[ql-users] Miracle System Extenderam

2006-10-21 Thread Sergiusz Jarczyk
Hello Group
I've just bought Sinclair QL system with above mentioned card,
unfortunately w/o memory chips. Can anyone tell me what kind of memory
this card accepts (I know 256kbits, but is it 70 or 80ns)?
Also, is there any chance to get Super GoldCard in any reasonable price?

TIA,
Sergiusz

Sorry I can't help with the memory requirements, but there is a very long
list of people waiting on a Super Gold Card !!

Any speed will do I am sure. The QL is not fast (8-)#

Replacing the chips on the QL motherboard is the best bet though - if
you are up to that. No other mods would be needed. If you are handy
with a hot air gun, then chips can be removed one by one and replaced
with sockets in one operation without soldering. You have to know what
you are doing as there is a risk of destroying the motherboard.

Tony,

I thought the advantage of using an external RAM expansion, was that it
was quicker than an external one, also it is only a matter of inserting
the chips into the empty sockets on the expanderam.

True - it is faster (by 30%?), but other expansions (like disk
interfaces) connected to the ram expansion are dodgy mechanically (and
add signal noise).
Best bet is Trump/Gold/Supergold card of course (8-)#
