Also, the packagers could split the plugin as a separate package, thus
avoiding imposing additional dependencies to main qgis.
All the best.

In any case, exiv is more or less unavoidable if we want geotagged
photos (which is useful anyway).
I vote for inclusion in trunk.
All the best.

You mean, LibRaw Exiv2 Expat zlib?
They do not seem too exoteric dipendencies to impose - what other devs
think about this?

Thanks for clarifying, and sorry for being too quick.

- why a CC licence? Is this compatible with GPL? I would suggest you to
change to GPL, in order to avoid possible future problems
It is source code is GPL2, only the guide is CC, as is all other
none-code resources on our site.

[Qgis-user] Early beta of EasyGeoTagger available for download

2009-03-11 Thread Peter Ersts

Howdy QGIS Users,

We are happy to introduce a new plugin.

EasyGeoTagger (EasyGT)
is an easy-to-use open source software application for geotagging
digital images that runs on Linux, OSX and Windows.

EasyGT comes with additional plugins that greatly extend the
capabilities of QGIS. EasyGT includes a native QGIS data provider and
accompanying plugin ( LoadExifDataset ) that allows a directory of
geotagged images to be treated as vector ( point ) data source. Together
with the Event Visualization Tool (eVis), natural resource managers,
conservation practitioners and general enthusiasts have access to
powerful suite of free tools for editing, mapping, and displaying
digital images in a geographic context.

EasyGT is in the very early stages of development. This early release
only contains a windows binary for use with the OSGeo4W package and
build instructions for Linux ( don't need to build QGIS from source
however ). Binaries for Linux and Mac OSX will be available sometime in
the near future.

Version 0.3.0 currently includes the following capabilities,
   * Preview and tagging of JPG, TIF, PNG and most raw image files
(e.g., NEF, CRW )

   * Manual editing of GPS EXIF data
   * Coordinate selection from Google Maps (requires Internet connection)
   * Coordinate selection from custom data layers when used as a QGIS
plugin

   * Interactive selection of coordinates from delimited text files
   * Convert raw image files to JPG and copy all EXIF data
   * Scriptable through a built in Python console
   * Simple and flexible plugin interface for extending and adding
functionality

We hope that you find this early beta interesting. Please provide us
with some feedback! Also if anyone is interested in helping, we are
always looking for contributors ( documentation, translators, and coders ).
