On Tue, 13 Mar 2001, Richard Zidlicky waxed lyrical: [snip] Compatibility should be considered yes... but I covered this already :-) please add w3m, links and lynx to your list of browsers. And V, IBrowse and AWeb if you wouldn`t mind ;) A week to code the site, six months to test it :0) -- Anthony W. Prime [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.amiga.com So the world may know...
Re: [ql-users] New QL website in the making
I found the site to run rather slow on my SGI R5K Indy with Netscape 3.01S. The javascript was really slow to run. Personally I will not create a web site with either Java, Javascript, Flash, or other fluff. I prefer plain html. Granted I won't write any e-commerce sites, but too many regular web pages use this fluff stuff to make it look better at the sacrafice of it working well on a number of browsers. I wish I could send a missle the way of each webmaster that says "update to the latest X brower to see our page". Tim Swenson

Yeah exactly. ... and I wish that browsers would come with flashing text (and dynamic gif) filters. I find it quite impossible to examine a site with all the movement. I always have to click 'stop' Whoever does a QL browser please note. This Java applet is by far one of the most stable I've encountered. Works with Netscape 3.x - 6.01 and I.E. 4-6.0 beta The other solution is to completely remove the animation :-) Whatcha think? I had to download Flash yesterday just so that my son could use the Thomas The Tank Engine website. He got so bored waiting for it to download he'd lost interest by the time something useable came up. That's why I only use animated GIFs on my site for animations to keep things ultra simple. Not suggesting you remove the applet or anything (we have to progress at some point), just noting that to get everything to work everyone has to upgrade everything to the latest all singing all dancing software sometimes. -- Dilwyn Jones [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.soft.net.uk/dj/index.html

Like it ! Like the (proposed) site too. BTW : I know it's only a preview but on the downloads pages, I get a 'forbidden' error telling me that .asp extensions are not allowed. Norman. Hi, You can see a preview of how my QL website will look like at www.ql.50megs.com My site's goal is to gather as much hardware and software resources for the ql as possible. Any material for hosting is welcome (Diagrams, schematics, specs, source code, tutorials, OS specific stuff (including Q40/60 Linux)... you name it) I have a pretty good collection myself and it gets bigger day by day. It is my intention to offer documents in as many formats possible which will become available as the website grows. how about something that is readable without javascript? Bye Richard
