It's just that most QL systems are too slow for something like that. Especially as client/server without good network ability is IMO not very useful. > (Note here: As it stands now, you could possibly get in and change > the standard screen routines -just leave the entry points in place- > with my own and everything should work immediately - but then again, It's not that easy. Yes - there is an SMSQ module that enables the I2C - god I am suffering from directory loss again - can't think of his name. Lives in East London, and has a beard used be with spuddy... urmm, no it is gone. ah yes, David Gilham. Well for one I don't have the sources (yet) but the fact of the matter is that it works... They way I envisioned that Graphics engine it's really a client server environment (as i put it to Jochen, an X for the poor :-) The idea behind it however, will evolve to a meta driver after I strip SMSQ/E bare to leave in only the Scheduler and IO.SSS to add the driver framework I am envisioning. It all looks very good on paper but then again EVERYTHING looks VERY good on paper... even Windows ;-) (Note here: As it stands now, you could possibly get in and change the standard screen routines -just leave the entry points in place- with my own and everything should work immediately - but then again, IMHO the screen driver is not really a screen driver just a block of code that could be patched to ANY software... screen operations (just like any other kind of IO should be governed by a driver framework... For bitmap output devices such as a screen, writing a driver would be as easy as writing a configuration file pretty much) The fact of the matter is that the routines are here and they work :-) My original problem (since this QL Toy I am developing has already a primary use and client: ie. my daughter) has to be ready by Xmas... which means, lets see if it works in principle and I'll worry about the rest later :-) >My next year will be pretty much filled up with work for this project: >http://www.robocup.org/ >Here's a picture of one of our team members I have to help >programming: >http://www.swr2.de/biotopien/expeditionen/roboterfussball/popups/torwart_sepp.html > >I'm expecting much but very interesting work. (Especially after the blades and hammers come out where they pulverise the opponent's bot (which until now are really radio-controlled ones clever as their owners) Phoebus

Thanks for the offer but it's rather premature of course :-) I will buy a Minerva MKII from you to try it and then we can see... :-) (IIRC when SMSQ/E is loaded atop of Minerva, the I2C port continues to function...am I wrong?) Nasta said that an (equivalent of your IBOX) with 68SZ388 (or smaller) is extremely easy to manufacture *maybe even using parts from the Aurora* and that's where we could possibly talk on integrating the mkII and sH directly on the mainboard... After I am done with it (the prototype) and it's working I will try to sell it to a couple of these companies and see what's going on (Maybe Arnould with his contacts could help here?) >It would be up to Lau though, who is the sole representative of the >original design team. >>Since I haven't had an Aurora with a Minerva Rom so far I still don't >>know if the >>extra modes can be invoked like with SMSQ/E (with direct hardware >>access) but I >>am getting there :-) >They can't, but Lau said it was not too difficult to do. I remember buying a tablet mouse in Boston just before a QL show, and actually trying it out for the first time during a talk I was giving at the show. It worked fine. I reckon anything that works through a standard PC serial port (without PC drivers for basic functions) will work on sH mouse port. I went to some trouble to get it to accept std RS232, despite the fact that most mice will work on TTL. >Preliminary specs for the toy: > >SGC / Aurora / RomDisQ or QubIDE/CF card for software updates >Minerva MK II for I2C (see Lego) connectivity I can see no basic problem with letting you use the pcb design on the motherboard.
