I agree,

Unless someone actually when true the trouble of story the geometry in the
database. Look for x an y columns for point or a geometry column or a WKT
format. If so, you could recreate the geometry from that information. But
chances are you have no such data in the databas.

Hi Paddy,

The .shp file contains the geometries. If your data contains no
geometries, then you might be fine with the .dbf file that contains the
no-geometry part of your data (attribute columns). No - it is not
possible to recreate the .shp file if it is missing.

(from ESRI, but I think should apply equally to shapefiles used in QGIS):

represent the years the data is for. They are integers (if that matters)
but when I try to use them in a Qgis (2.14.2-Essen) the styler recognises

are set to -2147483648 - -2147483648. If I rename the attribute to
1980_inc or inc1980 the classifier is happy and everything works as I
expect.

Does anyone know what might be going on?

Ian

Hi John,

Do you have a sample APL? If is text based maybe you can see with things
need to be changed to work with your particular shapefile and maybe create a
python script or plugin to be used in QGIS

[Qgis-user] Shapefiles in ArcPad

2014-09-10 Thread John Freestone
Can anyone help me when saving shapefiles to use in ArcPad, can I create an APL
file or similar so that the styles are copied in ArcPad?

I need to use multiple coloured points in one shape file - can do it in QGIS
but no facility in ArcPad.

John.

[Qgis-user] shapefiles to postgresql conversion

2012-10-11 Thread chathura silva
hi all,

when I try to connect postgresQL via Quantumgis (for import shapefiles into
postgresql using spit) , it asks for a service field to connect to the
server. What is the value of the field service ??

thank you

just leave it empty, it's a special connection param
but you don't need it to connect to a standard
postgresql installation.

 thank you

Hi John,
did you already succeed?

Are you sure your data and your project share the same crs?
I think QGIS is not able to reproject your raster (tiff) files, but it
can reproject your vector files.

So setting your PROJECT crs to the crs of your tiff, and (if vectors are
in other crs) enable 'on the fly projection' and set the right crs for
the vectors should do the trick.

What kind of coordinates are show below your map near 'Coordinate:' are
these in the crs you expect? It should be the crs of your tiffs.
You can then set the coordinate capture plugin to show you
wgs84/epsg:4326 coords.

If not clear, please give some more info about your data files (or sent
me a set offline)

Regards,

Richard

Re: [Qgis-user] shapefiles

2010-08-07 Thread Benoit EXIGE

Hi,

In QGIS the project CRS must be the same as all the rasters crs you
want to display. Furthermore you need to enable on-the-fly projection
to be able to display vector layers in different crs.

To display lat-lon I think the project crs must be one of the lat-lon
crs. This will imply that all your rasters must be in the same lat-lon
crs.

There is no, yet, on-the-fly projection for raster.

Also note that what you've done was only cosmetic and did not
reproject the vector files to the intended projection. For that you
need to explicitely reproject the vector files using the reproject
option of the vector menu.

Hope this help.
Benoit
