Re: [Qgis-user] Proportional Symbols Bug in 3.2?

2019-03-12 Thread Nicolas Cadieux

Hi,

Not sure, try creating a new field with another format and use the field
calculator to copy the data (this could change the data so please don't
destroy your old fields). I would try with a Int32 or UInt32.

selecting "graduated" and then "size" for the method while also

a bug in version 3.2, or am I doing something incorrectly?
Alternatively, is there another approach creating proportional

I think all in your slides can be done with Qgis right now. But Giovanni
is asking for more, not just proportional size. For one look at the
population example he provides[1] and see how double size doesn't mean
double population.

I want to make clear that I'm not arguing anymore, just pointing out
that this is not really proportional.

Thanks Dr. Kobben for the support :-)
As I told in the trac ticket, that I opened about this, the area
should/could be calculated on the base of a classification as done for
the graduated colors. The criteria can be equal intervals, quantiles,
natural breaks, standard deviation, etc.

take care to do it right then! One important thing to note:
For most symbols (2d symbols like squares and circles, ect) it's NOT 'double

2008-10-27 Thread Goyo
OK I read the ticket and I think I've got the point now. First of all
you'll want to know that the lower size limit is gone in 1.0 but I don't
think you're going to get good looking results with your data anyway.

So you want to tell the sizes for maximum and minimum field values
(whatever they are) and get the size for any value computed by linear
interpolation.

To be honest I don't see this useful enough (in general) as to justify
the additional clutter in UI. On the other hand that's the way colormaps
are handled in rasters, more or less.

Just some thoughts.

it scales the symbol size, not the attribute values. Since your

[Qgis-user] proportional symbols

2008-10-19 Thread G. Allegri
I migrate here a discussion started in a ticket
https://trac.osgeo.org/qgis/ticket/960

I change the question asking the following: how to make proportional
symbols, i.e. with the size based on a certain attribute?
I thought I should use the "Area scale fields" in the Properties
window. It does the work, but it doesn't scale the sttribute values,
so if the they are "big" the symbols overlay each other even covering
the entire screen.

I show two images about this:
Property dialog: http://www.geospatial.it/allegri/property.png
Result: http://www.geospatial.it/allegri/graduated.png
