Does anyone know of a workaround? Matt Boyd suggested saving images and
loading them for these specific zoomlevels - could anyone tell me how to
go about that (and is it allowed under the Google terms)?

Well, simply don't use them if they don't like it ;-)
Bing and Openstreetmap are not so neurotic about using their services.

For digitizing, you can do it in Google Earth without misplacement, save
it as kml, and import that into QGIS.

Bing satellite imagery was not affected where I tried.

This may be an old issue more to do with how Google serves up the
images than QGIS. I can't remember the exact details but Google images
only work at certain zoom levels for me. I load a google image layer
and then set the zoom level to whatever it was I stumbled across that
works then only zoom using the mouse wheel.
I did ask about it a few years ago, the answer is probably in the archives.

I needed to be able to zoom in to more specific areas so I was saving
images and loading those for unsupported (by google) zoom levels.

Hi all,

Has anyone noticed that the Google based layers in the OpenLayers

that and the scale of the image seems to be wrong and everything

The more you zoom in the more the shift changes.
