[ql-users] Visit to Switzerland

2005-02-06 Thread - Aucun -
Next week I will be in Swtzerland (Schaffhausen) to visit my grandmother who
will be 95 on Tuesday.

Is it possible to organize a mini QL meeting only for me? In fact I would like
to speak with Jon Dent, any day/time between Thursday 10 and Tuesday 15.

It would be great in Sursee. On Saturday if possible, as on Sunday I would
like to see the carnaval in Buesingen (yes, do not ask me why but they do it a
week after all the other ones, down there).
Geneva is too far away, excuses. But you could come to Sursee?

Re: [ql-users] SERNET

2005-02-06 Thread Dilwyn Jones
I thought that this should be the case. As the cable works fine
between PCs with sernet it ought to work fine with the Aurora.
Definitely time to take a longer look at the serial port connectors
and make more of an effort. Did you ever use more than two machines at
a time, were the so-called circular cables easy to make up (in theory
they should be but you never know with serial ports!)

Hi,
I never had any problems with the Auora serial ports, the description
of the
connections is detailed in the manual clearly.

Srnet worked fine with a standard null modem lead available from any
good
electronic store. So there is no need to build a special sernet cable.

I have connected QPC2, QPC1, Q40, Q60, QXL, Atari ST Emulator Extended
4 and
Mode 8, QL with SIMSER running, with sernet and a Null modem lead
bought
from Maplins UK.

The reliable network speeds I had were :
Q40/60 : 112500 Baud
QPC2 : 112500 Baud
QXL : 38400 Baud
Atari ST Mode 8, Extended Mode 4 Emulator : 19200 Baud
QL Trump Card + SIMSER : 9600 Baud
The only failure was with the Superhermes SER3, only because the SER3
is
incompatiable with SMSQ/E STX/SRX. If the source code to SER3 ws
available
then I am sure this could be corrected very easily.

I have been thinking of dissassembling the SER3 code to see if STX/SRX
can
be implemented, as I think Superhemes Sernet would connect at 57600
Baud
very easily. Al that is to be done is to make SER3 SMSQ/E compliant.

That's what I like about the QL scene.
One person goes to see his grandmother. Suddenly it becomes a QL
mini-workshop :-)

Anybody got relatives in North Wales (lonely being one of only 2 known
QLers in North Wales)?

[ql-users] Coursemaster?

2005-02-06 Thread Adrian Graham
Hi all,

I've had a mail from someone called 'ever_hopefull' looking for info:

-
I had a programe for the ql called COURSEMASTER. It was a horse racing
predictor programe.
Anyone know of this, as I have lost my copy and would like to try it again?
-

Has anyone heard of this? I haven't, but that's not saying much :)

Cheers,

They are, in my experience, easy in practise too.

The serial cabling that works is the same that was published with
QuaLsoft file transfer in about 1988.

Ie for SER2, the connecting cable should cross over RX/TX and CTS/RTS
and have a common ground.
The -only- confusion is the misnamed DTR on the QL, but this is not an
issue with Aurora.

To my mind the foolproof solution is to wire a D connector to the Aurora
serial port identical to a PC (bearing in mind not all signals are on
the Aurora of course) and use a standard laplink cable. IDC each end
with ribbon cable gives the correct pinout.
