The English language must have more "dialects" than any other language on earth. Deepest Africa, back-of-beyoud Oz, Southern USA, Brooklyn USA, Canadian Newfie, and of course the Scottish version, etc., etc! One wonders if other languages have similar variations. > Date: Fri, 10 Oct 2014 19:59:56 +0300 > From: p...@iki.fi > To: ql-us...@q-v-d.com > Subject: Re: [Ql-Users] QLis30 attendees > > The funny thing about the accent here is that heard from afar it > sometimes sounds quite a bit like Finnish, but then when you walk > closer it's all garble-garble-garble. Re: [Ql-Users] PC issues
I tried a SMART hard disk checker last night, that also indicated no problem, so at least all the tests done on the hard disk indicate no problems there, and the only events of note in the event lists seem to be the puzzling ones of why the backups have beeb failing at weekends (I'll know to look at that this weekend to try to see what's going on). The fact that the problem suddenyl disappeared yesterday means (since the only thing different was the PC being powered down the night before because of the storm) it must have been something running which normally runs overnight. Unlikely to have been an update since there was no prompt (I set everything that updates if I can not to update automatically without asking me for fear of getting caught out by crapware toolbar installations by Adobe updates etc), so the favourite has to be the anti-virus running most of the day after missing its nightly run. I left the PC on last night, and there's no problem this morning. I'll try the sfc later, since that will require the PC to be restarted to command prompt as it won't run in a cmd box window. Thanks again to everyone who tried to help yesterday!
