I have no idea about coordinate reference systems at all, but what I
know is, that the EU hands out their data in ETRS89/ LAEA Europe EPSG: 3035
Maybe thats an indicator of some preference for something ;)

So far for me 2163 for North America works for me.
However, I can't find one that is similar for Europe or Asia.
For Europe, I would like to get results that look like some of the

I've been using 4936; but the result for me seems to be a poor
approximation.
And for Asia, 3832.
