Re: [ql-users] QL Hot-removable Compact Flash Adapters - ONE LEFT!!
Yes, there WERE two types - I ran out of the hot-removable ones some time ago, and only had 3 of the standard ones left when you got yours. I only located a few more hot-removable ones a few days ago. At the moment I have one hot-removable one left, and one standard one. cheers, Darren Branagh, Bank of Ireland - Cards And Loans Business, Nassau House, 33/35 Nassau Street, Dublin 2. Ireland. Per Yes I never sold them as hot swappable :-) They are after a fashion if your computer knows about the card you can replace it with the same one Ah yes - that makes sense. ... or presumably any other card of the same size? Qubide certainly needs a device there at bootup. The same also applies to any system (I am sure) where the device is connected as a std IDE device, as this CF adaptor is. I have two hard disks on my QL BBS system. Nasta I know made a cable to connect more than two hard disks (I used it for a while) but I don't think, Nasta, it was reliable was it? It would be great to use my CF on the BBS. Any ideas? Re: [ql-users] QL Hot-removable Compact Flash Adapters - ONE LEFT!!
Thank you all for your help, it's clear for me now. I see now it is an IDE to CF adapter, and I can't use it on my standard QL's. The point is that I have been working in a CF interface for a Z80 compatible microcontroller (Rabbit 2000), and I saw it was extremely easy to implement in the hardware side. The software was not so easy, but anyway I completed all the necessary to access CF memory cards of all sizes in formats FAT12 and FAT16, leaving FAT32 only because it was not necessary. It's all done in C, so easily portable. Later I thought about implementing it on the QL (the standard QL, the only ones I have), maybe it was a nice idea. I haven't done anything on the QL, yet (too few spare time), but if it did exist, I shouldn't do anything about it. Best regards Guillermo Mesquida [EMAIL PROTECTED]

See:- http://www.dokos-gr.net/~phoebus/#CF That are not home made, but will work with the QL. It will work with a PC/QPC. with the Q40/Q60 or on any ordinary QL with QubIDE. cheers, Darren Branagh, Bank of Ireland - Cards And Loans Business, Nassau House, 33/35 Nassau Street, Dublin 2. [EMAIL PROTECTED] g.uk 02/10/2003 17:01 Please respond to ql-users Hi. I'm basically curious. What are the features of the adapter? Any web page explaining? Where does it plug in? Which QL does it need? Who built it, or is it home-made? Which QL does it need? Who built it, or is it home-made? Thanks in advance for your help Hi Guillermo, since I was the one that got these for QLers in the first place let me briefly explain: 1. The CF adaptors are for QL equipped with QubIDE IDE controllers, Amiga QDOS machines and Q40/Q60 QL compatible computers. (Also working with every machine that has a IDE Interface ) 2. It accepts Compact Flash cards (Not CF+ made by Lexar ones on regular QLs/Auroras) of any size that the QubIDE firmware will support 3. It's viewable as a Win drive on any QL. 4. As for which QL needs it... well NO QL NEEDS it... you can chose to get one that's all ;-) Your other option for reliable, transportable storage is (only if you have a real QL or Aurora replacement maiboard -or even a Thor but I am not sure about that) to get the superb RomDisQ from TF Services. The Romdisq is a lot faster than the CF adaptor, however it only works on QLs (not other hardware( and does not come in sizes exceeding 8 megabytes (8 megs btw is more than enough for most booting/software operations) Hope I helped, Phoebus -- Visit the QL-FAQ at: http://www.dokos-gr.net/ql/faq/ (Still uploading stuff!)
