Fast track to 2018 and I'm seeing this same problem in V 3.41. Was there ever a resolution to the problem?? The /Volumes trick in the add layer dialogue works, but not when trying to access grass workspaces. Nice trick. I found out you also can right-click the file in a finder window and then choose: open-with ... If the Qgis version you choose is already running, the selected file will add a new layer to Qgis.
