Thanks for your comments and willingness to help. I finally got the connection 
to work. The data added fine to the QGIS Desktop project without any issues.

I did establish a connection to 2012 (didn't have any data in it) but it 
worked. I filled out everything but the Provider/DSN. If I included that 
bit of info it didn't work.
