Hi Paolo, hi all, ...all I can say is that you are not alone, I have that problem too. I can not use GRASS plugin because it kills QGIS with "G_getenv(): Variable GISBASE not set" error.
Running QGIS 1.0.2, standallone installer, on win xp.
