn't say. If I want the Label to avoid features
do I move it to high or low?

Thanks;

Hi;
All the QGIS Server tutorials I can find setup using port 80, my windows 10

way to configure on port 8080?
I tried using netstat -aon | findstr :80, and netstat -aon | findstr :80
and it gives me
  TCP0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:0  LISTENING   2272

Re: [Qgis-user] 2 Questions

2017-04-03 Thread Tyler Veinot
Matthias;
Sorry, my original email had 2 questions one for QGIS and one for QField, I
should have broken it up into 2 emails sorry.
The question I am asking is about QGIS; in ArcMap I can build Macros that
run scripts as little buttons so I can just click an icon and whatever I
written runs. I was wondering if QGIS had something similar, I have a
python script that runs on all selected features, I want to build it into a
button control instead of copying and pasting it into the console every
time. I couldn't find any directions on that other than building a python
plugin so I was wondering if the plugin was the only way to do this?
I hope that is clearer;

What about making a python script a push button action/tool? Is there away

to be tied to the pyQt modules.
I uninstalled all those whl's and the python-QT5 but still not having any

[Qgis-user] Processing tools stopped working.

2017-03-30 Thread Tyler Veinot
I am getting Python errors on QGIS Startup for Processing and QEsg, due to
classFactory() error. The issue started when I installed; pip install
python-Qt5, PyQt4-4.11.4-cp27-cp27m-win32.whl,
PyQtdesignerplugins-1.1-py2.py3-none-any.whl, and
pyqtgraph-0.10.0-py2.py3-none-any.whl trying to fill the dependencies
required for the QField Sync plugin which was failing because it could not
import name uic.
I tried uninstalling the Python Modules 1 by 1 and checking QGIS but after
they were all uninstalled QGIS still failed. I reinstalled QGIS with no
changes. I then uninstalled QGIS and reinstalled using the OSGeo4W
installer. I still get the classFactory() error for as stated above.
Below is the Python Message Log, any thoughts on how to fix this?

[Qgis-user] Python Error using FormValueRelation plugin.

2017-03-16 Thread Tyler Veinot
Hello;
When I try and use FormValueRelation plugin I get the below error. I have
been using it for a while now with no issues, not sure what happened. I
know what the error is saying but I do not know how to fix it. I tried
reinstalling the plugin, is there something else I can try?

[Qgis-user] Help with QNetwork

2017-02-28 Thread Tyler Veinot
I am trying to use the QNetwork tool but all the functions are greyed out.
The directions say I need a shapefile, GDAL 2.1 or greater, and GNM
enabled. I have a shape and GDAL 2.1.2 but I cannot seem to find GNM or a
method of enabling it. Do I need to do a custom build to enable GNM? Is GNM
enabled by default and I am experiencing a different problem?
Let me know if you an help, thanks;

Re: [Qgis-user] Selecting Objects from an ESRI file based geodatabase

2017-02-01 Thread Tyler Veinot
You could add the layers you need and use the convert to offline project
button to convert the layers to sqlite. I have done this to our file
geodatabases but it doesn't work for Z and ZM features, some field data
types will throw errors that may or may not halt the export. Then you might
be able to use some SQL filters in the database to limit or group certain
layers.

Re: [Qgis-user] Selecting Objects from an ESRI file based geodatabase

2017-02-01 Thread Tyler Veinot
You can right click a layer and go to filter and enter an expression to
filter out unwanted objects. From there save as will save to a shapefile,
among other other formats, that will only be the items defined by the
filter. You can also use a select expression and in the save as dialog
select save only selected features
Does that help?.

Re: [Qgis-user] Feature Editing Tools

2016-11-04 Thread Tyler Veinot
Richard;
I was hoping to take advantabe of the offline editing functions in QGIS to
allow multi user editing. I have done some testing and discovered that the
function can allow multiple user edits in an sqlite database as long as
users do not edit the same feature. I am setting up "work areas" for each
person as long as they stay within their respected areas they should be
able to edit features without causing issues with other data changes.
What you are suggesting makes sense and I am wondering if this process will
work; Use QGIS to create an "offline editing mode" then switch to AutoCAD
to make the edits in the "offline.sqlite" database. After editing use QGIS
to post the data back to the online version of the database; this is
something I am going to have to test.
Most people will be editing a specific layer with only me and one other
tech editing all of them, some of those layers are simply related data
tables and not really layers containing any geometry.
Thanks for the input Richard it has given me something to think about.

Re: [Qgis-user] Feature Editing Tools

2016-11-03 Thread Tyler Veinot
Gam;
I discovered some of what you said last night, I also installed 3 or 4
other CAD like tools adons as well as Survey Calculator. Last AutoCAD
training I had was 2008 and I never used it in a production environment but
I still understand some of the concepts. The person I am trying to set this
up for is a drafting tech familiar with AutoCAD so this might work well for
him.
Anyway I will try your direction distance and distance along path work
flows and see what happens.

All;
Seems to work fairly well, a little getting use too.
Thanks for this one.

2016-10-31 Thread Tyler Veinot
Scratch that last comment, I accidentally didn't have my test feature
classes set to a projected coordinate system. Need to work with this a bit
but I still see no way to add a point based on the distance from 2 other
points. Will need to go to the documentation at some point today.
