[Qgis-user] Re: Mapbooks with Easyprint

2012-01-07 Thread magerlin
Thanks for your suggestions on how to manipulate the PDF afterwards.

The "reverse print" is quite smart, but my experience is that reprint might
some times lead to very big files.

I gave up getting PDFShuffler to function (several other program had to be
installed first) but I found the free Opensource program PDFSam
http://www.pdfsam.org/?page_id=32 http://www.pdfsam.org/?page_id=32 , which
has a Reverse button in the "Visual Reorder" section.

It even comes in a portable (or at least not installer-based) version. Also
a Mac version is available.

Or you could try Pdfshuffler or Final Page, both available on sourceforge. I
think in theory any of them could work on Windows, but I know there is already
a (third party) windows installer for pdfshuffler (if you can find it - it is
linked from one of the bug reports).

But if you just want to reverse the pages, the easiest thing to do is open the
pdf and "print to file", selecting the option to reverse the page order. On
windows and some other systems you would need to install a virtual "pdf
printer" such as PdfCreator (also available on sourceforge) and print to that.

BTW I think if you wanted to file a bug report or a patch for easy print this
would be the place: http://code.google.com/p/cataisrepository/issues/list

if you use Linux and your mapbook hasn't to much pages you can try "PDF

Cool feature!

Working with an 8 km long road section this is really nice when doing plots.

I realised that when using the "Mapbook by grid" method it is possible to
edit the grid before you create the map (like editing any other shape file)

With a road meandering through the landscape I could move around the grids
and delete unnessecary ones. I could even rename the grids to a more
suitable naming style.

To make changes like Layout and papersize appear in the final mapbook it
seams like a good idea to press the OK button on the SimpleMap pane first.

Anybody got a clue on how to change the DPI used in printing?
With aerial photos my mapbook is 60MB and not suitable for email or the
like.

I can confirm the shift under Windows (but not under Linux) when
creating a mapbook without the option "print as raster" and only when
one ore more rasters maps are in the project.

Hi,

I also would love to use the composer as EasyPrint layout! :)

I have noticed in EasyPrint the problem that existed some time ago in the
composer ( http://hub.qgis.org/issues/3028 ), when the box "Print as raster" is
not checked. Here is a screenshot that shows this problem.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5772257/qgis/easyprint_problem.jpg

I've made tests on Windows 7 with QGIS 1.7.2 and QGIS-dev (1.9.90-6) from
osgeo4w.

With the option "Print as raster" selected, everything works fine.

Someone confirms?

Re: AW: [Qgis-user] Re: Mapbooks with Easyprint

2011-11-25 Thread Nathan Woodrow
Ziegler,

Just thought I would let you know. I added a method a while ago that
will hopefully help making map books using composer layouts a bit easier.
I added a composer item id which you can assign in the UI and then
reference in the code. The ID/Name is just a string so you can use any
convention for naming you composer items, any composer item can have a
id/name e.g you could name a map frame "overview" and then reference this
to put the overview window in that map frame; or name a text label "Title"
and then put the map title in there.

The method is called QgsComposerItem::id() and you can get to it using
Python or C++.

Would love to see EasyPrint use composer layouts to generate map books, I
know a lot of users would love it. Hopefully this will help you.

The templates are stored in a xml file (layouts.xml), which you should find in
the plugins directory in your home directory where easyprint is installed.

So under linux it's something like

Stefan,

This is a great tool!

A couple of questions:

1. I too would like to know how to create custom templates. Where are they
saved? In what format?
2. I notice some weirdness when using a WMS layer in the background. It
causes the plugin to crash often, and when it does work, it doesn't seem to
fully render as it should.

This is a GREAT tool! Thanks so much for your hard work!
