Re: [Ql-Users] SMSQmulator 2.28

2020-03-04 Thread Kjartan Geble Olsen via Ql-Users

Hi,

With help from Wolfgang and some googling on my own there are now two
different solutions to this problem.
Wolfgang supplied me with a new smsqmulator which was able to keep up, and
I found
the programming manual to the scanner family on the net which enabled me
to reduce

its typing speed.

Yes.
It's read like an ordinary keyboard, input"Scan item ",a$
This works fine in uqlx and qpc under wine.
I assume that it types too fast for SMSQmulator to keep up.

Kjartan

uQlx makes no attempt to emulate a keyboard. It just directly fills
the QDOS input buffers.
 Graeme

And that's fine - SMSQmulator on the other hand doesn't keep up..

I'm curious, how does uqlx handle multiple keystrokes such as
CTRL+ALT+Shift + left?

Would it be possible to speed up the keyboard handling?
It fails to correctly read a barcode scanner.
Random characters lost on each scan.

On a 3.4Ghz PhenomII, 64bit linux and openJDK 1.6 the emulator starts in
less than two seconds,

your little test finishes in 4 seconds.
The demo version of QPC2 seems to run 5.5 times faster than the emulator.

Running some of the benchmark programs available for the QL, the emulator
comes out as being about 55 times

faster than a regular QL and 5.5 times faster than my SGC.

Hi

I have done some simple speed tests between QPC2 and SMSQmulator.

The system I am running on is a WINdoes XP with service pack 3. On as
2.93GHz Celeron processor with 2G of ram. With NORTON 360 running in the
background, that is my firewall and anti virus program.

From clicking on the SMSQmulator JAVA exe file to displaying the
SMSQmulator
window takes 15 seconds, then loading and running my boot file a further
10 seconds. I am running a screen size of 1024 x 600. Don't know if that
makes any difference.

If I run a simple program as follows:-

100 FOR a=1 TO 1000
110 PRINT a
120 NEXT a

On SMSQmulator it takes 2 min, 42 seconds to run.

On QPC2 the same program runs in 5 seconds

So SMSQmulator is 32.4 times slower than QPC2 on my system.

So for programs like word processors speadsheets etc. Not a real
problem. But programs like games, I would say, not so good. However my
simple program is not representative of running real programs, so they
may well run faster. All you can do is try them as see how you get on. I
just did this out of interest just to see what would happen.

HI,

I've released a new version of SMSQmulator this mornong.

Apart from a small bugfix, this nox implments copying to/from the
clipboard to the Scrap thing.

The manual shows how this can easily be automated via a hotkey.

Have fun

No you didn't get it wrong, that's exactly what I understood.
I just didn't have the figure for the boot time, but inferred that is
was less than 20 mins.

Still, 6 mins an a pi and 20 mins on a 2 Ghz machine?

Strange.

I haven't tested it on my pi yet, but 6 and 20 minutes seems very odd to
me.
Unless I'm doing something wrong, boot time on a 3.4GHz PhenomII is less

The 3 games all load instantly, Xchange in less than 2 seconds and the
individual programs starts immediately.

This is the error message I always get with gcc>3.0:
